There are different views as to when the day of the Lord begins. Some place the day of the Lord mid tribulation, but I contend it is quite clear based on one passage of scripture that the day of the Lord is at the coming of Christ to the earth.

[Joel 2:30-32 KJV] 30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. 32 And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

This verse alone is enough to decide that the day of the Lord cannot come until Joel 2 is fulfilled. Joel says the day of the Lord cannot come until all the celestial events in verse 31 occur.

[Revelation 6:12-17 KJV] 12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

At the opening of the sixth seal the sun becomes black and the moon as blood just as said in Joel. The great day of Christ's wrath has come which is the day of the Lord.

[Isaiah 13:9-10 KJV] 9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. 10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

Isaiah states that at the day of the Lord the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

[Matthew 24:29-30 KJV] 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Matthew says that immediately after the tribulation the sun shall be darkened, and the stars shall fall from heaven in verse 29. The sixth seal also says in Revelation 6:13 that the stars of heaven fell at the day of the Lord.
Matthew says the moon shall not give her light in verse 29. Isaiah 13:10 says the moon shall not cause her light to shine at the day of the Lord.
The day of the Lord occurs right after the tribulation at the return of the Lord Jesus.

The apostles were writing in the EASTERN style of writing. One of those styles was called parallelisms. Here is an example regarding the day of the Lord.

1 Corinthians 1:
7 so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

What I highlighted in black is the parallel. The words with it replicate each other. Therefore "the revelation" is the same as "the day."

Here is another one that will completely baffle us westerners that rely on interpretations of scripture by man. Grace being not favor, but UNMERITED favor which produced the heresy of grace being a license to sin, and the blood of Jesus COVERS our sins as we keep sinning. When in reality Scripture says that Jesus TAKES AWAY our sins.

Acts 4:33
33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.

This teaches us that grace is the power of God. The blood of Jesus has the power to change our character/nature from a sin nature into a nature that partakes of the divine nature of God. 2 Peter 1:4

Very few Christians know that we have only one nature. Either a sin nature that goes back to after Adam sinned that brought death to our spirit, or the new creature that Jesus brings us back to when we were first created, but also with the Spirit of God indwelling us - the power of God to be righteous, and as we remain abiding in Christ can mature us to holiness.

Hi Doug,

Do you consider the difference between a moon that gives a red colored light, and a moon that gives no light? I consider these to be two different celestial event, one at the beginning of the 70th week, the other at the end, at Jesus' coming in power and glory.

Much love!

Yes a red moon is not the same as a dark moon but they are both described as events that take place at the day of the Lord.

Thanks for the reply I was wondering about the moon not being red and I missed this verse thanks again

The main focus of the Israelites was God's "Promised Land" and as such their understanding is around their "land" whereas in verse Isaiah 13:9 God focus was on the salvation of all of the people of the whole "earth" whether on land or on the seas. As such verse 9 should read: -

"Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the earth desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

On that day there shall be so much smoke and dust in the air that the sun will appear to be darkened and the light from the moon will not be able to be seen, and the faint lights of the stars and constellations will also not even be seen through all of the smoke and dust in the air/shy.

For me these two verses are talking about the initial separation of one flock from another flock, which is the first separation of the peoples of the earth which occurs. towards the end of the completion of the seventh Age. Daniel even tells us that even the dead at this time will be raised up to be judged.

Verse 9 implies a very small entity portion of the whole earth, like the land of Canaan, which the Israelites had possession for a small period of time before they were scattered by God to the four corners of the whole earth where He had intended them to live so that when he began drawing them to Himself, that they would once again enter into the Kingdom of Priest, a Holy Nation and His Possession among the Nations Covenant to teach the Gentiles living around them, where they would be living scattered throughout the whole earth, about God's generosity for all of mankind should they accept His free gift to them.

In 1948, some of Abraham's descendants returned to this small entity portion of the whole earth in their own strength in the hope that they would be able to rekindle their relationship with God. The evidence so far is that this has not happened and that the visitation of the iniquities of the fathers is still being felt by the children's children until the completion of the fourth age of the existence of the nation of Israel. It is my understanding that the completion of fourth age of the nation of Israel will occur in around 20 years' time which, I believe Jesus indicated to His disciples and is recorded in the gospels record of the Mt Olivett discourse. Understanding when this will occur can be determined from just one verse, like Matt 24:31, which links when the fig tree, i.e. Israel, begins to bud leaves once more, when they returned to the Land of Canaan in 1948, and the time span from that event to when the fourth Age of Israel's existence comes to its completion.

The cross was for all of the people of the whole earth and not just for a small land entity portion of the whole earth.

We need to be able to comprehend God's Big Picture of His Salvation Plan for all of the people of the whole earth.

Shalom

Another sign of when this will occur, is the gathering of the Kings of the earth to the place called Armageddon to be judged for the parts that they played in league with the Little Horn to trample God's sanctuary and His Earthly Hosts.

you could argue and give time to this question but what does it benefit? Instead, obey God and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. when the time comes it comes. if you accepted Christ and made Him Lord over your life then you are ready for whenever it happens.

Why spending you life trying to find out when you will die, instead spend time living!

God thought it worthwhile to detail it in scripture for our knowledge but we shouldnt dwell on it exclusively

He gave us a glimpse through symbolism of what will happen. Jesus will return and judge and pass judgement and there will be new eternal home for HIS children and another one for those that rejected Him. But even in the details John was forbidden to write everything. Rev 10:4

There is plenty of detail on how to worship and please God more than there is about when and how judgement will come. As a child of God I won't ever face that judgement.

It is when Christ returns as a thief. Christ returns at a time when people do not expect.
Lots of events will happen on that Day.
Resurrection, Judgment, sudden destruction, and a new earth and new heaven will all happen on that DAY.

I view it as a day. It won't take any long time to do any of that.
There is a buildup to that DAY, which takes like 3.5 years, some say 7 of various events occurring which comes beforehand.
The apostles teach it is a time of sudden destruction; Peter adds in a creation where God makes all things new.

2 Peter 3

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be [d]burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

1 Thessalonians 5
But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be [a]sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.
