Robots On Forums?

I noticed when viewing members online?

Robot Baidu, Robot Bing, Robot Google?

What's that all about?

I was told they were collecting information for their 'search engines.'

If someone Googles a spiritual subject often a hit comes up from a Christian forum. I've tried it myself, and got a hit back to an old thread on this very site. So maybe it is the people using google search which show up as 'Robot Google.' Could be.

But as long as they are single cylinder two stroke engines....all they do is make noise and are polluting the environment.

ha no, and to all appearances they may not seem to hear them either, but i suggest that this is not really the case

Well GraceI thought your suggestion could be correct,so I put it to the test, I put "Truth" thread in hyphens, as seen below it came up on Google, I entered the page and ran a 15 minute test, Didn't show as a Robot?

I noticed these Robots are searching members "Personal Profiles" also?

2 Members, 11 Guest's, 37 Robots?

But I always say to my husband when we hear creepy stuff. Like - 'our phones are listened in to. And when our TV is on ( or maybe off!) "they" can hear everything we say'...etc etc
I always say...
Well quite honestly if "they" want to creep our Laptops, TV, and phones, our life is so boring they wont find anything very exciting to report!!

PS, I just googled and asked why do forums have robots.
This is what I got. A hit from some Admin on a forum ( not a Christian one)

No worries about robots, they are simply search engines indexing our forum.

It is a good thing that Google and Bing are able to find our content.

Spambots are always trying to target our forum, I have made a sport of it to block them in various ways... Seen any spam lately ? Don't think so..

And that is what I had always heard. The more google and other search engine are on a Forum Site the more popular the hit to that site are when anyone googles a question.
In one way it is free advertising for the owners...
ie, I would guess that when someone googles " Christian Forums" then those Forums that Google and other search engines collect from will be higher up on the page for the searcher.

ha funny to me that you mention that; you are def getting profiled too, but is that necessarily such a bad thing?

We have this thing about "privacy" and possibly "rights" going on here that profiling has somehow got mixed up in, that i gotta tell ya the rest of the world kinda laughs at tbh. When you land @ Ben Gurion, if you are not a citizen of Israel anyway, the first thing you do is get profiled, and they aren't even shy about it.

so i dunno if profiling to us has become conflated with prejudice? As the two share many components...but i post bc profiling also affords one many conveniences. I kind of see parallels with our notions of Personal Space too, which the rest of the world does not share. So not really judging either as good or bad here, so much as pointing out how we can easily misconstrue--essentially misdefine--a term like "profiling," when we prolly really mean prejudice?
