We were thinking yesterday about Psalm 60.4:

"Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah."

'Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
.. nor standeth in the way of sinners,
.... nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD;
.. and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
.. that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
.... his leaf also shall not wither;
...... and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so:
.. but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
.. nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous:
but the way of the ungodly shall perish.'

(Psalm 1:1)

The Psalms begin of course at Psalm 1...and immediately there is much food for thought and challenge.

Psalm 22
My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning. O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I have no rest.

Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel. In You our fathers trusted; They trusted and You delivered them. To You they cried out and were delivered; In You they trusted and were not disappointed.

But I am a worm and not a man, A reproach of men and despised by the people. All who see me sneer at me; They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying, "Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him."

Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb; You made me trust when upon my mother's breasts. Upon You I was cast from birth; You have been my God from my mother's womb.

Be not far from me, for trouble is near; For there is none to help. Many bulls have surrounded me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me. They open wide their mouth at me, As a ravening and a roaring lion. I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And You lay me in the dust of death. For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me; They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots.

But You, O LORD, be not far off; O You my help, hasten to my assistance. Deliver my soul from the sword, My only life from the power of the dog. Save me from the lion's mouth; From the horns of the wild oxen You answer me. I will tell of Your name to my brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You. You who fear the LORD, praise Him; All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And stand in awe of Him, all you descendants of Israel.

For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard.

From You comes my praise in the great assembly; I shall pay my vows before those who fear Him. The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the LORD. Let your heart live forever! All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations will worship before You. For the kingdom is the LORD'S And He rules over the nations. All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship, All those who go down to the dust will bow before Him, Even he who cannot keep his soul alive. Posterity will serve Him; It will be told of the Lord to the coming generation. They will come and will declare His righteousness To a people who will be born, that He has performed it.

Solemn, wonderful Messianic Psalm centring on the coming Redeemer and His sufferings.

Hello there,

While on one of those wonderful journeys of discovery, that began by looking up a verse, and searching out comparative scriptures within their contexts, I found myself in Psalm 22, and later in Isaiah 53, both, as you farouk have said, Messianic passages of Scripture concerning the coming Redeemer and His sufferings. What blessings they contain to delight and gladden the heart of the believer, filling his heart with gratitude and wonder at the wondrous grace of God, and filling the eyes with tears at the realisation that it was all endured for our sakes. That while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

Praise His Holy Name!

Thank you both,
In Christ Jesus
Chris

'And Moses spake
.. in the ears of all the congregation of Israel
.... the words of this song,
...... until they were ended.

Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak;
and hear, O earth, the words of My mouth.
My doctrine shall drop as the rain,
My speech shall distil as the dew,
.. as the small rain upon the tender herb,
.... and as the showers upon the grass:
Because I will publish the name of the LORD:
.. ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
He is the Rock,
His work is perfect:
.. for all His ways are judgment:
.... a God of truth and without iniquity,
...... just and right is He. ... ... '

(Deuteronomy 31:30 - 32:4 & chapter)

* Not a Psalm, but a song none the less. Given by God to Moses: to speak unto the Children of Israel (Deuteronomy 31:19-22); Joshua having been commissioned to lead Israel, for Moses was to die (Deuteronomy 31:14): He was 120 years old (Deuteronomy 31:2). See also Revelation 15:2-4,

'And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire:
.. and them that had gotten the victory over the beast,
.... and over his image,
...... and over his mark,
......... and over the number of his name,
............ stand on the sea of glass,
.............. having the harps of God.
And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God,
and the song of the Lamb, saying,
.. Great and marvellous are Thy works,
.... Lord God Almighty;
...... just and true are Thy ways,
........ Thou King of saints.
Who shall not fear Thee, O Lord,
.. and glorify Thy name?
.... For Thou only art holy:
...... for all nations shall come and worship before thee;
........ for Thy judgments are made manifest.'

(Revelation 15:3-4)

Praise God!
Praise His Holy Name! - May His will be done in all things.

Thank you.
In Christ Jesus
our risen and glorified
Saviour, Lord and Head.

* Revelation 5:5-14 - is this the song of the Lamb?
* Revelation 14:3-5 - a new song (known only by and sung by the 144,000)

One can always see fresh things in the Psalms. Some churches go through the Psalms regularly.

Probably a good thing, but if a person's particular assembly does not, he can still do it himself... if he has access to a Bible.
