I've met many.Looks like you've met the right Christians.
Why would people, who claim to be followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, not read the word of God? I don't understand that mentality.

Yes, that's also true. Some read the bible but don't do what is says and remain deceived.
James 1:22
Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
1 John 1:6,7
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
That just means that there is enough in creation for everyone to know that God exists; but that some suppress that truth in unrighteousness (e.g. evolutionists). The revelation in creation is insufficient for anyone to get saved; for that we need God's word, which tells us about sin, guilt, the gospel and salvation (as well as many other things). So difficult to post to the young.
Read Romans 1:18-20 and then come back and report.
18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
What does the above mean?
Neither do I quite frankly.I've met many.

How did persons get saved BEFORE the word of God existed? That just means that there is enough in creation for everyone to know that God exists; but that some suppress that truth in unrighteousness (e.g. evolutionists). Warning New Bibles Coming Out
My hope is anchored in Jesus not the Bible .....so it makes no difference to me if there were a thousand versions.
Imagine if you were blind and born in Lapland 150 years ago, or you were an indigenous African on a slave ship who couldn't speak English. Do we think Jesus has abandoned these folk because of their inability to read or know of the bible.
It behooves us not to become bible worshippers and think we have an advantage.
One point that I often make to KJVO types is to remind them that Jesus didn’t speak the king’s English.Yes, the truth makes you free. Jesus is The Truth. It is to him the scriptures bear witness to.
I happen to think people not using KJV
The problem with the KJV is that the English language has changed. Some words no longer mean what they used to mean.
Some people aren’t into reading. Most people in history knew the Bible from hearing - starting with Jesus, continuing with Catholics, which I understand go through the entire Bible every 3 years in Mass.I've met many.

I would ask further; to what Truth was Jesus bearing witness to?......and what was its manifestation?I actually like this part of the NT better:
John 18:37-38
37Pilate said, “So you are a king?”
Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”
38“What is truth?” Pilate asked.
Pilot was looking at the truth.
