Is it unusual for Mormons to advertise that aggressively?
I once borrowed an audiobook from the library that featured Tovia Singer.
He was to explain the teachings in the Old Testament.
He started out describing what some see as contradiction in the creation of humans chapters in Genesis. Two differing accounts. His learned explanation was simply to say,
" that's just how people talked back then."
I turned the car around and returned the audiobook to the library.
There is a video interview where Tovia Singer encapsulates what he sees as the error in Christianity.
He said, Christianity makes God into our image and likeness. And was invented by Paul.
Whereas Judaism realizes we are made in the image of God.
He has a lot of videos on the Net. It's strange that a Rabbi focuses on refuting our faith rather than focusing on teaching his own.
Yes I think what the Mormons is doing is very unusual. I don't think anybody is doing this sort of thing.
Tovia Singer was the Founder of "Jews for Judaism", and a few other more recent organizations that are aimed at trying to make traditional Jews resistant to Christian missionary efforts. Yeah I'm not surprised that you would want to return the audio book. Tovia is really interesting character. On one hand he is very knowledgeable, he has been known to get the better of Christian street preachers by quoting the Old Testament prophets and making his claims against Christianity. But this one convert from Orthodox Judaism, Ash Maiz calls him "a snake" and rightfully so. Tovia like a propagandist likes to tell only the side of the story that makes his case and carefully admit things that would benefit the other side. The problem with this, which is basically lying by omission, is he at times throws the older Orthodox Judaism under the bus in his efforts to try discredit Christianity. This kind of thing though is not new, other folks leaving Orthodox Judaism for Christianity noticed the same thing. That Christian claims, theology fit older Judaism out of the 2nd Temple times, to early Talmudic era, while much of Orthodox Judaism is built on theology from the middle ages (Rashi) to modern times. And there are lots of ironies to that, like them claiming Christianity is paganized, Hellenized, when they adopt a view of the Fall of mankind making it allegory about human nature (Philo of Alexandria) rather than the fall from grace notions we got of Adam and Eve literally tempted by the Devil and the need for a savior.
