A little confused here, almost every Christian I encounter says we are the bride of Christ. Why is this, and please any scripture that supports this message is greatly appreciated.

John 3:29 KJV
[29] He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
Ok, far as I know John the Baptist only had one encounter with Jesus, in which he witnessed with others the Holy Spirit rest on Him. This suggests to me that the Holy Spirit is the bride.
John in revelation also gives a witness of this.

Revelation 21:2 KJV
[2] And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

The Baptist said he witnessed the bridegroom possessing the bride, how is it the church says this is a future event?

John 1:32-33 KJV
[32] And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. [33] And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

Here's one scripture you need to consider.

Ephesians 5:31-32

For this reason a man will leave
his father and mother
and be joined to his wife,
and the two will become one flesh.
This mystery is profound, but I am talking about Christ and the church.

Here's another:

2 Corinthians 11:1-4
I wish you would put up with a little foolishness from me. Yes, do put up with me. For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy, because I have promised you in marriage to one husband — to present a pure virgin to Christ. But I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may be seduced from a complete and pure devotion to Christ. For if a person comes and preaches another Jesus, whom we did not preach, or you receive a different spirit, which you had not received, or a different gospel, which you had not accepted, you put up with it splendidly!

Thanks for the response, but I still can’t seem to get any resolve how we can be the children born of God yet be the bride?

Jesus is called "Eternal Father" (Is 9:6) and our brother (Ro 8:29; Heb 2:11), and He is our betrothed. It doesn't make sense to the human mind, but it is what it is. I tend to take these things by faith. :)

Well, we are betrothed to His Son, bot to God . Pretty basic. What am I missing. i am curious though. Why is this a bone of contention for you? Something must be behind it unmentioned up til now, right?

blessings to you, dear brother,

I guess the contention would be that if the marriage has already taken place, I don’t want to not acknowledge it.
Jerusalem is the bride. We are the children/seed within her.

Hugs
has she not already descended?

So why is the church claim that the holy city descending a future event, when others have already witnessed it?

So Gid says we are betrothed, this would imply that Paul has betrothed is being he is the one that’s promised us to Jesus,

I guess my next question would be does this mean Paul is our Father, I don’t think so. the reason I ask is because by what authority does Paul make this promise, makes no since given he himself says he or Apolis are nothing.

Eze 12:2 Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house.

I'm thinking..
