@marks do you realize the significance of this? Pagan gods? So the Sabbath which was changed to Sunday by some religion changed to a day that the Romans worshipped the sun?
Oh mercy...we take for granted what we have been forced to accept as harmless in our lives...I am going to start checking out other everyday words from now on that we use....such as the months of the year...and I am already aware of our holidays being pagan.

Anything we can steal from Satan in honor of Jesus is okay with me. Easter we only think of Jesus; same with Christmas. Take That Satan! You're forgotten!

Some Catholic churches may be lax, but the Vatican avoids using the pagan names. They call the first day of the week the Lord's day and then use numbers for the rest. Your study of the months may surprise you since the "numbers" are off by two. Thus December used to be the tenth month of the year. It is amazing the claptrap that's hung around.

For all intents and purposes, the origin of the days of the week are meaningless. Wednesday was not for a Roman but for a Norse god -- Wodin. As were several others.

I've known this for a long time. But the idol is nothing.

And I Like Christmas, I don't care what the origin, or why the date, I realize the issues, just the same, for me, it's a time of worship.

The days of the week, just names. Some people only say, First Day, Second Day, so on.

I wouldn't say the Sabbath was changed to Sunday, rather, the Sabbath is a Jewish observance, while worship on the 1st day of the week became the Christian practice. And that day was called by some after the name of their god, and that name stuck.

Here's something . . .

When Babylon took captives from Judah,

Daniel 1
6 Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.

Daniel was renamed Belteshazzar, "Bel protect the king".

In Daniel 4:19, the Scripture actually calls Daniel by this name:

19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.

So I'm not too concerned about using the same week day names as the rest of the world does.

Much love!

Just what Satan desires. He cares not what we assert or deny about him. His interest is how he can get a person to pay him allegiance without knowing to whom allegiance is being given.

What you think you're stealing from Satan in honour of Jesus is not honouring Jesus at all......it's falling right into the trap Satan has set.....ie, worshipping him while thinking you're worshipping God.

So you do not celebrate Christmas or Easter? Your denomination does.

my denomination?? These dates do not correspond to anything outlined in the scripture. I don't have any inclination to take notice of them irrespective of what is said they celebrate.

It's like Sunday.....people can say it's the Lords day but it's not the day Jesus said he was Lord of. I find this pretty straight forward.

These celebrations are in fact in honour of pagan deities/theories masquerading as being Christian.

Sorry, I thought you were a Seventh-day Adventist. Guess not, huh? Messianic?

And if you suggest that Sunday is not the day the NTC met on, it was Saturday, you are a heretic. I have just finished reading a book that gives the background to the NTC after Pentecost and every reference to a meeting was either in the evening for a meal or on a Saturday for a meeting. Not once does it mention Sunday.

@marksman read my OP....I simply shared something I never knew about what the days of the week were in definition and that they originated from pagan gods.
Do you understand what a true heretic is?

Really? Quaker? I didn't know they kept Saturday as the Sabbath?
.....I suppose one could add a little humour by quoting Isaiah 53:3 talking about Jesus 'a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief....' and say he was a Sadducee.......hhhmmmmm, Sad u see. Some how I don't think that'd wash!

I recently told how I treated every book of the Bible individually instead of accepting it all at once. I had a real problem with Esther for a long time. So far as I could determine, Jesus never quoted from it. That was important to me since if Jesus quoted from a book, it seemed to me he was approving of it. "God" is never mentioned in it -- at least not in the Hebrew original. The most troubling part for me though was how the names "Esther" and "Mordecai" seemed to be versions of "Ishtar" and "Marduk." The sevens in Esther reminded me of the sevens in the tale about Inanna (or Ishtar) going through the seven gates of the underworld.

No doubt about it that the Jewish calendar got affected by their sojourn in Babylon -- as you can see in the month named "Tammuz."

It probably took two or three years before the book of Esther began to fit with other passages in the Bible for me; and once I saw that pattern, it seemed inspired to me. Sometimes to be understood, we may use "pagan" words since that's what will be understood.
