Now for some strange reason Christianity has become synonymous with leaning way over to the right of the political spectrum.

But a Christian should never lean one way or the other. A Christian is to be centrist...balanced...and non-partisan where the opinions and aspirations of men are concerned.

God despises a false balance...a skewed balance.

Proverbs 11
11 A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.

Political parties are necessary in an evil society to counterbalance extremism on one side or the other....so we could see this as a necessary evil among UN-regenerate people. A Christian is not supposed to be part of the problem.

If a person can find common cause with worldly people...then that person is OF the world. Period. We are NOT to have a skewed balance but rather rely on the Lord and His judgments. Are we with the Lord or with the world and the options it provides?

The world will fool people into adopting one extreme position or the other...being rightist or leftist...for the sake of dividing people into camps. That is how the devil uses politics. Politics involve division and war. These are according to the world and the principalities and powers of the world.

When the world offers believers a choice as to which poison is better...and all options are indeed poison...we are to refuse both or all. We are to look to the Lord. No one who adopts man's ways is looking to God. So we can continue to pretend in a hypocritical way that we depend on God all the while adopting the prejudices and bents of worldly people...or we can at least make an effort to discover what is means to follow Christ. The way is narrow. We are NOT to turn to the left or right.

Prov. 4:27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

Agreed Episkopos, it alarms me how this relationship has evolved, or the synonymatic nature or stigma, of Christians and right-wing politics, ...maybe even left.
Are we not to be estranged from the world and all it's systems? And if the notion of being foreigners in this world is not enough, the specific politicians themselves should be enough to deter one from either favouring a party over another, or getting involved in worldly affairs and politics on any level. For it has corruption, secularism, pride, and autonomy from God, written all over it.
Even the idea of supporting one nation over another, bears the notion of segregation, competition and selfishness.
Just consider the fact that a theocracy was considered offensive to God (during the time of the Judges, first introduced with Samuel). How much more the systems that we have today?
