A: That is more than one question. Ishmaelites were from Abraham and Hagar. They were not in a tribe, as they were not part of Israel (if that is what you meant). Don't know what they wore?

Q: What was the sign of the Old Covenant. And what is the sign of the New Covenant?

Q: What was the sign of the Old Covenant. And what is the sign of the New Covenant?

What do you define as being the Old Covenant?

To be able to answer this question a person needs to have a clear understanding about what covenant you are referring too.

Exodus 34:28

That is what I thought you were referring too. The Ten Commandments are a part of the Kingdom of Priests, a Holy Nation and God's Possession among the Nations, Covenant. This covenant has no old or new aspects to it. In Jer 31:31ff God gives a prophecy that He will make like new again the same covenant that the Israelite nation had rejected at Mt Sinai, but with a small tweak where the statutes are written into their flesh and not onto stone.

The original form of the covenant is characterised by the nation having hearts of stone, while the refurbished/renewed form of the old covenant is characterised by the nation having a heart of Flesh.

Shalom

PS: - The Law, as you have put it, was not a separate covenant.

The Ten Commandments was the covenant I am speaking of. Exodus 34:28. Also called the ministry of death. What was its sign?

What is the sign of the New Covenant. Also called the ministry of the Spirit. What was its sign?

The Ten Commandments were part of the Kingdom of Priests, a Holy nation and God's Possession among the nations Covenant and is first told to the Israelite nation in Ex 20. The Ex 34 reference you are referring too, is where the Ten Commandments that form part of the Kingdom of Priests, a Holy nation and God's Possession among the nations Covenant is recorded by God on tablets of Stone and given to Moses.

What you are really asking, based on your response above is, "What is the difference between the Old and the Refurbished Ten Commandments by Christ?"

The answer is the Old form consisted of ten commandment statutes while the refurbished commandments of Christ consisted of two statutes on which hang all of the law and the prophets.

But Christ also said: -

Matt 5:17-19: - 17 "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Luke 16:16-17: - 16 "The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it. 17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail.

Now, my question is: -

What covenant did Christ come and preach about?

Shalom

People know the difference. But not many know what the signs of the covenants were. Like the covenant to Noah; the sign was the rainbow. The covenant to Abraham; the sign was circumcision. What is the sign of the Ten Commandments of Law. And what is the sign of the New Covenant of the Spirit

Interesting about the jewelry. Is that in the Bible or in the Quran?

You are right on the New Covenant, except it was only one of the elements. It was His blood that took away our sin. So the cup of the New Covenant is the sign of the New Covenant. Good job!

The sign of the Old Covenant of the Ten Commandments is the Sabbath. Exodus 31:13. It, along with all the other holy convocations of Leviticus 23 are being fulfilled in Christ.

So you got that right, and I finished this question, so you get to ask another question to keep this thread going. The if fun.

Interesting about the jewelry. Is that in the Bible or in the Quran?

Judges 8:24: - 24 Then Gideon said to them, "I would like to make a request of you, that each of you would give me the earrings from his plunder." For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.

It was also a sign of the Law. Surely you see circumcision mentioned dozens of times throughout the Law....

Circumcision was required to be considered an Israelite, and the covenant of a Kingdom of Priests, a Holy Nation and God's People among the Nations was made at Mt Sinai with the Israelites, and since they were also under the Abrahamic Covenant then any mention of being circumcised or circumcision, while in the desert for 40 years, is with resect to the requirements of the Abrahamic Covenant.

God told the Israelites to do this: -

Deut 10:16: - 16 Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer.

And promised that he would do this: -

Deut 30:5-6: - 5 Then the Lord your God will bring you to the land/earth which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it. He will prosper you and multiply you more than your fathers. 6 And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.

As of yet, God has not brought the Israelites into the earth, that is still a near future event as the Israelites are still a stiff-necked people.

Shalom

What covenant was Jesus referring to in Matt 13:52 when He made that statement?

The sign of circumcision was still present during the time of the Law, and became a law, itself. Abraham's covenant would not end until the Seed came. The Seed was Jesus, and He put an end to both the Abrahamic covenant and the Ten Commandment covenant. But the Ten Commandments was a covenant by itself, and had its own sign. What was it?

Both Jews and Muslims circumcise their boys, because of Abraham, and the fact they do not recognize the Seed.
