A man of God is forgiven of his sins when he truly repents and asks. The idea is for us to to our absolute best to strive to live the perfect life. All fall short of the glory, but that doesn't mean you go out and sin for sin's sake because you aren't perfect.The best way to live your life according to Scripture is to know Scripture. This is the letter that God gave us to help keep our lives in order.II Timothy 3:15-16
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Romans 3:20-26
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Love God and resist temptations."For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God," (2 Timothy 3:2-4)

You are right none of us are perfect, which will then always remind us that we need jesus christ as our saviour, but we can be on a journey where we desire to become more like Him each day.
Well, You don't want to be like the Pope who had said "Kill them All, God will know who are His." Ouch.
