I know someone that is a professional chef. She was going to volunteer and cook a huge meal for the members of a local veterans club. People volunteered to help because with the menu and numbers expected she needed the help.
Today was the second day of prep. Turns out the so called volunteers called out, one after the other, claiming they tested positive for Covid. One after the other. Calling within five minutes of the other person calling out.
They aren't positive. They're lazy and had other plans for the holiday.
That's beyond pathetic. And it would have served veterans$ too. Now, the club has to sell the turkeys to try and make their monies back.
It's amazing how this pandemic nonsense brings out the pathetic and lame parts of people's personalities.
Who does that! And these were civilian volunteers letting down Vet's.

And if they were out having Thanksgiving dinner with friends or family then they show up to an empty house....if the police actually show up at all.
And when they figure out it's a crank call...they can be invited to a plate of vittles with a family. (Knowing my friends)

As a recovered professional chef...
I've been in those situations. And I just hunkered down and got to cooking.
I've made meals for 100-400 people on a regular basis of great food. And I count the covers by the steam table pans. 6 pans of a popular item that is like sweet potato casserole means about 200 people. (Give or take on fill)
Roasting and carving hot turkeys?
About 20 minutes to completely carve it down to bones. Faster if it's cooled enough to handle it.
Probably wouldn't need more than 5 pans of dressing for 200...it's not as popular.
But at least 5 gallons of gravy and least 3 Salad bowls of cranberry sauce. 300 rolls and off I go.

People are becoming apathetic, or I should say have become apathetic. My niece went to home depot a couple of months ago an had her hands full with her little ones, she saw an old gentleman fall and no one lifted a finger to help they were in line. My niece gave it to those people and a couple finally helped. People are stupid

Yes. They're also pathetic, selfish, lazy and indifferent to the suffering of others. Thank God not all people.
I know someone who goes to a local lake to fish now and then. Mostly he likes to visit with the homeless folk who gather there. They're the fortunate ones in that they are being sustained at a local motel, the manager is a pig, and the state pays their room fees. No maid service. Of course. And if they want fed the state comes by once in awhile.
So my friend goes and brings them food and visits.
Well, one of the older women there is infirm and has one of those little seat scooter type deals she rides on. She has medicare and was waiting to get placement in an elder care facility. In the meantime, if she'd have a medical episode, while at the hospital the other homeless would steal everything in her room, she had a roommate who could care less. And the manager because he claimed he thought she wasn't coming back, each and every time she was in the hospital, also took her things. Homeless stealing from homeless. Really?
Once when he was on his way to visit at the lake he noticed in the line of traffic ahead and on the shoulder of the roadway that that little lady in the wheel cart type thing had fallen over on her side. There she was laying on her side on the shoulder of one of the busiest highways in his area and not a single car slowed or stopped to help. Thank God he was on his way to visit and saw her.
So add to that list, evil as well as depraved.
Not that many years ago if someone was in a car accident the drivers nearby would pull over and be a witness for the victim. Not anymore.
I found that out personally. As did my best friend three years ago.
Evil, depraved, sorry, fallen, lost, narcissistic....sadly, the list is long.

My friend considers 400 people a cake walk. That's someone that was born to be a chef. Amazingly gifted.
It isn't possible for them to hunker down and get to cooking when the commander of the veterans club called for the closure.
I think he knew those volunteers were calling out because they just didn't want to work that hard. One after the other calling just a couple of minutes apart? Right.
But he's the type to be more prone to acting in the name of safety than to be sorry he was wrong.
Normally I'd say those lazy lying volunteers will have to live with themselves for ruining Thanksgiving for veterans and those vet's that count on holidays to eat well and have leftovers for later. However, with the way the world is now, if those folk had that kind of conscience they wouldn't have called out in the first place.
What a world.

Indeed. Because she was going to be cooking these next few days and there for Thanksgiving she didn't bother to store up for her own celebration at home. And doesn't plan to. So I'm surprising her with Thanksgiving dinner on the day. :) PUMPKIN PIEEEEEEE! All's well.And ye shall know them by their fruits... mm hmm..

I'm surprised public schools in America even bother to teach about the history of Thanksgiving today.
Blew my mind when I found out they don't teach cursive anymore.
What's next?
A woman I knew at a candle shop years ago was sharing about her shock at her daughter's level of "education" in public school.
The mom walks into her daughters room to check on how her homework is going. Picks up a book report written in long hand and starts reading. She said she told her daughter, you can't turn this in! The spelling errors are atrocious.
Her daughters answer? Oh mom, don't worry, I'll print it off on the printer after I use spell check.
Mom looks to the math homework laying under that paper. All again done long hand. More wrong answers than right.
Again she says to her daughter, you know you'll fail this assignment because most of your math is wrong.
The daughter? Oh mom, I was just practicing. I'll use the calculator before I turn the real copy in.
: No wonder they don't teach cursive.
