The Two Babylons
or The Papal Worship Proved to be the Worship of Nimrod and His Wife
By the Late Rev. Alexander Hislop
First published as a pamphlet in 1853--greatly expanded in 1858

This is what I started reading a few days ago. @bbyrd009 have you read this? It's interesting, some will find it disagreeable, but Cain's history was not recorded. If, he is son of the evil one, they are still here.
I was looking up Sargon the Magnificent.

If anyone has read this... how to reconcile yourself?

I have a copy and it is a well researched book which exposes the tremendous pagan influence on the Catholic Church as seen in their doctrines and practices. No one can deny that the title of Pontifex Maximus (the Supreme Pontiff) for the pope is the very same title that was given to the chief pagan priest in Rome and was taken over by the pontiff. And this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Hislop traces all pagan idolatrous religions worldwide to Babel and Nimrod and there is no denying that they are all connected, especially with the worship of the Mother and Child, as well as Serpent or Snake worship. The Bible condemned the worship of the Queen of Heaven, but lo and behold the Catholic Church calls Mary Queen of Heaven and there are images of her seated on a throne alongside God the Father and Christ in some of the cathedrals, and being worshipped.

And lest someone come along and claim that Hislop has been debunked, the scholarly and well-respected History of the Christian Church by Philip Schaff confirms what Hislop discovered.

google books could supply some relevant quotes, if you can recall any snips from the book. Might be interesting. But really this seems more like a discussion you might have with a Catholic than a Christian, to me? But i will say in passing that i have spoken with more than one RCC "priest" about similar matters, and i was quite struck by how the subject does not seem to be like verboten or anything among them, like one might imagine.

point being that i guess RCC priests are pretty much just like any other nation, you find all kinds, and despite my misgivings about Catholicism there are some very thoughtful RCC priests. And something i notice about Catholics in general, esp compared to Prots, is they tend to be way ahead of us in the forgiveness dept, at least many of them. The bald departures from Scripture and the changing Scripture literally i dont fathom at all, but apparently somehow the RCC serves Abba or it would cease to exist i guess. Virtually all of my friends are lapsed Catholics, too, and both of my major employers, not sure how that came about either lol

When I found this I thought I clicked on The Two Babylons / The Babylon of the O.T. - The Babylon of the N.T.

Not much in the first part bothered me, but as it went on. The fact the native indians beliefs were so close to things I was taught always intrigued me. Now it saddens me. It seems the evil one imitated, mocked and hoodwinked all of ancient man. Before our Savoir was even here, baptism of water, baptism of fire. Even before the Catholic church.

I guess, I'm upset that RCC put the bible together. I feel a slippery slope. My first marriage (I'm a fallen woman), was to a Catholic. 3 years of not finding Jesus at church was very unnerving. At times I was terrified, my ex would say, afraid you might learn something?.. my reply was, you don't worship God and I'm not doing this.

@Enoch111 there is no discussing this with a RC. You know that. Lol Maybe the worst of it is, they would never search why the "church" does the things they do. It's just what they are taught to do. Anywhere, this forum as an example, the subject comes up it's just an argument. :(
I'm going to check out the book you spoke
of, I'm only half thru this.. and even though I don't like what I'm learning, I must watch my step.

Good simply to feed on God's precious Word directly, without any ecclesiastical intermediary. The Spirit of God helps and guides us to see the Lord Jesus and His work at the Cross in Scripture, in all their wonder.

PS: The New Testament dates from Apostolic times; no popes had anything to do with it.

Correct. This can only be understood and discerned by those outside the Catholic Church who have been born of the Spirit and discern spiritual things.

Another eye-opener is a book by a former Catholic priest from Quebec -- Charles Chiniquy. He wrote Fifty Years in the Church of Rome and his expose is horrifying. Fifty Years in the Church of Rome, by Charles Chiniquy

"I was ordained a priest of Rome in the Cathedral of Quebec, on the 21st of September, 1833, by the Right Reverend Signaie, first Archbishop of Canada. No words can express the solemnity of my thoughts, the superhuman nature of my aspirations, when the delegate of the Pope, imposing his hands on my head, gave me the power of converting a real wafer into the real substantial body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ! The bright illusion of Eve, as the deceiver told her "Ye shall be as gods," was child's play compared with what I felt when, assured by the infallible voice of my Church that I was not only on equal terms with my Saviour and God, but I was in reality above Him! and that hereafter I would not only command, but create Him!!...

What has the Church of Rome done by giving up the words of Christ, "Do this in remembrance of Me," and substituting her dogma of Transubstantiation? She has brought the world back to the old heathenism. The priest of Rome worships a Saviour called Christ. Yes; but that Christ is not the Christ of the gospel. It is a false and newly-invented Christ whom the Popes have smuggled from the Pantheon of Rome, and sacrilegiously called by the adorable name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ....

It just goes to show that, whether or not Hislop is absolutely correct in every detail, there is a deep need to get to grips with what the Bible really teaches in so many areas of doctrine, right?

How can anyone break through that type of teaching? How could you, I or anyone but the HS get through?

Right. The history of the bible as compared to actual archeology has been something always of interest. The dating of some things, well doesn't matter much to me, the fact that every year more and more is discovered (imagine what they know but don't tell us), just reinforces the bible.

I love Anne Steele' words:

"'O may these hallowed pages be
My ever dear delight!
And still new beauties may I see,
And still increasing light!"

You should be aware that bbyrd009 is a saboteur who calls Christianity "Mithraism", and mocks everything in the Gospel. There would be no point in enlightening him any further.

Well, I wondered if this was what changed his feelings towards Christianity. It has me running to Jesus/Yeshua. But it did make me worry about my bible.

It's almost too much to accept.

I think rather that what our friend, @bbyrd009 does with his thoughts or questions is to probe or stir up the practices and beliefs of people who have stopped seeking the correct first things firsts... if they ever did. Many do not know where to begin seeking because they never learned or they have taken on bad habits, which block God.

What @bbyrd009 does not do is simply follow without the question the teachings of men even those which they say are Bible based. Neither does he insist that he has the absolute answers which so many seem to believe they have. As we read and study and research and pray let us always return to the first things according to Jesus.

The place to start and to continue is here: "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matt 6:33

From there let God do the adding. We just keep on seeking those two things.

We do need to seek Christ being paramount in the interpretations that we may think we discern.

I will stand with the verse I cited. The questions we may ask are what is His Kingdom and what is His righteousness. The answer He does have for us:

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:" Matt 7:7

But, don't ask amiss!

"Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts." James 4:3
