I find myself astounded sometimes as various people express their ideas about the Bible.

I see comments such as, "It's a dead book", "man's opinion's", "partly inspired, but not all".

Concerning the supremecy of Scripture, the accusations are, "you make the Bible your idol." Except it's 'bible'.

And it seems to me that when I see these sorts of comments, they are made by those who make claims of grand experiences, visits to heaven, seeing angels, seeing Jesus, being in the heavenly city, seeing the spiritual glory, it goes on.

Elevating experiences over the Bible. People do it, I understand.

I know of someone who had an incredible experience, seeing Jesus, in His glory, and the glory of the Father. He's even seen the ancient prophets. He says he's heard the audible voice of God, and I believe him. Whatever I've experienced, I haven't experienced that!

So I realize, that when you've seen these heavenly things, doesn't that give you something more than you can get out of a book? Any book?

But that's not what this fellow says. He tells me that even with this sort of experience, the Bible is still more certain.

Certainty. Isn't that what we want?

2 Peter 1
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Here where it says, "of any private interpretation", this is Young's Literal:

20 this first knowing, that no prophecy of the Writing doth come of private exposition,

21 for not by will of man did ever prophecy come, but by the Holy Spirit borne on holy men of God spake.

And here it is in the NLT:

20 Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, 21 or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

Peter himself, having seen Jesus transfigured, seen Him speaking with Moses and Elijah, seen the true glory cloud of God, having heard the Father audibly commend the Son.

Does anyone make claims like this?

Regardless . . . we have a More Sure Word of prophecy, which we do well to heed.

Much love!

Elevating experiences over the Bible.
This is unfortunately the current trend, but it has a long history. However, experiences can be deceptive, and even demonic in origin. The Native American shamans are good examples. There are many others all around the world.

For those who want the truth and love the truth, God's written Word provides the truth, since Jesus Himself is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and divine revelation is all about the Lord Jesus Christ. And He is the one who tells Christians to study the Word and rightly divide the Word of Truth.

However, experiences can be deceptive
That's just it! We need to have a standard we can compare ourselves to, and not just our own opinions.

And experiences can simply be misunderstood. Wrong conclusions reached. But God's Word never changes.

Much love!

see comments such as, "It's a dead book", "man's opinion's", "partly inspired, but not all".

The basic evangelistic questions are always useful.
What evidence do you have for that belief? And Why do you belief that?

Be familiar with the over whelming evidence for the accuracy and reliability of the Bible.
