Why would people, who claim to be followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, not read the word of God? I don't understand that mentality.

Some read the bible but don't do what is says and remain deceived.

What does the above mean?

That just means that there is enough in creation for everyone to know that God exists; but that some suppress that truth in unrighteousness (e.g. evolutionists). The revelation in creation is insufficient for anyone to get saved; for that we need God's word, which tells us about sin, guilt, the gospel and salvation (as well as many other things).

Neither do I quite frankly.
I live in a Catholic country.
Catholics do not understand the reason for having to read the bible.

My hope is anchored in Jesus not the Bible .....so it makes no difference to me if there were a thousand versions.

Imagine if you were blind and born in Lapland 150 years ago, or you were an indigenous African on a slave ship who couldn't speak English. Do we think Jesus has abandoned these folk because of their inability to read or know of the bible.

It behooves us not to become bible worshippers and think we have an advantage.

Yes, the truth makes you free. Jesus is The Truth. It is to him the scriptures bear witness to.

One point that I often make to KJVO types is to remind them that Jesus didn’t speak the king’s English.

I happen to think people not using KJV

KJVO is IDOLATRY, one of the most common forms of idolatry in Christendom.

The problem with the KJV is that the English language has changed. Some words no longer mean what they used to mean.

I call this the TO part of the translation. Even if Swahili is the best translation, I don’t speak Swahili. And I don’t speak Middle English!

To your point, I have seen foolish KJVO argue archaic words and phrases from modern perspectives, totally missing the truth Of our beloved, ancient text that God communicated to prophets.

Pilot was looking at the truth.

I would ask further; to what Truth was Jesus bearing witness to?......and what was its manifestation?

Before the word of God existed? The gospel was first preached to Adam and Eve, in Gen. 3:15, who would have passed this down to their descendants.

I can understand it if people can't read, and listen to the word of God instead. That's not what I was talking about.

I also did not make reading the Bible a requirement for salvation; but, it would normally be a result of salvation.

Roman Catholicism has many requirements for salvation that God has not, and will never, require. Not that is idolatry!

The truth is that we can be free of the wiles of satan.
We can live a more fulfilling life by knowing the creator of the universe.
Jesus can set the captive free.
We are no longer slaves to satan but to God, which is true freedom to choose.
If we become more Christ-like, with Jesus as our example...our life will be truly better.
