How many baptisms are there? Just one

In Ephesians, Paul identifies just one baptism: 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. However, it was recently pointed out in...

What is the initial evidence of the Baptism with the Holy Spirit?

I have had the same question. My best attempt at reconciling it follows... (I'm allowed to quote myself, right?) I wrote that about 9 years ago. Today I might quibble with a few word choices... mostly how I've written it so certainly. Its more of a theory... I'm not 100% certain. I DO think...

What is the initial evidence of the Baptism with the Holy Spirit?

I'm not sure it's supposed to be that way. I think the two things are supposed to happen at the same time. That seems to be how it happens in the New Testament anyway. There are also a couple instances there as well where the baptism happens first. Act 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that...

"The heavens and the earth" were "created"--"WITHOUT FORM."

The devil is the "accuser of the brethren." The idea here is like a courtroom. There's the accused (people), the Judge (God), the prosecuting attorney (the devil), and the defense (Jesus). The prosecuting attorney doesn't accuse the Judge. He accuses us!

Are you sending your neighbors to Hell?

Well... the Bible contains multiple genres of literature. Recognizing what genre you're reading is important to understanding it. The genre we call History didn't exist till the 5th century BC. That doesn't make the things written before that false, but it does mean that if you're reading...

"The heavens and the earth" were "created"--"WITHOUT FORM."

I like a couple of your phrases here - "living parables" and "follow suit" hit at the core of it, I think.

"The heavens and the earth" were "created"--"WITHOUT FORM."

If one takes the English translation completely literally, then they are missing quite a bit... https://www.christianityboard.com/threads/god-created-the-world-out-of-monsters.63272/

Reader Poll - Bible Reading - BEFORE or AFTER you became a Christian?

I chose OTHER... As someone who grew up in a Christian home, I find it hard to nail down the timing of when-did-I-become-a-Christian. I grew up in an environment where of-course-we-followed Christian rules and morality... that was simply part of the identity of my family. Do you count...

Are you sending your neighbors to Hell?

Do you consider all genres of literature other than history to be false?

Are you sending your neighbors to Hell?

Nobody has made an argument that Jesus lied. I'm not sure why you keep harping on it, other than it's an easy argument to make. The literal part... maybe? Jesus made an allusion to a well-known story. He didn't say the story was historical. (It is pre-historical so that would have been...

Are you sending your neighbors to Hell?

What if His statement IS true, but you're making some bad assumptions based on it? Where does that put us?

Are you sending your neighbors to Hell?

I guess I can check 'get insulted by a random guy on the internet' off my bingo card for the day. Seriously, you don't know me even a little bit. Why go out of your way to be unpleasant?

The good the bad, and the rest

If you're answering yes, it's probably because you've been trained to answer questions in a binary way - yes or no. If you were trying to answer accurately, "sometimes" or "usually" seem closer to the truth.

Are you sending your neighbors to Hell?

Good one! I'm not sure it proves your point, though. I could say to you, "haven't you read how Jack and Jill went up the hill? Therefore, watch thy noggin!" Clearly that wouldn't make Jack and Jill real people, though. :phew: Also, we've been having a discussion about how Jesus and His...

Uh... where? I only see the word Adam once in the gospels, and it's part of Luke's genealogy

The slander against the faithful apostle Paul

I think he's referring to the verse after, rather than before: 1Co 7:7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. Clearly everyone cannot be celibate - the human race would end.

The opening post basically wanted to brand a scarlet letter on half the forum members... I assume it's so they can properly look down on them.
