I'm 41, and I have 3 tattoos and love them if they're done well and placed well! Most of my friends have at least one and so do many women I know in their 40s.

This is a very typical comment. Indeed, it's what ppl do now.

@Nancy, back a bit you said:

Well, no doubt about your regret!

But like you say, it is what ppl do, now.

People today kill their own children, it is what people do, now.

No judgment; it is the new "normal"! Right?

@Rita Maybe you were addressing this to others, but I think that henna ones from India — which I know little about — do kind of prove that it's undeniably a rather feminine thing to do, I suppose. Based on the fact that in the West years ago not so many women would get tattooed (though how that's changed now), some ppl might claim that tattoos are not really a womanly thing to do, but this is hard to claim now and in any case henna really proves it is a very womanly thing to do, if desired (if this makes any sense?)

I do think that today it's come full circle now.

It's no longer some kind of sign of being radical and avant-garde (if it even ever truly was).

It's something that very conservative, traditional ppl can be attracted to do with confidence, without it being somehow unusual.

A bit like double pierced ears over 40 years ago, when teen girls (and their moms) started getting doubles put in; if maybe at first it was briefly a bit edgy, yet now it can be done by women of all ages and it's not remotely unusual.

(In around 1979, if -say - a 19 year old and her mom aged 49 had their doubles put in, they would now be aged 60 and 90 respectively. I think probably the situation with ink may soon be rather similar.)

Yes, it sure is quite the worldly trend. It used to be someone was unique when they got a tattoo now, it is quite unique for a person to NOT have one. I have a 23 year old lovely niece who does not have one and I love that. I do hope she will not get one. You know, be unique :D
She has beautiful, almost alabaster skin and I would hate to see her change, permanently, what God gave her naturally

This is just my own personal take on all of this stuff. Please do not think I am judging anybody with a tattoo, I have one myself! Of course, it's like 40 years old and nobody can even tell what it is! Lol

In Him Always :)

@Nancy Well, maybe better not tell her what you think else she may start getting curious about tattoos! Or then again maybe you already told her...

Well, I guess that because they are now so widespread this is why a lot of Christians think they are a really good opportunity to express a faith based idea that ppl will maybe comment on and discuss or think about. (I don't suppose yours is faith based from when you got yours years ago; otherwise maybe you wouldn't regret it as much...)

Back then, no, I did not know it was faith based but now...I can say it is kind of, lol...it is a dove with a heart in it's beak. Was made with many colors, wasn't white tats back then and, I never connected the dove and one of the Holy Spirit's manifestations.

When we speak about tattooing, she say's IF she ever were to get a tat, it would be a henna. I tell her - awesome! ;)

@Nancy Well, I guess that henna ( like @Rita was asking about) kind of proves quite strongly that tattooing in one form or another is indeed very much a woman's thing to do if desired - in the past some ppl might have tried to argue that it wasn't quite ladylike to get tattooed - since I suppose there was a time in the West when not so many women got tattooed - but with its sheer prevalence now it's very, very hard to argue that now, not least with the example of henna.

Anyway its sheer prevalence now does open a lot doors for Christians to feel open to be inked up with faith designs now.

I'm not sure how I personally feel about tats. .. I have not had the inclination to add more....even those that may give God the glory.
@Angelina PS: I reckon that in any case, since the time you yourself were inked, it's become more widespread than previously, and it's become something that Christians have been more willing to take opportunities for with faith based one that may give God the glory, than previously.

This is probably fair and accurate, anyway.

@Angelina You just mentioned your older sister (in the 70s, etc.); she probably grew up at a time when it wasn't as widespread for women to get tattooed; whereas things were changing when you grew up; I guess we are all creatures of our own times in a manner of speaking.
