I guess the point is that in Acts and from Matthew 28 onwards it's about the Gospel going to Jew and Gentile alike, into all the world.
Yes but the gentile outpouring of the Spirit happened about 7 years after the Jewish outpouring.

The Holy Spirit is Jesus Christ (his Spirit) in us because the Holy Spirit is the Lord Jesus himself, glorified with his OWN SELF, (John 17:5). and this is the glory in us, because of him.

as for baptism, not saying any is right or wrong, but consider this.
the baptism "OF" the Holy Spirit and the Baptism "WITH" the Holy Spirit is not the SAME.

lets understand. the Baptism "of" the Holy Spirit is to place us into the body of Christ, we become one with Christ, meaning his Spirit, hence "BORN AGAIN", or "Born of the incorruptible seed.

the Baptism "with" the Holy Spirit is to enpower/fill the believer to do the work in which one is called to do.

it's like "Works and Salvation", Paul salvation without works vs James Salvation in Works.
one is not save because of works, (Paul). one work because they are saved (James).

it's like a Job. one cannot just walk up on a job and start to work, and expect to get paid at the end of the week. no, it don't work like that, nor in the spirit world. one must first be hired (save) to work, and equipped, in order to get paid at the end of the week.

third as to the out pouring of the Spirit on Jews and gentiles. one flesh have nothing to do with the the Spirit coming upon you. example, there was a point when the disciple came to Jesus and said,
Luke 9:49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
Luke 9:50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

and this man, whosoever he was, did not cast out devils by his own power. even the chosen of the Lord Jesus at one point couldn't cast out a devil. God is no respecter of Persons.

and just a thought here, because the Holy Spirit was poured out "First" on Jews on "Pentecost" means nothing, because, read Mathews 19:29 & 30.

Not really. Jesus is distinct from the Holy Spirit throughout Scripture. Otherwise how could He "send" the Comforter after His departure to Heaven?

This would be baptism BY the Spirit. See 1 Cor 12:12,13.

Actually it is VERY SIGNIFICANT. Believing Israel (the believing remnant) is called "the good olive tree" into which the Gentiles (branches from "the wild olive tree") are grafted. Study Romans 9-11.

Also, there was a very specific order given by Christ in which the Gospel was to be preached after Pentecost:
1. Jerusalem (first Jews)
2. Judea (first Jews)
3. Samaria (those closely related to the Jews)
4. The uttermost parts of the earth (first Jews throughout the Roman empire, then Gentiles). This is where Mt 19:29,30 comes in.

Some years ago I was talking to a friend of mine one day about the grace of God.
This friend pastored a small church where we lived and it was a successful church.
We had discussed the things of God on a few occasions.
This particular day we had an in-depth chat. The grace of God being the main subject.
We went back and forth about the things we understood about the grace of God.
We looked at God literally birthing his own children and them being everything God had planned before the foundation of the world, Ephesians 1:4

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

I went on to say I believe this is the ultimate of God's grace of how he takes a believing sinner and places apart of himself (which is Christ) in them.
My friends first thought was; wow that is some food for thought.
As we began to get in deeper in our conversation something happened to my friend.
I could see it on his face, he said do you know what would happen if I preached that type of completion, the people would feel like they do not need the church, me or anything else.
I was kind of taken back a little at his response, but I did think to my self how deceived we can be about the grace of God.
When people fall in love with God and the Christ in them you cannot keep them from fellowship and loving each other.
My personal experience is people will do more out of love than they will ever do out of a law relationship.
Feeling they must always do to be, we are be-ers by the grace of God placed in us the moment we believed.
Religion has hid this truth from the people of God simply because they do not know it.
The powerful truth Jesus spoke about the HolySpirit being poured out on the day of Penecost, John 14:20

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

You should study John chapter's 14-15-and 16. Jesus tells us exactly what the HolySpirit will do when he comes.

The power is, the HolySpirit was to be poured out on that day so humanity could know something.
They could come to know the Christ in them.
You should be leery of the church's and school's that have the HolySpirit doing everything accept for what Jesus said he would do.
Jesus said he would lead you and guide you into all truth, bring Christ in you to the forefront in your understanding.
He teaches Christ, but not just any Christ, he teaches you the Christ in you the hope of glory.
We have the HolySpirit coming to this earth with the emphasis on speaking in tongues.
Some teach when he comes on you you will have great power to do what God needs you to do.
Some say you can't stay saved without the HolySpirit giving you the strength.
I believe in the power of the HolySpirit, but the power is when you see Christ as everything to you. He is your salvation, salvation is a person.
He is your life and the only true peace you will ever have.
God's emphasis is always Christ in you, do not be deceived by the many voices. Thank God for his word to be a lamp unto our feet and a light for our path.
'And I will pray the Father,
.. and He shall give you another Comforter,
.... that He may abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of truth;
.. whom the world cannot receive,
.... because it seeth Him not,
...... neither knoweth Him:
but ye know him;
.. for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
I will not leave you comfortless:
I will come to you.
.. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more;
.... but ye see me:
...... because I live, ye shall live also.'

(Joh 14:16-19)

Praise His Holy Name!

Hello @soul man,

Thank you for your OP. The reason the Lord gave the promise to His disciples concerning the coming of the Holy Spirit, is because He was going away, wasn't it? He would no longer then be physically amongst them: and He wanted them to be untroubled by the absence of His bodily presence. Praise God!

* What would the Holy Spirit do?
* For the disciples themselves:-

'And I will pray the Father,
.. and He shall give you another Comforter,
.... that He may abide with you for ever;
...... Even
the Spirit of truth;
Whom the world cannot receive,
.. because it seeth Him not,
.... neither knoweth Him:
but ye know Him;
.. for He dwelleth with you,
.... and shall be in you.'

(Joh 14:16-17)

'But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost,
Whom the Father will send in My name,
.. He shall teach you all things,
.... and bring all things to your remembrance,
...... whatsoever I have said unto you.'

(Joh 14:26)

Praise God!

* What would the Holy Spirit do?
* For the world at large:-

'... Nevertheless I tell you the truth;
It is expedient for you that I go away:
.. for if I go not away,
.... the Comforter will not come unto you;
..... but if I depart,
....... I will send Him unto you.
And when He is come,
.. He will reprove the world -
of sin,
....
and - of righteousness,
...... and -
of judgment
Of sin, - because they believe not on me;
Of righteousness, - because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
Of judgment, - because the prince of this world is judged. ... "'

(John 16:7-11)

Praise God!

* This is what He is doing still.

In Christ Jesus
Chris

Not really. Jesus is distinct from the Holy Spirit throughout Scripture. Otherwise how could He "send" the Comforter after His departure to Heaven?
First, thanks for the reply.
Second, Not Really? it seem that you're not sure. but that's not hard to do for God, but here is the reason. while in the flesh he, The Lord Jesus, could not dwell in us. but what he did, sent his, his, Spirit, notice the "S" in Spirit is capitalized, for John 4:24(a) states "God is a Spirit". he sent his Spirit to comfort us in Spirit. not that he's distinct? nobut as High Priest he has a function to do. as well as "COMFORTER".

understand Enoch111, the Lord Jesus is Comforter, meaning he is the Holy Spirit. scripture,
1John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

this word "advocate" here is the Greek word,
G3875 παράκλητος parakletos (pa-ra'-klee-tos) n.
1. (properly) one called near (to give help).
2. an intercessor (one who entreats of behalf of another).
3. a comforter.
[(not given)]
KJV: advocate, comforter

notice definition #3. a Comforter. now scripture,
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

who is the "I" here? the Lord Jesus, and when did he come? answer on the day of Pentecost. how do we know this, scripture,
John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
next verse, Judas asked the most important question in the Bible, concering the Godhead listen.
John 14:22 "Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?"

so the question, how is the Lord Jesus is going to "MANIFEST" himself to them, and not the world? remember, he said that he's coming to them in verse 18 above, but the world will not see it. the answer,
Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

now who Spirit was poured out on Pentecost? the apostle Peter said that it was...
Acts 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
Acts 2:18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

ok, that's God right, Peter,quoting from Joel 2:28 & 29 ...... but let's contuine and see who Spirit was poured out this Day.
Acts 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

shed here is POUR, it's the greek word,
G1632 ἐκχέω ekcheo (ek-che'-ō) v.
ἐκχύνω ekchuno (ek-chï '-nō) [by variation]
1. to pour forth.
2. (figuratively) to bestow.
[from G1537 and cheo “to pour”]
KJV: gush (pour) out, run greedily (out), shed (abroad, forth), spill

Now, let's put it all together, if you haven't already. God is a Spirit, (John 4:24a), the Comforter is the Holy Spirit, (John 14:16-18) and Jesus is the "advocate" (1 John2:1) which is another name for "Comforter"

conclusion: God is the Spirit, who is the Comforter, who is Jesus, the Lord.

I suggest you re-read this section of the post. for there is more meat here.

To all who follow this thread.

a quick way to know and understand who the Lord Jesus is as the Holy Spirit, just read the letters to the 7 churches in revelation.

each Letter is addressed by the Lord Jesus himself. but notice how each letter ends, "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches".

but was it not the Lord Jesus himself who was addressing the churches?

feed back? ... any?

I could see it on his face, he said do you know what would happen if I preached that type of completion, the people would feel like they do not need the church, me or anything else.

I can see his perspective on that thought.
I would say, SOME people "GO" to Church...
FOR many individual reasons....
(From desiring to hear, to hoping to find understanding, to being made to go by their parents, to someone looking for a spouse, to some people looking for "business" contacts, to meeting like believing people, making friends, for the "entertainment", for the festivities, for the "fellowship" of together praising the Lord, etc. etc.)

If one is going to get a QUICK FIX on receiving Salvation....it is highly possible, they may be short lived on Church Attendance.

Me personally, I do not attend a Church. It is precisely the "all the extras" (beyond praising of the Lord,) that I do not care for, along with the Minimial focus on a "couple of Scriptures", for an hour or two a week.

My preference is reading and study for hours per day and fellowshipping with the Lord privately and with whomever I might see on any given day, friend or stranger.

Feeling they must always do to be, we are be-ers by the grace of God placed in us the moment we believed.

I would agree with that.

As well, I would say a Person CAN NOT have Faith without the Power of the Holy Spirit,
Nor CAN a person Love their enemies, without the Power of the Holy Spirit.

If there is one precaution, I would simply say that the direct statement of "Jesus is the Holy Spirit" may come off to people as a little cultish on the surface, in that such a statement could be used to teach that He never actually came in the flesh. But your exegesis is solid, yes.

First thanks for the response. this is a good teaching topic on the Holy Spirit.

second, yes, Jesus the Holy Spirit came in flesh, hence the term "ANOTHER" comforter.

supportive Scripture,
Luke 2:25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

see that term "Consolation". it's the Greek word,
G3874 παράκλησις paraklesis (pa-ra'-klee-sis) n.
1. an imploration, entreaty (urgent request (for mercy or help)).
2. an exhortation (urgent counsel, encouragement, or caution).
3. a comfort, solace.
[from G3870]
KJV: comfort, consolation, exhortation, intreaty
Root(s): G3870

one who gives help is a "HELPER",
one who gives counsel, is a "Counsellor"
one who gives comfort, is a "Comforter"

there he is, the The "Holy Ghost" in flesh. that's why the Lord Jesus said, "ANOTHER" comforter is given. and "ANOTHER" here is the term I been using all along, G243 Allos, God without flesh.

see, the Spirit "with" Flesh is the, "Consolation" of Israel in a body. and the same Spirit "without" flesh is the "Consolation" of Israel without a body. other words, the first time the Comforter came, he was seen. but when he came on Pentecost he was not seen, without a body, unseen.

supportive scripture,
John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

so how did the Lord Jesus "MANIFEST" himself to his disciples. answer in the Spiritual gifts. one was manifested in speaking in tongues.
Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

this speaking in tongue is a MANIFESTATION of the Lord Jesus who is the Holy Spirit. remember what Judas asked,
John 14:22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
this manifestation was not seen by the world but by his disciple. supportive scripture,
1Cor 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
there is the "MANIFESTATION" Judas asked about, and one of these MANIFESTATION is speaking in tongues, as was on the day of Pentecost, listen verse,
1Cor 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

ther is that "Manifestation" judas asked about and was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost.

conclusion: YES, the Lord Jesus as the Holy Spirit came in "ANOTHER" form, FLESH. and in John 14:16-18 he clearly sates that he will return in another form, "without" flesh. Spirit.

(Joh 4:23-24)

Hello @101G,

God is Spirit, (not 'a' spirit), but Spirit: in contrast to 'Flesh' or Material Substance; It is what God is - He is Spirit. When the Lord Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens, He ascended to God's right hand. That is where He is now, in a spiritual body: which comprises of flesh and bone; He is our Advocate with the Father (1 John 2:1).

'But they ( the disciples) were terrified and affrighted,
.. and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
And He said unto them,
.. "Why are ye troubled?
.... and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
Behold my hands and My feet,
.. that it is I Myself:
.... handle Me, and see;
...... for a spirit hath not flesh and bones,
........ as ye see Me have.
And when He had thus spoken,
.. He shewed them His hands and His feet.'

(Luk 24:37-40)

* The fact that the Lord Jesus Christ is called our 'Advocate' (also translated - Comforter) does not mean that He is the Holy Spirit.
(John 14:16; John 14:26; John 15:26; John 16:7).

'And I will pray the Father,
.. and He shall give you another Comforter,
.... that He may abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of truth;
.. whom the world cannot receive,
.... because it seeth Him not,
...... neither knoweth Him:
but ye know Him;
.. for He dwelleth with you,
.... and shall be in you.'

(Joh 14:16-17)

* The Lord Jesus Christ did not come on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came: He was sent by the Father in Jesus Name (John 14:26) in answer to the prayer of Christ Jesus the risen Lord (John 14:16). He is spoken of as, 'another Comforter', the Lord Jesus Christ being a Comforter (or Advocate) now, at God's right hand. It was He Who poured out the Holy Spirit upon the disciples at Pentecost, for God had given to Him the Holy Ghost (as promised)

* God uses the definitions of Father, of Son, and of Holy Spirit, for a reason.

'But the hour cometh, and now is,
when the true worshippers
shall worship the Father
in spirit and in truth:
for the Father seeketh such to worship Him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him
must worship Him in spirit and in truth.'

Behold my hands and My feet,
.. that it is I Myself:
.... handle Me, and see;
...... for a spirit hath not flesh and bones,
........ as ye see Me have.
And when He had thus spoken,
.. He shewed them His hands and His feet.'

First thanks for the reply, just saw this post.
God is a "Spirit" in contrast to spirit. but please not God is "a" Spirit. "a" indicate a single "Spirit.
but please note, the Lord Jesus has this desigination. example,
Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

here the apostle uses the the term "Spirit of Christ". remember God is "A", "A", "A" Spirit. as well as it is used with the definite article in,
Heb 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

then you said,
The Lord Jesus Christ did not come on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came: He was sent by the Father in Jesus Name (John 14:26) in answer to the prayer of Christ Jesus the risen Lord (John 14:16). He is spoken of as, 'another Comforter', the Lord Jesus Christ being a Comforter (or Advocate) now, at God's right hand.
Not saying that you're right or wrong, but consider this. who came and is now dwelling in us? let the bible speak.
John 14:22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
STOP, "WE?" will come? who is the we? the Father and the Son. but is not the Father sending the Holy Spirit? so why is the Father dwelling in us? ........ see it now. READ JOHN 14:23 AGAIN.

now the icing on the cake. the Father will send the Holy Spirit... Right. question, can the Lord Jesus lie?, of course not, but listen,
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

now this,
John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

ok charity, from reading John 14:26, and John 15:26, who sent the "Comforter" the HOLY SPIRIT?

Hello @101G,

The answer to your question is clear from this verse, and I have no problem with that.

I thank you for your reply 101G. I will say no more now, but I send you my very best wishes, and love in Christ Jesus.

Chris
