Hebrews 12:6-7,

6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Does law living keep you out of the father's schoolhouse or from going through correction? I grew up with a Holiness background from childhood. Preachers correcting you was the message, the gospel of Holiness (correction). The harder they peached against everyone and everything the louder the people shouted. The only thing wrong with that type message is; it's not the gospel and not a single one of them could live it. I knew them all and there were some good people in the bunch, but the bottom line is the preacher ran off with the secretary, she left her husband for the preacher. Not to mention what goes on in everyday life with those that profess such a walk.

It happens in all setting and arenas of life. If you think about it you would not be where you are at today if you didn't have such a background as you have. I mention it for writing purposes only not to pick on anyone or to think they would be any less than anyone else for their actions. So what you have been through can be invaluable to your growth. What you have done or seen should be for you a stepping stone in your understanding.

Understanding what the father has done in creation is the ultimate goal in Christianity. Grace, as mentioned before, will be the hardest yet the best thing to ever happen to you. To answer the question? Does the law keep you from the father's schoolhouse? The answer is no, nothing keeps you out of the schoolhouse, the world is a schoolhouse. Look at it like this; it is the HolySpirit school of training for son's, you don't want to miss that.

So how does the father handle his children in the schoolhouse? Like a good father does, a wayward child will recieve his correction. That is all part of the training though, I understand we all want to be the great son that the father is proud of, but you will error in your ways. It will be ok, your in good hands. Someone asked! Well how does he handle a child that just stays in rebellion? That child will stay in some form of correction untill they can make a quality decision not to live in rebellion. The schoolhouse has it's masters and they are not afraid to use their authority over the child, for that childs good.

We no longer live in an age when church attendance and moral behaviour was administered by the church or by the state.
All that produced was an outward show of respectability.

How does God discipline his children? If they are listening through his word or through the message in church.

For those who aren't listening? I have no idea.
CS Lewes wrote that pain was Gods road blocks on the way to hell.

The Word as per Hebrews 4.12 needs indeed to challenge and transform us inwardly:

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

Hi Windmillcharge,

We always will listen to something. I remember something else CS Lewis wrote, something like, God whispers in our pleasures, speaks in our every day, but shouts in our pain.

Much love!

The thread is about God disciplining his people.

I was commenting on not knowing how God disciplines those people who are not listening to God.

I know too many people who will not listen to God even when in great pain.

I myself find that TRYING to listen to God's voice when in pain is next to impossible. The pain screams so loudly His voice is drowned out!!

It takes much overcoming to get the soul quiet enough to hear His voice above the storm.

Just my experience.

Don't tell me, tell marks who suggested this idea.

Hebrews 12
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

Chastening - training as one trains a child - is grievous, whether physical pain, or something else. Some kind of hardship.

Exercised here is a perfect tense passive voice verb, what that means is that this is done to someone, not that they do it for themselves. God excercises us, which is literally training like in a gym, and this does produce it's intended result.

"Afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness."

What I've found is that my pain and other physical distress taught me reliance on God, and showed to me much more the depth of His love.

Much love!
