I am always puzzled at many that make, paintings and draw supposed images of Jesus. The scripture tells us so plainly that we are not to MAKE ANY IMAGE of God whatsoever. They transgress the word.

In every movie that features the stereotypical catholic church there are always the statues, carvings, whatever, of Jesus, Jesus on the cross, Jesus and Mary or St. Whoever. I find myself wanting to march into those places and smash those pagan idols. This are not Holy works. Their hands, contrary to pagan beliefs do not ooze blood. Neither are they approved by God. We were forced by family circumstances for awhile when our son was very young, to put him in a catholic private school. My wife's mother was terminally ill and we had to temporarily cease home schooling so my wife could care for her, take her to the doctor and etc.

I am dismayed when I see Christian named organizations offering pictures or other images of Jesus seeing as how they are treading the commandments of God underfoot.

Exodus 20:4-5 KJVS
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: [5] Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Deuteronomy 16:22 KJVS
Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the Lord thy God hateth.

Deuteronomy 27:15 KJVS
Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the Lord , the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place . And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

2 Kings 10:26 KJVS
And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them.

This girl sells these "Jesus" paintings. You can see their advertisements online. I'm not a believer in her nor a fan of anyone who thinks so lightly of the commandments of God not to make ANY kind of image of Him.

She also paints pictures of Mary. She does not belong to any church and I cannot find anything about her baptism etc. God help her. For me she is one of those "put it on the shelf" people..

I'm naturally suspicious of anyone receiving do many "special revelations".

Rembrandt created over 300 works of art inspired by stories from the Bible. Most of these works are drawings and etchings. In addition, there are some 60 paintings on Biblical themes.

Rembrandt's Biblical Work

I see nothing wrong with Biblical art.
It's not that people "bow down" before it and "worship"
these images like they do in the Roman Catholic Churches.

I am totally with you there Frank! I guess we fall into the " love it or hate it" groups.
..I'm with you, I hate it...it "creeps me out" in fact...I so often see a spiritual force behind it and these types of things.
... my one daughter loves all Akiane's art work..but as she had such amazing artistic "talent" from age 4 ..I have to ask myself , where did that come from..."to me" it is spooky...I get no inner witness...but my daughter gets blessed! ( though we never argue about it :) ) God knows.
Not everything that 'looks' godly is....the enemy does try to trick us in becoming as an angel of light and beauty.

But no life or death issue ( re the thread) :D

As I just said to Frank...we love it or hate it...I hate it.
Pictures also contain the painter/drawers 'image' of what they 'see'...so often it is scripturally wrong...but we are stuck with 'their concept'! Which is so often misleading... :(

But, each to their own. :)

Good art is a gift from God.
That's the way I see it.
I have been following that girl on Facebook a bit and see nothing wrong with it.
People tend to see demons everywhere some times.
When we don't worship these images and see them as art, what can be wrong with it.

Just as Rembrandt, most art by Michelangelo also refers to bible scenes.
(And many more...)
They are all great artists with a God given talent if you ask me.

I think you already said that once in post #7

We are all entitled to our opinion...you obviously enjoy it, as does my daughter...go for it!
And I will continue to feel about it and Who is behind it as I choose to.

And yet here we have a story behind a painting that is spot on..

And this my dad pointed out

It is not by wisdom - The owl,
it is not by cunning - The wolf
it is not by strength - The moose

But by the Spirit - The eagle

Rom_8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Mat_7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

And so the eagle had to show Him teh narrow path through teh thin ice

What saith the word is always a good test. The only real test. It sets aside feelings, emotions, tradition, culture. What is God's word on the subject? His view is the one that counts.

I don't know. I try not to trouble myself with small things. There are way too many important issues to be occupying time with issues that really don't matter that much.

Isn't an idol anything that sets over God in our heart? This could be a multitude of things. Writing can become an idol also. Writers paint with words. Painters with paint and canvas. God is an artist. He IS the Author and Painter of beauty. A disease or illness can also become an idol: until what we testify of is the disease rather than the One that makes free from the disease. I won't comment on actual paintings of Jesus or religious statues; I don't like them but they hold no power to the person that recognizes them as having no life in them.

Psalm 96:5
[5] For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens.

Luke 6:36-37
[36] Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. [37] Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

Paintings was the subject.

John 7:24

Everyone says don't judge! Don't judge! We all have to judge, discern every single day. Some things are not nearly as important as others.

John 7:24 KJVS
Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

Images are neither good or evil. God just says "don't make them".

Romans 14:14 KJVS
I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
