@Joseph77..I was attempting to respond to your thread and found out it was closed..what a shame...and WHY....I thought your OP made much sense and is applicable today, indeed.

This is what I had to say on it....

Well for me the OP is quite clear and understandable. In Leviticus these four areas forbidden and mention be many on this thread already had solid purpose: having a tattoo and cutting one's skin meant to identify with surrounding pagan tribes and their rituals despicable to the LORD. And similarly, cutting the side of the head or shortening the beard meant again to identify with tribes of pagan culture. The LORD wanted his people to do specific things that he commanded in faith, for their own physical, mental and spiritual well-being; and to separate themselves from the world. And doing this in faith meant they would never question what's the big deal with having a tattoo or cutting the beard shorter, for example. As we all know his people eventually fell out of faith for him and his commands and began to conform to pagan ways and their culture.

Now for me Romans 14:23 also speaks to doing things in faith, else it can turn to sin, quickly and eventually. If we have to question ourselves whether having a tattoo is alright or not, usually means to me it is wrong. And because it is my heart and the Spirit within me that is responding. Again, for me having external devices and I use devices or displays very loosely here can be sin, sin of pride, self-adoration that can weaken my faith quickly, acutely and chronically. That is even why at home I do not have exotic or any extravagant large pictures on the wall...I'm convicted and firmly convinced they too are idols and can be sin. The same would go for a fine 'Christian symbol worn around my neck or a shape or symbol dyed into my skin.

So I understand the OP...it does show from Leviticus even and now under the age of grace for salvation we are really no better and maybe worse than those the LORD spoke to a few thousand years ago. It is all about keeping the faith solely in the LORD and that does not mean faith in the LORD +++in the 'church' building to capture unbelievers to Christ.....faith in the LORD +++a cross to make one proud to be a 'Christian' and even prideful in front of the world...and there are many, many more examples.....

So the lack of virginity also follows the same path from this OP ..faith in the LORD. It differs from the other objects I mentions above that can easily turn to sin. This one od no sex before marriage is quite clear and binary whilst the tattoo or the cross wearing can be become more deceptive and at first seem to be innocent, and can quite easily turn into temptation, enticement and cause sin over time if not contained..IMO, I do not go there....

In context, you brought up the issues of cutting the beard, and relayed that man turned away from God and stop doing these things, then you don’t mention that again, only the tattoo and cutting of the skin. So this issues needs to be addressed as well....... how many Christian men on here cut their beards/ shave For some it will be for purely practical reasons, no vanity, for others it is pure vanity because they want to look good ( care about their appearance more than anything else ) It’s the motive behind the action that God sees. Now you could get a legalistic come on here who doesn’t agree with any men shaving or cutting their beards - so they condemn everyone who admits to doing that.......... without knowing the motive.

You also mention wearing of crosses, now personally I don’t - I use to , but my ughts about it changed , but I wouldn’t go round condemning anyone who does it , would you condemn if they were wearing it with a sincere heart that it reminds them of the price Jesus paid for their sin. Now if someone flaunted a cross and used it in a prideful way ‘ saying look at me I am a Christian ‘ , then you can challenge there motive.
I can only speak of myself, no one else......I don’t have a tattoo to align to the world, there were very deep and personal reasons for why I wanted it done , why I chose what I had, and why I have never regretted it.
I to have been asked about it by non Christian, and have been able to share testimony to what God brought me through. I am not asking anyone on here to agree, understand,......but what is so hard to take is the constant condemnation through posts and the generalisation ................

You reached your conclusions, Jospeh reached his, but it doesn’t mean that anyone who draws a different conclusion for themselves is condemned because of the conclusions that you have reached ......I am studying the OT at the moment, and pray regular for open eyes and ears, if at any point my conclusions are different , then I will address it with the Lord

Of course you have to speak out if you disagree , I don’t have a problem with that at all- but all week , in different threads, it’s been there from one particular persons ..........that is not helpful and achieves nothing, in my opinion.
I think I am done with the subject of tattoos,perhaps have a thread about beard cutting and see who is complies.........we’ve already had the one about women cutting their hair and it being forbidden,that was interesting, but never had one about the beard cutting ..........

Have a friend who is Fillipino, if he didnt shave for 12 months he would be lucky to have 3 whiskers, we where talking about it few weeks ago,

This is one point, we do not want to kid ourselves right?

The entire point being if we have the TRUTH and it resides within us, we tend not to go off and wrestle with this truth as a mature believer. We listen and hear the Spirit speak to us, which way to go, act, and what type of appearance causes sin. ..I guess I'll stop here. Yes, guys trim their beards and hair usually for hygiene purposes and for a practical matter. I do it all the time. More than this though can be sin, sin indeed as we can become the center of attention with this act and appearance....as was the mindset of those passages cited in Leviticus.

Who said anything about being in a panic , and I am not condemning myself - must be the way you heard the words as opposed to how I wrote them. I talk to the Lord all the time. Vanity was never part of why I got a tattoo, and if you really knew me you would equally know that I seldom go over board with how I look ect.
As for maturity .........hmmmm yes, I see you think you are way ahead of me in that arena, you may be right or wrong either way , Its difficult to evaluate from just posting on a forum. We only really get a glimpse of one another........
Thankfully I have a very strong faith myself..........

As regards hair, my wife did The Chop years ago. She is a professional woman, and she basically looks like many professional women with similar chopped hair. I keep my hair short, although with the current restrictions it's hard to find a hairdresser that's open; maybe the same where you are. Must be hard for that profession over these weeks.

My guess is that when it's over there will be long line-ups to get chopped, with lots of sidecuts etc ready for the summer.

As regards hair, my wife did The Chop years ago. She is a professional woman, and she basically looks like many professional women with similar chopped hair. I keep my hair short, although with the current restrictions it's hard to find a hairdresser that's open; maybe the same where you are. Must be hard for that profession over these weeks.

My guess is that when it's over there will be long line-ups to get chopped, with lots of sidecuts etc ready for the summer.

The mere possibility that this virus would be engineered and released intentionally to target the elderly has raised my ire. I can think of nothing more despicable than someone who looks at the effects of a disease and says... this gives me an idea.

Rita calm down...just look at the actual footage section then..the live video...try to overcome your fears and just FORGET the FOX and Alex Jones labels if you can. If I could bring you the footage by CNN or by some other means without these labels you seem to despise then you would think it was safe and ok to view..I just cannot find it being available in that form ..its funny how folks are at times..wrong or false perceptions can kill people's mind as it shrinks....no, I'm not getting heavy on you at all....you still can watch the footage part without getting sick I hope...it is eye-opening...
