Ever thought about anyone you wish you hadn't been quite so ugly to? Maybe on the forums, maybe in your family, or maybe in your work environment? Maybe a long-time friend you had a falling out with?

I think about this from time to time and it convicts me. James said to let endurance have its perfect work and be slow to speak and slow to anger, but like many - maybe more than most - I have broken these commandments.

So confession time. I don't suppose everyone will have the guts to admit they wish they hadn't been quite so ugly to people, especially people on this forum if they are still active here, but I think I'll just voice my own regrets as an example...

- TheHolyBookEnds: Whatever it was, THBE used to just bring out the worst in me. But I wish now I hadn't been so mean. I suppose if he showed up again I'd have a test on my hands again, but it has never set well with me that I tried to bite his head off a few times, and reacted too resentfully to certain things he did and said.

- Stranger: My first trial after becoming a member here. Went 15 rounds with him over the question of if having the ability to interpret dreams was actually a spiritual gift or not (as if it mattered, LoL).

- Phoneman: A few times, and I don't even remember what either was about. I just know I was too callous and too judgmental, and should have conducted myself better.

- Dave L: Almost like an Achilles heel to me, LoL. Had to learn a new brand of patience with Dave, and am still needing to perfect it. But not happy about going postal on him... several times I think.

- H. Richard: Had a near miss with him just yesterday, but wisely chose to go back and change my post.

There are a couple at other forums I won't go into here, and God forbid I should have to go into any detail on how I've treated my wife on occasion. But scripture says to confess our sins to one another so I figured I would act on impulse and post this publicly.

Note: To anyone who responds, posts need to be written in the spirit of confession. If you still hold resentments towards someone, please don't use this thread merely as an opportunity to criticize. I will police this thread.

This thread should get some response if we're being honest with each other. But for all I know it may not, LoL. Not easy admitting when you've been wrong.

Blessings in Christ,

There are plenty of people I wish I could have taken back what was said, (not the theology part though) but the important thing is I don't hold a personal grudge.

Good post. I don't recall regretting anything I've taught either...

On the grudge end of things, I'm the type who goes on people's track records. This can make it seem like I am holding grudges, and I do have to be careful that it doesn't end up being one. But in reality I am very quick to forgive if the person gives me an open door and is genuine about it. It's only if I am expecting to have doors slammed in my face that I will avoid them, and I usually notify the other person that there may not be much further communication until the situation changes, because I'm not one to make the same mistake twice.

I wouldn't necessarily be expecting absolutions... at least not right away, LoL.
Are you suggesting you would first have to construct a confessional and then get your priestly robes in order?:)

I agree with the basic premise of your post. We need to be careful that we do not attack the person but only his views. At the same time, trolls need a sharp rebuke, and so do people who persist in promoting error even after they have been shown the truth.

I think we all inwardly have stepped over the line a few times, on forums, as in real life. But it’s the registration inwardly of us having stepped over the line that is of importance and value. For it is, as I’m sure you know, the Spirit’s quickening that causes the registration, and, if listened to, then growth. For growth is the end game, and as long as growth happens, all is moving forward towards Christ.

Blessings,

Much love in Christ, Not me

I think I agree with you, if by "registration" you actually mean resignation : )

Spell correct rearing its ugly head again?

No I mean registration, for it’s the Spirit’s quickening and a listening to His quickening, that I mean when I use the word registration.

Resignation is what we do after we get and listen to the registration of the Spirit in us.

(At least in my understanding and terminology.)

Yes and most trolls seem to take a thread off the topic at hand and on to personal issues. Next thing we know we are debating personalities rather than the issues.

I am not a Reed shaking in the wind. But when I am wrong, I admit it, though it may take me a couple of days.

I was pretty rude to a fellow member of this board a few months ago. It haunted me for days until I apologized. I am thankful he accepted it.

Ok. That's a new one for me. Never heard the word used like that before.

Pray I haven't offended anyone here. If so I'm deeply sorry. I try to be firm but gentle, not always the case in my life. It's part of the reason I don't debate.. some great topics in there, but generally I read them not logged in. I can't discern trolls between someone who actually needs help.

To all democrats here, I'm sorry that my posts seem rabid..there were only a few, but it only takes one post to hurt someone.

Confession for off forum would take a book.:(

No worries, I’ve learned over the years that a lot of misunderstandings are just terminology problems. As Christians we are learning spiritual truths and are using human or earthy words to describe what we are inwardly learning. As I’m sure you know the scripture that says the carnal mind can not understand spiritual things. So learning other people’s descriptions of what’s happening inward can be most fun and a learning and growing experience. For talking to someone else who has and is having Christ formed in them is what fellowship is.

Blessings for the fellowship,
