The Place of God’s Rest: Considering the Word says one must enter into His rest...it is important to consider the Rest said one must enter into. There is an Odd passage in Luke 9:57-60 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. [58] And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.[59] And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. [60] Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
“Lord, I will follow thee wherever you go.” Peter said the same. Luke 22:32-33 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. [33] And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
Peter was ready to go with Jesus...both into prison, and to death. Yet, Jesus told Peter he would deny knowing Jesus and once “converted” to strengthen the brethren. As also in the above concerning “a certain man” who said to Jesus “Lord, I will follow you wherever you go.” ...follow Him in to death? The Son of man has no place to lay his head is important in ...Matthew 26:8-12 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? [9] For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. [10] When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. [11] For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. [12] For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
The Son of man was anointed for burial...John said John was to decrease...the Son of man for burial, Christ “the Son of God” risen from the dead and alive and to increase. The Son of man to no longer be the head ...but the Son of God is Head in: He is risen and alive evermore! In “she has poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial” they were filled with indignation considering it “waste”. another gospel speaks of Judas who held the bag “not that he cared for the poor” but concerned with the waste. Jesus Christ words echo or better yet fulfill Isaiah 66: 1-2 HE was bread for the poor ...feeding the poor and contrite of heart for generation upon generation in a way the “waste” spoken of could never accomplish. Isaiah 66:1-2 Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? [2] For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord : but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
where is the house you build unto Me?
Where is the place of My rest?
A house built of God, and not man. A house with the Son of God as the Head, and not the Son of man who was laid to rest: passing from death into resurrection Life. How many times did Jesus say one must “pick up the cross and follow Me.” How many times did He say to enter into His rest: enter into His death to find Life? It is no longer the “son of man” as head ...but (my husband pointed this out last night) Matthew 16:15-18 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? [16] And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. [18] And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Who do you say He is? ...the Son of the living God.
Acts 7:46-50 Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. [47] But Solomon built him an house. [48] Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, [49] Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? [50] Hath not my hand made all these things?
The prophets saith: “the most High dwells not in temples made with hands”
Where does the most High dwell?
Psalm 132:4-9 I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, [5] Until I find out a place for the Lord, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob. [6] Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood. [7] We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool. [8] Arise, O Lord, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength. [9] Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.
The place of His rest ...the place of where He puts His peace and His Rest and and His Name and builds His tabernacle an dwells within: is Matthew 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
Ephesians 2:13-22 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. [14] For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us ; [15] Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; [16] And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: [17] And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. [18] For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. [19] Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; [20] And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone ; [21] In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: [22] In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
