Mary, sometimes I've gotten the impression that you're copying BOL's way of interacting with people on this forum. It's really not the best way to relate to people, IMO. One thing to consider is that some of us are quite a bit older than you (I'm guessing). Showing some respect to people who are older is not a bad idea.
Thank you PW.

I will admit when I said to @amadeus "I thought you were joking" and "as you seem to believe" in hindsight it does seem condescending. For that I apologize to him if he took it that way. I sincerely, at the time, thought he was just saying that as a joke (that God talked directly to him). It seems to me you are suggesting that he was serious. If God talked directly to Amadeus and gave him that interpretation then that means God didn't talk to Ignatius and Justin Martyr because their interpretation was COMPLETLY DIFFERENT!

My point and disagreement with him still holds: If........God told you that is how that portion of scripture should be interpreted and he told other men (Ignatius and Justin Martyr to name a FEW) something different 2,000 years ago why should I believe Amadeaus over those men?

So please do tell me PW.....
Why should I accept @amadeus interpretation/teaching over other men's teaching who lived in the times of the Apostles? Why is it wrong to ask Amadeus that question and challenge him when his interpretation is OPPOSITE of 2,000 years of teaching? Are you suggesting that age equals wisdom?

Mary

Please, PLEASE don't take my words as harsh. I am a direct person who ask's direct questions and I like direct answers. I mean no harm.

Mary has it in for me.
Mary is nice, leave her alone.
She spends too much time protecting her faith,,,this should not be necessary.
I don't know two Protestants chuches that have the same beliefs.
I'm beginning to see that we're all wrong.
Maybe the only truth is how our faith changes us.
If it doesn't, what good is anything we believe?

You should NOT believe me over other men. Both of us should believe God. Are we not His sheep?
You are the one who said that God told you that (gave you that interpretation) .....So in effect are you not telling me to believe YOU???

Is this your interpretation of Scripture? Or are you repeating what someone else wrote?

Curious Mary
I know others that believe scripture is the flesh of Christ.
I wonder if some church teaches this.....
I'd ask @amadeus but he already stated God told him...

Most Protestant churches agree on basic Bible doctrine. We vary in our beliefs on more peripheral issues. Many groups have splintered from the Catholic Church over the years....

Don't get discouraged. Jesus said, “If you continue in My word, you really are My disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32) So, we can know His truth!

I agree that all are due respect, but evidently, you haven't experienced Mary's goading and condescension. Just look at the post after this one and the post before yours....

1 Timothy 5:1-2--"Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and with all propriety, the younger women as sisters."
I should take into consideration that you and others don't know me personally and don't know my personality. You call it goading, I call it a poke in the eye or just having fun. If I have left you with the impression I am condescending I apologize for that impression. I will leave out any remarks that may seem condescending.

Scripture tells us that false preachers/teachers will come amongst us and that men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Please tell me what I am to do with an older Christian that I believe is one of those false teachers/teachers or I read a false doctrine/interpretation of scripture that they have written? Since they are older than me I can't call them out? If they preach that gay marriage is acceptable to God and they are older than me I am to keep my mouth shut?

Please give me some guidance.

Respectfully, Mary

Treat them how you want to be treated. You can never go wrong with the "Golden Rule."

Luke 6:31-36--
And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.
As I've read this, I've been convicted by the Holy Spirit that I need to do better at this!

Mary, Mary, where are you going to?
You partake of communion only if you are baptized in the catholic church, even if it was a sprinkle of water on the forehead as an infant.
And a person down here in Florida wanted to join a catholic church and become catholic and they told him he needed $250.00 to join.
Where have all the flowers gone

But this is the point!
Catholics are allowed to have their own doctrine and dogma.
We may not agree with it, but they're allowed, they have scripture to back up what they believe...
I don't agree with the scripture they use for purgatory,
And indulgences are a man-made idea...other than this they do have solid theology and we all believe in the basics.

I see her fighting too much instead of being able to fellowship and DISCUSS our differences.
Discussion should be possible.

I agree. There's too much arguing and not enough discussing. The Holy Spirit has been convicting me that I've been to argumentative at times.

Catholics (as individuals) are not allowed to have their own doctrine. To become a Catholic, they have to agree with the Catechism.

250. To join?
Are you sure? This is not normal.

This is funny!
First of all, most Catholics have no idea what's in the Bible or the catechism.
And I don't know any Catholic that agrees with all their doctrine. They're Supposed to, and there's an official procedure if they don't, but no attention is paid to it.

Oh PW....I thought you were more knowledgeable than that about things such as these.

Please provide your proof that "to become a Catholic, they have to agree with the Catechism".

Edit: This is the one I was looking for. I had read it the other day. (from Catholic.com)

The Christian fully enters the Church by profession of faith and formal reception. For the profession of faith, the candidate says, "I believe and profess all that the holy Catholic Church believes, teaches, and proclaims to be revealed by God."

Perhaps you could explain this: (from Catholic.com)

The purpose of the catechumenate is to provide the candidates with a thorough background in Christian teaching. "A thoroughly comprehensive catechesis on the truths of Catholic doctrine and moral life, aided by approved catechetical texts, is to be provided during the period of the catechumenate" (National Conference of Bishops, National Statutes for the Catechumenate [NSC], 1986).
Easy. The above is for special programs for Adults that want to join the Catholic Church.
RCIA Rite of Catholic Initiation for Adults. It lasts a year and goes through all the dogma and theology.
At the end the adult is baptized and confirmed and makes their first holy Communion.

As you can imagine, most Catholics are born into Catholicism,,,I'd venture to say 90%?

And no, no apology is needed. Thank you for the consideration.

I added this to that post: (from Catholic.com)

This certainly includes the Catechism.
