"In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ."

I don't understand. Why are we tested? Wouldn't God already know the end result? Why do we have to get so stressed out?

When gold is heated, it is refined and purified. Have you ever noticed that when you're going through a fiery trial, nothing else matters but drawing closer to Jesus?

Romans 5:1-5 (KJV)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
¹ Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
² By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
³ And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
⁴ And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

I think this verse explains why fiery trials are necessary...

“I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.”
— Revelation 3:18 (KJV)

It's about allegiance Fluff. Anyone can mouth what they believe and who they believe in. Whether any of that is real only become evident when put under pressure. The litmus test as to whether any of those swelling words/claims has any substance is when it is tested.

Any rope will hold until it is tested. You're gonna stop smoking? let's see if you do....there's the test. Will you pull it off or are they just words?

The whole intelligent Universe (angels and more) are watching those who make claims for the Saviour.....who of all the talkers will shine as bone fide, who is the genuine article?

It takes rain as well as sunshine to cause a plant to bear its fruit and strong wind make trees stronger.

Sis, God knows our hearts....the testing is what reveals our hearts to US. Under fire, we discover things in our own hearts we didn't know were there. Things that don't look like Him. Once we know the hidden things in us....we can take those into His presence, repent, and let Him fix them

You are correct. God already knows the end result. He tests you so that YOU can know the end result. That's why Peter reminds us that testing is more valuable than gold. It gives US the assurance that indeed, we are one of his. Paul and James say the same thing. Romans 5:1-5, James 1:2-4.

Good question.

My pastor says quite often that if are not in the fire of the testing of our faith, we just came out or getting ready to go back in.

It's God taking us back to the Cross where we found life by faith in Him, depending on Him for everything.

If the believer had no testing of the faith, there would be no believers, we are constantly to rest by faith in dependence on Him.

The greater the faith, the greater the test! It reveals our weaknesses and prepares us for His coming as it regards the Rapture/Resurrection.

The Bible does teach that God knows the finish from the start. He does not try us maam Jas 1:13-15, we came under trials inherited by our original parents. In fact, we can take solace in the fact that He even protects us in our trials, as He will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear, and He will always make the way out for us. 1 Cor 10:13

God tests us because he loves us dearly and wants us to grow in grace and in the knowledge of him. This is why the Bible tells us we can rejoice when being tested. Being tested by God has been misunderstood by many. It is clear in the scriptures that God does test us.
Believers go through tests to build and strengthen their faith. Without believing in God, nothing is possible. Therefore, tests are the lot of God's children because they must be prepared for the things God desires them to accomplish.

Yes, yes!

I like to imagine that we have only scratched the surface of this here earth...

There's a whole Galaxy out there...and beyond...

...ha ha...

In my Bible study group it was said that the keeping of Torah (His Commands) is what is holding the world together and so I made the observation that this explains why there's no life on other planets...no one is there doing His Work and worshipping Him.

The Biblical account seems to suggest that things have suffered a set back, but it's a setback that is making us stronger and ready to embark upon an awesome and creative journey into the everreaches (yeah...new word) of a seemingly endless and terribly awesome space...!

He tests us for our benefit. It is for our growth. If he just let everything go and be perfect. we would never learn and when catastrophe happened it could actually weaken our faith so deep it could cause us to become prodigal children. Where our life will take a downward spiral.

Edit, I want to add he can also test us for the benefit of another. Where we are tested in an area in which another person will suffer the same. And God will use us to come along side them and help them in their time of need

I don’t know. James 1:12-17 seems to say it isn’t God who test us “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. [13] Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: [14] But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. [15] Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. [16] Do not err, my beloved brethren. [17] Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” ?

and although Jesus Christ was lead or driven in the wilderness by the Spirit, it says to be tempted of Satan. Just an opinion but did the Spirit lead Jesus Christ there to be tested of satan to choose evil, or to choose good?

Yet 1 John 4:1 says to “try the spirits whether they are of God” ...Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

It is a good question you’ve asked. Does God test or does satan? I don’t know but if God test is it not: to choose good and not evil. If satan, it is tempted to do evil and not good which brings forth death and not Life.

I would say that there is a difference between testing and temptation...the former being more objective (from outside, beyond our control) and the latter being from within (subjective).

Not that I believe we may control all of our subconscious processes, but as noted it is our "own lust and desires". For instance, this loner bike I have tapped out on me this morning on the way to work...through no fault of my own (well, I coulda put some WD40 on it...)...it's pretty much beyond my control like other people's behavior and such, though I guess I decide how to react (if I'm abiding in Him).

Hmmmmm....

*Good question...

makes me consider who is the accuser? Luke 23:12-14 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves. [13] And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, [14] Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:

John 5:45-47 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. [46] For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. [47] But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

John 8:5-9 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? [6] This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. [7] So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. [8] And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. [9] And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

Ongoing debate of what did he write on the ground...whatever it was he wrote on the ground ...miraculous “they heard” what was written on the ground where? Within ...what ground did he write on that they heard what he wrote within? Their conscience heard what was written. he speaks of “ground” even gives a parable of the difference in that ground where the word is sown.

Revelation 12:10-11 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. [11] And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Just thinking on the topic which is a good one but when “test” “tried” or “tempted” that it might be found unto the praise and glory of God in “the accuser of our brethren is cast (brought) down, which accused them before our God day and night.”

Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
After you are saved the salvation that you work out is the walk with Christ....that is life with Christ by your side.

Temptation is different from trials.

I think James said it best in chapter 1..

2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

While your right God will never tempt us to sin. He does place things in our life where we are forced to chose him or to chose our own way. Its no different than taking a practical exam in school, where you are tested for your knowledge, and these tests make you beeter prepaired to handle real life situations when you get out in the workforce.

I don't understand. Why are we tested?

Experience both reveals and builds character. Christianity would be easy if it weren't for all the SOB's in the world. That is, talk is cheap. Actually walking the walk is something to behold.

Also, I'm reminded of the parable of the 3 servants (Matthew 25:14-30), who were given little, found 2 trustworthy and the master confident they could handle more.

23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

God chastens us that we be made partakers of HIS holiness . That our faith does grow . He refines the lambs .
ALL things do work together for the good of those who love the LORD .
Now it sure dont seem joyous at the time but rather grievious , but is sure does and sure will yield the peaceable fruits of righteousness
unto those who do experience it . As peter would also say , Not only is it given on our behalf to BELEIVE IN HIM
but also to suffer for His name sake . OH just ponder on the GLORY that shall be revealed on HIS day .
And when persecuted , you rejoice . Rejoice that in mercy GOD is counting you worthy to suffer shame for the KINGDOM .
Now , leap up and let the LORD be praised . This life is but a vapor , oh but eternal life is forever .
Let the LORD be praised .
