What is the correct view on genesis

But I can't see anything in Genesis 1:1 that commands us to "take it literally". One can be utterly convinced that God created everything in the universe, and yet still regard the creation account in Genesis 1 as poetic rather than historically literal. And when I say 'poetic', I do not mean...

Another Merry god Incarnated Baby Born Celebration?

I don't want to step into your logic, since you obviously don't know what you're talking about. "John was a Judahite and did not converse or mix with the Greek culture or their language." Not true! John was from Galilee, and was probably bilingual. By the time he wrote his gospel he was an old...

What is the correct view on genesis

There isn't a simple answer to that question. Genesis is a complex book with different sections. It contains stories and genealogies. It was also written a very long time ago, when people had a very different concept of 'history' to ours, and no concept of science at all. The easiest parts of...

Another Merry god Incarnated Baby Born Celebration?

If we carry through that logos/ word is say the ‘divine expression’ or purpose or plan of God and is an ‘it’ right Why do you start by making such a narrow definition of 'logos'? And the fact that it is an 'it' is no more relevant than the word 'rock' being an it - it can still be a description...

How do you hear the "still, small, voice"?

But I've learned that I can't force God to speak to me. There is no 'secret' or technique - in fact, almost every time He has spoken to me, it's been in a different way. The danger with 'how-to-do-it' instructions is that we can end up misinterpreting our own thoughts for God's voice. I suspect...

How do you hear the "still, small, voice"?

I hear from God when He wants to speak to me. Which isn't nearly as often as I would like.

Another Merry god Incarnated Baby Born Celebration?

How can the word the Greek transliterated word 'logos' mean a person, let alone Jesus?!! I just get chirping crickets all the time and yet they will defend that 'logos' means Jesus to the end. Presumably you have the same problem with all the Old Testament Scriptures that describe God as a...

    Gender neutral Bible

The fact is that nobody knows why so many languages classify their nouns by gender. It isn't anything to do with perceived male or female characteristics. Why should 'table' be feminine in French yet masculine in German? In our modern day we don't give female names just to cars, but to all...

    Genuinely Confused About Prayer

Prayer isn't about getting the "right" result. Obviously, in a case like this, you do want your relative to get well. But there's absolutely no way you can 'pressurise' God or twist His arm... All we can do is ask. There's no magic formula. Just keep asking. God loves you and your family -...

    Gender neutral Bible

'Anthropos' means 'person' (gender unspecified). Greek has a separate, specific word ('aner') for a male person.

Did people receive the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues? Or did they speak in tongues ....?

So make your mind up. If they had already received the Spirit on hearing the tongues, why would they need to receive Him again through repentance?
  12. Deborah_

    Gender neutral Bible

It depends what is meant by "gender neutral". In most cases (e.g. the most recent NIV) it is specifically translated to reflect the reality of the Hebrew and Greek - e.g. not translating the gender-neutral word 'anthropos' as 'man'.

Did people receive the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues? Or did they speak in tongues ....?

As I pointed out, it is not in line with Acts 2:38

Did people receive the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues? Or did they speak in tongues ....?

This interpretation doesn't make sense. If those who heard the apostles received the Holy Spirit (and the gift of interpretation) just through hearing the tongues, why did Peter then tell them that they would receive the Holy Spirit when (and if) they were baptised as followers of Jesus (Acts...

Why isn't the shroud of turin in the bible

According to John's Gospel, there was a separate cloth wrapped around Jesus' head (John 20:7). The shroud of Turin is all in one piece. I saw an interesting article about the Shroud many years ago, pointing out that in the image of 'Jesus' the arms are unnaturally long, and that one of the...

    Jesus!

"No-one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ." (I Corinthians 3:11)

Doe's God Destroy The Sole ???

In this particular passage, God's "temple" refers to a church, not to an individual (the 'you' in verses 16,17 is plural). So it's talking about the serious consequences of damaging a church (by false teaching and suchlike), not suicide.

    Your favorite Psalm?

Not really. There are too many that I like to select one or two.

    Jesus!

And this footnote is supposed to establish an entire false doctrine? Only in your imagination. Petros/Petra is a word-play - Peter couldn't be Petra in Greek because Petra is feminine and Peter is a man. And didn't you notice that your quote from Strong's Concordance says: "Peter, a Greek name...
