Romans 1:6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

1:7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul in the book of Romans addresses the members of the church as saints (1 Corinthians 14:33) and as being called.

2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Being called is not the receiving of a special divine sense of direction for service, but rather it is the calling to salvation by the gospel, as can be seen in 2 Thessalonians 2:14.

Here is the gospel by which we are called today:

1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

We are all sinners who can not save ourselves.

See Romans 3:23 Titus 3:5 Romans 5:6

Christ died for our sins; He was our substitute, He paid the full penalty and debt for our sin by his blood sacrifice.

See 2 Corinthians 5:21 Romans 3:24 Romans 3:25 Romans 3:26

He was buried.

He rose again for our justification ( to declare us righteous) and forgiveness of all our sin. He gives us His righteousness and eternal life.

See Romans 4:25 Ephesians 1:7 Romans 4:22 Romans 4:23 Romans 4:24 1 Corinthians 1:30

All we have to do is believe the gospel.

See Romans 4:5 1 Corinthians 1:21 Ephesians 1:13

Believing is being persuaded that something is true.

See Romans 4:21

The moment you believe you have eternal life.

Titus 1:1 Titus 1:2 Titus 3:7

Trust the gospel of your salvation. Believe in Jesus Christ to have provided payment for your sins and to give you eternal life. Place your faith in Jesus Christ, in his blood, his death and his resurrection.

Once you receive forgiveness of sins and receive the comforter (the Holy Ghost, who God gives to those that obey Him-Acts 5:32) you must continue in obedience unto the end keeping His commandments and precepts. For the lukewarm, hypocrites and unprofitable servants will cast into outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

I Doug,

I love what you wrote here, a very clear presentation.

On this part above, you allude to it later, I just want to say, I think that saving faith is more than the persuasion of the truth of the Gospel.

Just like faith to move mountains is something more than believing it can be done.

I think that saving faith, like you put later, trust, to rely on Jesus' desire and ability to save me, to forgive and remake me. I can know that He can, while not putting my reliance in Him to make it so.

Before I became a Christian, God convinced me that the Bible was Truth. I'd read a lot of "religious" writings, metaphysical stuff, tonnes! And for the sake of completeness, I looked at the Bible also. And quickly realized that it was nothing like anything else. However, I know God's requirement, and it took me some time to come around to the fact that I wasn't part of a collective godhood, rather, I was to obey Jesus. I didn't want to. But, I came around.

Desiring Jesus, desiring to new, and relying on Jesus, what He's done for us, what He continues to do, that He will bring it to pass.

Good stuff!

Much love!

There was a question I asked someone else here who says much the same thing, though they did not answer to my disappointment!

Tell me . . .

By what act are we justified?

Much love!

Another thought as I read through this again . . . Our justification is also, I think, reflected in our new creation. If any be in Christ he is a new creature, old things have passed away, behold, all is become new, now all is of God. Being born from God we are no longer of Adam's line of humanity.

Death in Christ is death to the man born from Adam. Christ is raised to our justification, that we are no longer that cursed child of disobedience, but raised to new life in Him, the new humanity, alive in Christ, righteous and truly holy.

Much love!

God's Word excerpts from biblegateway various ones,
in Romans, in Harmony with all Scripture, all God's Plan, and all God's Purpose in Jesus.

Romans 2:13
SUM PIC XRF DEV STU
Verse (Click for Chapter)
New International Version
For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.

New Living Translation
For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight.

English Standard Version
For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.

Romans 2 English Standard Version (ESV)
God's Righteous Judgment
2 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. 2 We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. 3 Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? 5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.

6 He will render to each one according to his works:

but for those who are self-seekinga]">[a] and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. 9 There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, 10 but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. 11 For God shows no partiality.

4 Or are you [so blind as to] trifle with and presume upon and despise and underestimate the wealth of His kindness and forbearance and long-suffering patience? Are you unmindful or actually ignorant [of the fact] that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repent (a]">[a]to change your mind and inner man to accept God’s will)?

5 But by your callous stubbornness and impenitence of heart you are storing up wrath and indignation for yourself on the day of wrath and indignation, when God’s righteous judgment (just doom) will be revealed.

6 For He will render to every man according to his works [justly, as his deeds deserve]:

To those who by patient persistence in well-doing ">[b]springing from piety] seek [unseen but sure] glory and honor and [c]">[c]the eternal blessedness of] immortality, He will give eternal life.

8 But for those who are self-seeking and self-willed and disobedient to the Truth but responsive to wickedness, there will be indignation and wrath.

All who have sinned without the Law will also perish without [regard to] the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged and condemned by the Law.

13 For it is not merely hearing the Law [read] that makes one righteous before God, but it is the doers of the Law who will be held guiltless and acquitted and justified.

14 When Gentiles who have not the [divine] Law do instinctively what the Law requires, they are a law to themselves, since they do not have the Law.

15 They show that the essential requirements of the Law are written in their hearts and are operating there,

For it is not merely the hearers of Torah whom God considers righteous; rather, it is the doers of what Torah says who will be made righteous in God’s sight. 14 For whenever Gentiles, who have no Torah, do naturally what the Torah requires, then these, even though they don’t have Torah, for themselves are Torah! 15 For their lives show that the conduct the Torah dictates is written in their hearts.b]">[b]
