Why Did John Say He Did Not Know His Cousin, Jesus?

The testimony of John the Baptist is a major theme in the first few chapters of John's Gospel. See John 5:33-35. John is a major witness to Jesus' true identity as Messiah and Son of God. So I don't think John is saying (in John 1:31), "This guy is a complete stranger." He's talking about the...

    Prince Andrew

I am a (retired) doctor, and I have a brain - that's why I've had all three doses of the Covid vaccine. As have the vast majority of doctors in this country.

    Prince Andrew

Why? He isn't a professional diplomat and doesn't come under the diplomatic service. Why ever not? In fact, as far as I'm aware they've all had it. Not sure what the general opinion is but I don't think many people would support any member of the royal family regardless of what they did. Most...

Why mRNA vaccines are so dangerous -- the science

There's just one problem with that statement. He's not the inventor of the covid vaccine. So if that's a lie, how can you or I trust his so-called warning?

Why mRNA vaccines are so dangerous -- the science

Can't say I have. The statistics speak volumes: hospitalisation rates have plummeted in vaccinated people.

Why mRNA vaccines are so dangerous -- the science

No vaccine or medical treatment is free from risk, but this must be weighed against the benefits (which in the case of these vaccines are substantial). Accurate data is essential for assessing risk. VAERS data should not be used for this purpose because only a small proportion of the cases...

Do any one use bible reading plans?

    The whole plan is an enormous document - but if I just give you the readings for this month you'll get the idea. January 1 Genesis 1:1-5 2 Genesis 1:6-25 3 Genesis 1:26-31 4 Genesis 2:1-17 5 Genesis 2:18-25 6 Psalm 1 7 Genesis 3:1-15 8 Genesis 3:16-19 9 Genesis 3:20-4:7 10 Genesis 4:8-26 11...

Do any one use bible reading plans?

I've followed a Bible reading plan for over 40 years. I started with a leaflet I bought from a Christian bookshop, which went through the Bible in a year. But I didn't like it, because it hadn't been well thought out; the readings in the last few months were much longer than the earlier ones, in...

    Covid booster

No, it's a reference to his alibi. He wasn't there (wherever "there" was) because he was ordering a pizza in Woking at the time.

    King James Version Only...?

The morning star is just another name for the planet that we call Venus. Anyone who is determined to identify the morning star with Jesus every time it's mentioned appears to believe that Jesus is the planet Venus. (And of course Lucifer - in Latin - is also a name of the planet Venus, so the...

    King James Version Only...?

No, my Bible doesn't have the word "Lucifer" at all. The devil's name is Satan, not Lucifer. Lucifer was the Latin astronomical name for the morning star; we call it Venus, so why not translate it as Venus in Isaiah 14:12? It would make just as much sense! It's by no means certain that the...
  12. Deborah_

    King James Version Only...?

That's because Lucifer IS the morning star. "Lucifer" is not in the original Hebrew text, which says (literally) "Shining star, son of the morning". The name Lucifer must have got there in the Latin translation (Lucifer being the name of the morning star in Latin) - and from that it came to be...

    King James Version Only...?

Oh, it is! There are some verses that I could quote from the KJV (well-known ones that I probably picked up from school assemblies). But not whole chunks.
  14. Deborah_

    King James Version Only...?

Of course I can! The version that lodges in the memory is the one that you have most exposure to.

    King James Version Only...?

Amen! I had a KJV as a child but struggled to read it at all (despite being a very good reader). I remember not understanding why 'Noah' was spelt 'Noe', and wondering if it was a different person! As a teenager I started reading the Good News translation and became a Christian through it!

    King James Version Only...?

Really? I quote the NIV from memory all the time, because it's the version I've been using for 40+ years.

Please Argue with me about Head Coverings

I don't think so. In I Corinthians 11, Paul is talking about women who pray or prophesy in church, and these are not authoritative behaviours. (Prophecy isn't authoritative because it should be subjected to the judgement of the whole congregation).

    Covid booster

He definitely has a case to answer. I just refuse to pre-judge the outcome.
  19. Deborah_

    Covid booster

No, I just feel it a duty to correct misconceptions - like the idea that the Queen is all-powerful.

    Covid booster

I don't know where you get the idea from that he's in hiding. Personally I don't follow the royal family so I don't care where he is, but a quick google turned up a photo of him taken the week before Christmas, when he was driving around Windsor (close to where he lives). He hasn't even been...
