Ah, so you empty your mind? Where in the Bible does God instruct us to empty our minds?

Hello Prayer Warrior

While I disagree with Christians practicing Yoga.

I am going to take this off topic a little since you asked this question, I know you didn't ask it to me, but I will answer it anyway.

"Ah, so you empty your mind? Where in the Bible does God instruct us to empty our minds?"

The Bible tells us to cast all our cares and worries to the Lord.

Here are a few different translations.

1 Peter 5:7
New International Version
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

New Living Translation
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

English Standard Version
casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

New King James Version
casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

American King James Version
Casting all your care on him; for he cares for you.

Is this completely emptying your mind? No, of course not, but it is emptying your mind of worries and passing it on to the Lord.

We can also ask the Lord to take away any negative thoughts, any thoughts that aren't from God, that is also a form of emptying your mind, emptying your mind of junk. But when we empty our mind of junk, we want it filled with what is good, what is pure, what is Holy, Heavenly thoughts, what is of God.

Perhaps that needs a new thread though, if we want a discussion on that, as it has nothing to do with Yoga. I don't think it would make a very big discussion though. :p

We don't empty our mind of worries. We turn them over to Him, and He takes them from us and replaces them with His peace.

So..our goal is NEVER to empty our minds, but to change our thoughts.

I have found that when I try NOT to think about something, my endeavor not to think about it inevitably makes me think about the thing I'm trying not to think about.... But If I replace the thoughts with godly thoughts, then I no longer think the thoughts I don't want to think.

Hope this makes sense. :)

And I don't see how this is much different to what I said, because what are we doing by casting our cares and worries to God? We are getting rid of them from our minds and handing it up to God and in return God's peace fills us.

We are probably making the same point though, but using different words, but I do consider it an appropiate use of words "to empty our minds of worries and hand it up to God"

As we are to?

"Be anxious for nothing" worries aren't meant to be in our minds, they aren't meant to occupy our minds, it is not healthy for worries to fill the mind, yet because we are human, most of us still get them, so if we get them we are meant to get rid of them, by handing it up to God. Worry is a form of fear, it does not belong in the Christian mind, because it is a form of fear, we are to get rid of that fear. When we hand up a worry to God, we get rid of that fear.

Paul is telling us what kind of thoughts not to have; he's not telling not to have any thoughts at all....

Which is the point I was making, by not completely emptying your mind, but only emptying the junk.

I still take issue with your use of the word "emptying." We don't empty our minds of any thoughts, but we REPLACE the bad with the good. We dwell upon the things that are good....

The whole concept and reason for emptying the mind isn't Christian at all. The goal of emptying the mind is altered consciousness, period. This is dangerous and provides an opening for demonic influence. The videos I posted (in the Yoga thread) explain all this. You should take a listen.

1 Corinthians 14:20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

The OP topic makes me think of: 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds [5] Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

And also: Isaiah 55:7-9 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. [8] For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. [9] For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Change our point of focus? Remember Peter looking first at the face of Jesus as he stepped out on the water walking? Then he changed his focus to the wrong things... looking down at the dangerous water beneath in concern and worry and he began to sink. We know the filthy waters of sin and death are under our feet, but we are not look at or dwell upon them!

We can empty our minds of everything else, fill them up with the knowledge of God, and meditate on Him, be with Him.

I heard a great story this morning on Family Radio. A man was in the hospital soon to die. The pastor was making rounds, saw the empty chair next to the man's bed, went in, sat down. He started speaking with the man, who was a Christian. The pastor asked him if someone was visiting him, because of the chair.

The man told him, years ago, he didn't have a real awareness of God in prayer. But someone had told him, Jesus is always with us, you can always talk to Jesus just like someone sitting right here in this chair, just having a conversation like people do. So ever since he's put a chair nearby him to remember that Jesus is always here.

Not too many days after, the pastor was making his rounds, and stopped back to see this man. The bed was empty and made, the chair next to it, as a woman was gathering together his personal effects. The woman asked the pastor if he knew her father, and he told her briefly of their visit. She told him, "He passed away this morning. He wasn't in pain or anything, just one weird thing . . ." She looked at the chair. "What was that?" he asked her. "Well, somehow, just before he died, he pulled himself over to the side of his bed, so he could lay his head on that chair! Isn't that the strangest thing?"

Much love!

Music is the Universal Language,

I once read they have these.. I dont know what they are, but they go out to the planets and listen.
And each planet has it's own song, it's own vibration.
And the earth, well, that's one is real pretty..or not, depends on the frequency.
It's amazing what sounds are going on all the time and we can't even hear them.
But animals can, like Dogs and birds..
This video about 7 minutes kind of let's us listen in on the world we can't hear.
