Hi Aspen,

I was reading some of your posts to TexUs and you did an excellent job in explaining that from the Catholic viewpoint. One of the reasons I prefer the Douay-Rhimes is because that is the only Bible that uses the phrase "full of grace" in referring to Mary. And the Douay-Rhimes was an English translation from the Latin Vulgate, which was written in the 4th century. The Angel Gabriel did not call Mary by her name. The angel called her "Full of grace." She said, "Hail, Full of grace. The Lord is with thee."

In Christ,
Selene

Hello WhiteKnuckle,

Thank you for your input. I agree with you. :) Coming from the Asian-Pacific region, I know that bowing and worship are two different things. Chinese, Koreans, and Japanese children are taught to bow to their elders, but they are not worshipping their elders.

In Christ,
Selene

But when any people from these areas become a Christian, they will read in their Bibles about not bowing to the works of their hands. For those who love the Word of God, they will not bow to statues, nor will they venerate relics.

I don't see what pictures of feet have to do with anything. Can you clarify their importance, again, Anastacia?

Just showing a picture of the feet too. There is a story behind those feet, but I decided not to get into the story.

Wow....it would be so great to know the languages too.

No matter how many languages one knows....doesn't mean one will know the Truth.

She has pictures of feet, and at the bottom of the picture, she makes the claim that Catholics kiss the feet of dead saints. Of course, you don't see her publish any pictures of any Catholic kissing the feet of those dead saints nor any pictures of them bowing to dead saints. Her words at the bottom does not match the pictures.

No, you figured it wrong. Again, there is a story behind the feet, but I decided not to get in to the story. These decayed bodies are in glass caskets, so the actual body is not kissed, yet some kiss the container of the remains.

Yeah, I mean, I saw the text, I just mean that I don't see what it has to do with much of anything, even if they do kiss the feet. Is it for any reason other than simply to show "shocking" images (which are really far from shocking; people die and bodies change over time, there is nothing horrifying about it) in lieu of actually formulating an argument? I mean, I'm a vegan, but I don't get what PETA expects to do with those pictures they put up, either. I know people say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but I see pictures used a lot when people can't use even a few. It's a cheap tactic that relies on a socially constructed "yuck" factour, not on His words or reasoning.

It is right to expose the teachings of the Catholic church. You can't admit that you have learned something about the Catholic church from my postings?

Anastacia, you win the award for being the most argumentative Christian on earth! Congratulations!

Really? You think I would win that award? I haven't been arguing in this thread very long. Just when I think there is nothing more to tell you....I find more to inform others about.

Acts 19:8 Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. [sup]9[/sup] But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them.

Anastacia!

Why such hostility to the Catholic church and its teachings? Can't you jsut lvie and let live?

The idea of this trhead is to help debunk the myths people have about he RCC, to set the record straight so to speak but you seem to be using it as a chance to belittle the bcherished beliefs of others.

Selene, I know.

Many Orthodox churches are national chruches like the Church of England or Luthernan churches in Scandinavia, (well a little bit anwyay, since they hae an archbishop who is the head as opposed to a king or queen like we have)

Are you familiar with the Maronites? I'm going to look into them further when I have the chance. There are also Orthodox monastries in Italy that have been part of the RCC since the 15th century when Constantinople fell to the Turks. They keep their liturgy and they worship the way they always have but they are very much a part of the RCC.

have you ever been to an orthodox Divine Liturgy Selene?
I went to one ocne, the servie as about 2 hours and you have to stand for the whole time. There are no prayer books for the congregation as they are expected to memorise the response and key prayers and th e priests celebrate the Eucharist twice; once of teh choire and then again for the congregation. The choir was amazing though, the best I've ever heard, very angelic. Oh and the women all covered their heads, just like St Paul say's. The service itself as in a mixture of English and Greek, the priest was an ex-Anglican who was trying to convert me and left with with the words, "remember the Holy Spirit comes straight from the Father, no the Father and the Son." "Ok Padre," I thought, "you said tomaeto I say tomarto." funnily enough, our modern english liturgy, "Common worship," actually contains the Orthodox version of the Nicene Creed for use in Eccumenical services where Orthodox Christians are present.

Also, just out of interest Selene! Hve you ever used the Athenasian creed?

Reading how you and the other Catholics talk about the Catholic religion....it reminds me of all the pride that one gets when they become a Catholic. After leaving the Catholic church, and after one grows in the Lord, the pride once felt will leave a believer, and one will be only disgusted at the blatant disregard for the Truth the Catholics have.

Anastacia!

You say "can't you just live and let live?"---that is a Pagan slogan. And being saved by the Truth, that is real life.

You say "this thread is to help debunk the myths people have about the RCC.."---that's what I've been doing.

Once again, Anastacia

What you are doing here is strengthening the faith of all the catholics present, demonstrating that anticatholic attitudes and material are ugly, and that there really is a wrong way to witness to people. I know what love is - what you are doing is not love, but akin to clanging a gong.

Even non-catholics have noticed the animosity and hatred in your posts and called you on it, but you choose to deny, deny, and deny........

I don't care at all if it is a Pagan slogan and it really makes no difference wether it is or not.

Christians need to be able to live and let live so that they forget the differences between denominations in favour of what all christians have in common.

You can say I'm big on Eccumenicalism if you want, I would agree because I believe strongly in Christian unity and I don't care in the slgihtest if a pagan slogan sumns up my way fo thinking.

That is your prideful fight in you that says I'm just strengthening the faith of all Catholics present. And you see it wrong and call it anti Catholic, but it is exposing darkness. The Bible tells us "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them." Ephesians 5:11.

The Bible also tells believers that we will be hated. So, it does not surprise me what you say about non Catholics. And just because someone is non Catholic, that doesn't mean they know Jesus.

You say you know what love is. I do not see how you know what true love is when you reject what the Truth says. You deny and do many things God says not to do. The Bible says "Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart." 1 Peter 1:22. But you haven't purified your self by obeying the truth.....you deny what the Truth says.

You could justify anything, Anastacia.

Just know that your attempts to hijack this thread - because that is exactly what you are trying to do - will fail. Starve the Troll, everyone.

- The quote you chose states Argue Persuasively, but many on here dont feel you have - instead you have shifted, moved, twisted around and manipulated the thread to help assist your very strong anti-Catholic feeling.
I dont feel you have been open minded at all, and have said many offensive things against us, wherein you have told us what we think, how we are so wrong, how right you are, and spent a long time on bowing, bones and poor Mary!

That is not the same thing as arguing persuasively - one has to be open minded to other peoples views to do that.
And you are far from open minded. You are certain that you know it all.

You can falsely call me any names you want, and you can ignore me and not post to me all you want, actually that will be good, because all you say to me is false things anyway. I will still post things that I think others should know.

Templar - very well put, fellow Christian!

All that Anast has actually Exposed is his/her own short sightedness and hostility.

Looks like you came here to falsely accuse me of what you are guilty of.

As for you not thinking I argue persuasively----the people apostle Paul argued to probably think he didn't either.

Once again, so well put. Let us hope that reason, respect and empathy will win the day over cutting snide remarks, obsessive, negative attention to detail and a holier than thou righteious pious approach of I Am Right, You Are Wrong!

Interesting, but how would you explain the Trinity mcorba?

Strangely enough, it was one of the concepts I didnt struggle with understanding or accepting when younger!

I simply see it as God the Father, Son & Holy Spirit - succinct and elegantly poised phrase I feel.

3 in one. There is so much that we dont understand about the ways of existence/God...
we are here in our simple
dimension, with the restraints of time and material things, so the trinity concept is somewhat out of our full cognitive scope, perhaps?
