Mine or one of them has to be Psalm 23: :)

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."

Psalm 139 is most encouraging to me.

O Lord , thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord , thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee. Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. Do not I hate them, O Lord , that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
    Psalms 139:1‭-‬24 KJV

    A truly lovely Psalm, thank-you.

You've just given me an idea for this coming Lord's Day. The Scriptures are indeed so 'searching' - as they are meant to be, of course.

God revealed....three things to the Hebrews...

    Law,
    Statutes,
    Precepts.

    Neh 9:14

And each of those things were accompanied
As being Commanded by God, thus Approved of God.

Laws are numerous, pertain to specific things.... law of nature, law of families, groups, clans, cities, countries, religions, etc.
Laws may be "written", published, or not.
(Laws most commonly in brief, relate to people, land, possessions).

Statutes are written Laws. Typically "published".... yet historically, we know the dilemmas of "Hebrews" attempting to even "copy" and send the "written Statutes" to other Hebrews in other cities, (often such Statutes/Laws) being found by Gentiles Authorities, and burned.
(Statutes most commonly in brief, relate to Gods Writing His own Word).

Precepts are writings about Behaviors and Relationships.
God and Men, Men and God, Mankind and Mankind. God and His Creations. Mankind and Gods Creations.
Things that God Himself reveals what is acceptable to Him....and not acceptable to Him.....and the Expectation one CAN expect for any given Behavior.

I view the writings in the PSALMS as a wealth of KNOWLEDGE About Gods PRECEPTS....and like a joyful song of Praise for the Lord Gods great Wisdom in His Plan for mankind.

I view the PROVERBS as short quips ABOUT LIFE, that relate to the Wisdom of God revealed IN His Precepts.

An earthly mans LIFE is a journey. Beginning in a fallen state, and electing to be risen up out of that state by the Power of God or not.

From a mans desire TO be lifted up....is a journey in itself.....from a mans desire....TO a man being prepared to Make the leap, ie the Decision.

In the Psalms, IMO, a man on a journey from Desire TO Decision....can find in the Psalms, knowledge, encouragement, expectation, and Comfort to go from Desire to Decision with the "Strength" of the Lord Himself .... regardless if the man feels weak and scared or regardless if another soul in the entire World is willing to help him along moving from Desire to Decision.

    Excellent Thread... Thanks!

    God Bless,
    Taken

I usually don't like to designate one verse or chapter over another as being 'my favorite' because what works best one time is not always the same as what works best another time. Nevertheless, certainly I have over the years favored verse five of the following psalm as it has many times encouraged me when I really needed it...

"I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.

LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.

I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.

What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?

Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.

    Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;

To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever." Psalm 30:1-12

Very searching, and it's remarkable how in the Psalms David will regularly swing from one, deep, anguished thought to another, joyful, triumphant one.

    Thanks for your comment.

    Psalm 91:

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

    5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

    9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
