Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O Lord, and renew a right spirit within me.
This was a daily prayer I would pray because I KNEW my heart wasn't right.
I could feel the anger in it, the bitterness, the hardness.
I no longer felt compassion towards others and I DEFINITELY did not want to hear anyone's sorrows and woes.

Well that was then and today I have such a soft compassionate heart that when I read posts that spew out hurtful words I GRIEVE....in my spirit...and it goes all the way to the pit of my stomach.
(Hence some of my responses to some posts trying to promote peace).

I think the Holy Spirit over did it...lol....but in all seriousness it affirms that He is dwelling there and I am grieving as He grieves.
This is what God desires of all of us...to have the mind and heart of Jesus and the Holy Spirit indwelling in us in such a way that we actually experience His heart, His mind, and follow His ways. We are as one intertwined in the same body.
As I decrease He increases in me.
Thank you Lord for giving me YOUR heart, thoughts and desires.
Thank You for removing all the dross and purifying my heart.
All Glory and Praise to you Jesus! Amen!

Thanks Farouk...i prayed that scripture for 10 years....right after my husband died my heart died I guess.
@Heart2Soul YW; Psalm 51's searching nature seems on a par with Isaiah 48.10: 'I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.'

It sounds as if you have gone through a deep, perennial anguish of spirit following your experience; what Isaiah tells us is not that avoidance of affliction is what supposedly counts, but rather that, in the midst of it, the blessedness is to know that we are chosen, as we concentrate in a Godward trust and submission to His perfect will.

Bless you, farouk. The first time I encountered you at CF I told you that you have a very gentle spirit. I have never witnessed any ill towards others from you. You always try to apply scripture in your responses. And you are always encouraging others in His Word.
You almost sound like a preacher! :)
This scripture really ministered to me in a deeper sense than any others you have ever shared.
Thank you. The Lord Bless you and your wife! You have proven to be good stewards of His Word.

What immediately comes to mind about what you say, following on, is that 2 Corinthians 1.3-4 suggests a real ministry for you personally:

'Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.'

(Bedtime; have a good night.)

Thank you for your honesty in the OP, I can relate to what you said. I feel that way when I have a difficult work shift pattern, am tired and have demands on me that I cannot cope with- I get more bad days than good of late - so I think I will do as you did and make this my daily prayer.
So, thank you for sharing xx

Your welcome...we all struggle. That is why it is so important to share and encourage one another.

I know, right? I am amazed at how my Abba/father was able to pull me out of the depths of hell in my life and make something worthwhile out of it again. Just in total awe of Him!
Reminds me of Romans 8.15:

'For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.'

The cry of the heart in such a tremendous chapter full of wondrous truth!

Yes, very true. "...if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." (1 John 1.7); "...truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ." (1 John 1.3b).

Psalm 51:17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, God, you will not despise.

Jesus also refers to this scripture...

To have a contrite/broken heart is to be completely and utterly at a place of regret for our sins and despair of all hope that there is any salvation....except for His Mercy we would have no hope of redemption. This heart is one that is ready to turn away from what brought us to such a place. But this is exactly what brings us to our knees seeking His forgiveness. The pain associated with confronting our sin becomes too unbearable.

Psalm 51 is so searching.

At first, Romans 2 on repentance is very hard hitting...but there is the promise also of saving faith, which is wonderfully brought out in Romans.

@Heart2Soul

I do love what Spurgeon says about Gethsemane:

From Heart Light: Morning & Evening: Morning Devo, Mar. 21st

'Few had fellowship with the sorrows of Gethsemane. The majority of the disciples were not sufficiently advanced in grace to be admitted to behold the mysteries of "the agony." Occupied with the passover feast at their own houses, they represent the many who live upon the letter, but are mere babes as to the spirit of the gospel. To twelve, nay, to eleven only was the privilege given to enter Gethsemane and see "this great sight." Out of the eleven, eight were left at a distance; they had fellowship, but not of that intimate sort to which men greatly beloved are admitted. Only three highly favoured ones could approach the veil of our Lord's mysterious sorrow: within that veil even these must not intrude; a stone's-cast distance must be left between. He must tread the wine-press alone, and of the people there must be none with him. Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, represent the few eminent, experienced saints, who may be written down as "Fathers;" these having done business on great waters, can in some degree measure the huge Atlantic waves of their Redeemer's passion. To some selected spirits it is given, for the good of others, and to strengthen them for future, special, and tremendous conflict, to enter the inner circle and hear the pleadings of the suffering High Priest; they have fellowship with him in his sufferings, and are made conformable unto his death. Yet even these cannot penetrate the secret places of the Saviour's woe. "Thine unknown sufferings" is the remarkable expression of the Greek liturgy: there was an inner chamber in our Master's grief, shut out from human knowledge and fellowship. There Jesus is "left alone." Here Jesus was more than ever an "Unspeakable gift!" Is not Watts right when he sings-
"And all the unknown joys he gives,
Were bought with agonies unknown." '

"He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord." (Psalm 40.2-3)
