All previous sins.
1)If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
2)If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

next........................

hope this helps !!!

You are not quoting the entire verses pertaining to the one who says he has no sin. Here it is:

1 John 1:8-9 KJV
[8] If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The one who says he has no sin to confess is the one deceived.

Those who confess their sins are cleansed and are not sinners any longer; furthermore:

1 John 3:9 KJV
[9] Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; ...and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1 John 1:8 speaks of indwelling sin in the present and future and 1 John 1:10 speaks of practical sins in the past.

1 John 1:8 does not speak of practical sinning; otherwise it is in contradiction to 1 John 3:9, 1 John 3:6 w/ 1 John 2:17, and 1 John 3:7-8.

It is speaking of indwelling sin that can be rendered dead (Romans 6:6, Galatians 5:24, Romans 7:8) so that it no longer has any say over your behaviour (Romans 6:14).

I'm quoting John and pointing out who he calls liars and deceivers

Romans 3:25 KJV
[25] Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God

Not for the continuous remission of sins to come.
It then speaks of declaring "at this time" his righteousness; the past referred to the time witnessed by the law and by the prophets, verse 21.

I'm quoting those who John calls liars

That would be those who deny that they ever had any sins to confess to God for redemption in Christ.

I’m sure there are those like this in the world. Not sure how this pertains to defending Eternal Security though...

Sorry the book is written to BELIEVERS

1)If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
2)If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

John points out deceivers and liars above who don't have the truth in them nor Gods word in them.

2 Peter 1:9 KJV
[9] But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

By the way, this follows the instructions to add to your faith in order to be secure in the faith (2 Peter 1:5).

It's good to remember that for the believer and his or her relation to the work of Christ eternal security is a given. These is no sense of someone being saved, then lost on Thursday, then saved again on Friday and if s/he keeps it up may stay saved over the weekend (this is how priestcraft lures ppl back to the church to keep 'doing something' for them). It's a joy and privilege to rest in the one, finished offering (Hebrews chapters 9 and 10).

@farouk, I didn't know you had mormonism in your theology...

@Michiah-Imla We indeed increase our assurance of faith - a great theme.

There is however never any doubt in the sight of God of a true believer's eternal security, because He sees believers in Christ, on account of His finished work at the Cross.

The promise of eternal security is given to those whom Jesus knows (John 10:27).

Jesus will say to many on that day, I never knew you, because they were workers of iniquity (Matthew 7:23).

Those who practiced iniquity will be cast into the furnace of fire (Matthew 13:41-42).

You are correct.

Once they are lost by their own choice to serve sin, game over:

Hebrews 10:27 KJV
[27] But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

The Bible was written to all mankind.

But all men are not capable of receiving the spiritual things contained therein (1 Corinthians 2:14).
especially 1 John 1:8 and 1 John 1:10 since John says the truth is not in them not His word

You assume this; no scripture says he planned this behavior.

The fact that the scripture says that Peter feared them of the circumcision shows that his action was not with intentions to deny the truth, but to protect himself from the Jews. Much like David, when he lied to Ahimelech the priest (1 Samuel 21:2); David is not condemned for this in scripture because of the situation he was in.

God knows the intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12) and understands the actions of men; we can only judge by the appearance of things which is condemned by the Lord (John 7:24).
The verse in John says we're not to judge by appearances. Rather, we're to exercise righteous judgment.

You are correct.

I meant to communicate that we were not to judge according to the appearance of what Peter was doing in “living as the Jews”; as the OP did in his argument.

Paul judged him, confronted Peter and said he stood condemned for his hypocrisy. I'm sorry that you deny Scripture and the Truth in Galatians 2 which is inspired by God.

hope this helps !!!
