I quite like males with ear rings...either one or both... but I'm not keen on tats.
Especially on females.

@Helen Both earrings and ink are very, very widespread; as are varying likes and dislikes about them!

Yes, I agree; it can be rugged and tasteful if a man has the confidence to wear one earring or a pair.

And there's Biblical precedent for men wearing them / ear piercing, isn't there?

In the end it's about having the confidence to pull it off, really.

They were both 18 which by law in Oklahoma you have to be to get one...so no I don't think they should have told, I just wish they would have talked with me about it so that I could determine why they were getting one...for example were they doing it because their friends did it, or just curious about getting one, or did they have a reason for one...as in a special message related to the tattoo......
and both of them admitted they had no message or reason...they just thought it was cool to have one...

@Heart2Soul Yes, well, it seems like it's what young ppl especially young women expect to do now. So often is the case, anyway. I think a lot of parents of young adults tend now - instead of fighting the idea - learn to embrace the idea instead, right?

Learning to embrace the idea of their first inking rite of passage can sometimes for a short while be a steep learning curve, can't it?

But I suppose often, learning to embrace the fact of them doing it can become a win-win thing, really. (A a proportion of designs are likely to be faith based anyway.)

PS: @Heart2Soul So many of them at that age would just say (whether a bit lamely or not), it feels good!

But maybe the moral that some Christians would follow is: Use it for something really constructive, such as a faith based design, right?

There are all sorts of views about it, but the increase of faith based design opportunities seems self-evident in my humble opinion.

I just voted. Sorry Farouk. Ive been awfully preoccupied lately! I put unsure. I think it can go both ways. Always good vs. evil. But whatever good it does is for the glory of God. When I find out if baby boy is June or July, I'll think of a mother ring to add to my tattoo charm anklet

I'm sure you would recommend that it feels really memorable to become a uniquely tattooed mom - and moreover to be open for more inking, when blessed with another child, right?

Branding is really about removing skin with heat, whereas tattooing properly is about injecting ink into the dermis. I expect if you've ever visited a parlor you've seen how the process is quite different from branding.

I've never entered a tattoo parlor. I've watched the tattoo shows that used to be on TV however. And when I was a teenager I worked at a pizza shop across the street from the local university. And had occasion to witness fraternity members who would come in after being branded by their brothers.

Sure. Some tatooist have amazing skill, others are obviously not so skilled and sadly some can't spell correctly. I would say the skill level has that scale from amazing to poor in all forms of art.

@Taken Given the tattoo artist profession being so widely sought after in the Bible Belt (quote, below), it's clear that artistic tattoo work including for quality faith based artwork is likely to remain at a premium. It's a very competitive field, but one which is opening up continually, and lately many very skilled women have been choosing to pursue the profession.

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.

I can certainly understand that some young Christians maybe especially young women would find it a very inviting and rewarding (not necessarily - though maybe - financially but in terms of skill satisfaction) profession to work hard at in training.
