49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. (Ezekiel 16:49)

what you believe about sodom is true but incomplete

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. (Matthew 25:34-46)

you can miss the kingdom of God if you "miss" poor people

if i ruled the world, there would be no poor people. it's our duty to help them, not a little help, but help to live well. what i want is covered by the words of Lord Jesus. who is against that? satanists. even God is an obstacle to this idea because we don't respect his law. this should be done for poor people and any human, a bible to read it and help to live well. bible quotes:
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (Matthew 22:39)
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. (Matthew 5:42)
24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. (John 7:24)

A lot of "poor people" live that way out of choice...….. POOR choices.

You are correct Willie. When I was working for all those many years, scraping ice off my windshield at 5 A.M. on a sub zero temp, I would be judging and criticizing those who were too lazy to get a job. Even wanted to get that bumper sticker say's : "OFF TO WORK I GO AS MILLIONS ON WELFARE DEPEND ON ME" After the last 4 plus years, I see things differently there. Yes, God did say we would have the poor always and I do believe He wants us to help them. We could just say to heck with 'em all! But...wouldn't it be our own heart God is looking at if/when we do help feed the poor...doesn't matter if that particular poor person is poor because of poor choices or not if God is only concerned with what we will do for someone less fortunate than ourselves?
Anyhow, that...and working with them now has changed my understanding like, a hundred and eighty degrees.

I can't agree entirely. I don't think God expects us to be foolish with what He gives us to help others with. And giving irrationally to many "poor" people is very foolhardy.

Nobody is talking about being a doormat, and I don't believe God expects that. So, how would one know if someone poor, who is asking for food is that way because of bad choices and even so, how can we say simply judge them in that way...we can say "oh, they don't deserve anything from me!" but then do we deserve.....?
Many reasons a person is poor or homeless and I don't think it's our place to judge them at all. God will judge them and us accordingly and what will we say when Jesus say's something to the effect of: "I was thirsty and you gave me no water, I was hungry and you gave me no food...."? Just a thought Willie.

I am a firm believer that if you cannot read a Biblical passage, and then, later, turn around and speak the meaning of those words to someone in the vernacular and jargon they use daily.... then you, yourself, probably never understood that passage in the first place.

So, tell us, in your own words, what the verse you just quoted above means to the average man on the street.

(And, what the heck does that last sentence mean?) Is that saying our State tax money should be used to feed people?

buddy, you really are interested? or you look for women?
OK, I think I see the problem now. English is not your first language, right? And you got the idea somewhere that quoting Scripture at one another is the way Christians communicate?

Well, a few do — even some here — but that is not really the way to discuss things.

5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. (Luke 4:5)

poor people <- OP

Everything in Scripture has TWO meanings/Understandings.

1) Natural Carnal Minded (secular/society)
Understanding...

2) Godly Spiritual Understanding.

Matt 26:
[11] For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

Yes, poor in Natural needs of Food.
Yes, poor in Spirit. Without Christ, the poor in spirit do not believe.

Ponder the consequences for the Poor in spirit Disbelievers.

1 Tim 5:
[
8] But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and isworse than an infidel.

Ponder HOW MANY people Do NOT Provide for their own!
(Compelled Taking from one to give to another, is neither Generosity, Gleeful giving, but rather scheming Theft).

As long as there are Poor in spirit, there will be Poor in society.

Glory to God,
Taken

it's our duty to help them, not a little help, but help to live well.
This is correct. Yes, Jesus did say to his disciples that the poor would always be there, but that did not mean that God had mandated poverty, or that something could not be done about it.

But the issue of poverty -- and how to help the poor to escape poverty -- is not a simple matter. The War on Poverty in America was a disaster, because the underlying principles were false. From 1959 to 2016 (as charted) the number of people in poverty in the USA dropped between 1970 and 1975, and then rose again steadily, since now it is the same number are shown as in 1959! Between 2010 and 2016 it was quite a bit higher. Millions of illegal aliens may have contributed to this, yet Leftist politicians promote lawlessness in America, and actually set up sanctuary cities and states to promote illegal migrant invasion. After all money is simply printed and churned out by the government.

Government interference in the economy has devastated the finances of many. When countries went off the gold standard, they caused the prices of goods and services to rise. But if tax rates are exorbitant, or if there is inflation or hyper inflation, then incomes will disappear. And if governments give indiscriminate cash handouts and welfare checks, then it is more profitable to declare oneself poor by remaining unemployed. The Welfare Culture is a product of stupid government policies.

To keep this at a very basic level, if a person is gainfully employed, and fairly paid, he will have an income stream. On the other hand, if people have a poor work ethic, they have only themselves to blame if they are poor. At the same time, if a hard-working person is encouraged to set up a viable business (and not all businesses are viable today), and provided with the necessary advice and assistance, he does not have to remain poor.

Another interesting anomaly is that people wandering round the streets with trash bags full of cans and bottles are not necessarily poor, but have chosen this ridiculous lifestyle, since some of them have become quite wealthy, without paying any taxes for cash transactions! So appearances can fool you.

Then we have the issue of homelessness, and all the related issues which go with it. That is because civic governments have never sat down to work out a proper solution for this evil phenomenon. Some people are homeless because of circumstances, but others choose to be homeless because they are moochers. But then so are the politicians who do next to nothing and mooch off the tax-payers.

Actually, one cannot divorce the issue of poverty from poor governance. All governments are deeply in debt because fiscal decisions are in the hands of self-serving politicians, when they should be in the hands of sharp and independent money managers who are under a strict mandate to (1) demand balanced budgets from politicians, and (2) eliminate public debt. At least 70% of government expenditures are either unnecessary or wasteful, but no one has bothered to stop politicians from having their hands in the pork barrels, or to stop bureaucrats from lavishly wasting tax-payer money. Some of the waste is utterly shocking.
