How a Skeptical Philosopher Becomes a Christian

I'm sorry, but if you have to post a 14,000 word essay to get your point across, I'm just really not interested. Besides, anyone can open a bible and read Genesis. It's kind of a litmus test.

    It's a funny thing...

Because I believed there was a chance I was wrong about people. I know now that I wasn't. I don't wish to discuss it further.

    I was replying to you.

I don't care anymore. The people of this world don't deserve to be saved. I'm finished pretending otherwise.

A little like looking for a black cat in a dark room, eh?

Isn't that organization run by the doofus that thinks humans and dinosaurs lived together? He's right though. If you take Genesis literally, there's no room for evolution.

Critical thinking and education is linked to loss of faith

But how could Eve think critically if those skills were never developed? You can hardly blame her. For all intents and purposes, both of these people had the minds of children.

Because I was raised to not believe in such things. It's not like flipping a switch. Like Rambo one said, "you can't just turn it off". Sure. But this is the word of God we're talking about here. It should be accurate.

    I have not.

They haven't told me anything. Not really. It's always sort of an on again, off again, kind of thing. Some days, I believe in it. Other days, I absolutely do not. It makes it very difficult to lay down roots, so to speak.

Many Christians would disagree and cite the resurrection as proof of his divinity. I agree. They had the advantage of having been alive when Jesus walked the earth. But why wouldn't hey know more than Moses? Obviously Moses didn't know about the existence of dinosaurs either. I think it...

What about when he stands before the people and says, "Before Abraham, I am."? It has not been proven. If it were, there would be no need for faith. I agree. The thing is, why does he believe it if it's written by fallible human beings and is therefore, subject to error? For example, you don't...

Jesus asks us to be humble, not a "born again" snob

I think many Christians are afraid to doubt. Think about all the people in history that were certain about something. Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Jim Jones, etc. Think of all the death and destruction that level of certainty caused. In less extreme examples, we can observe the number of Christians...

Jesus asks us to be humble, not a "born again" snob

No demons are required. It is my belief that imposing eternal punishments for finite crimes is evil. It's very much something a human being would dream up in order to scare people. Just look at Islam. They also use the concept of hell to keep people in line. The thing is, it doesn't sound like...

Jesus asks us to be humble, not a "born again" snob

Eternal torment for not believing something. Are you really suggesting that human beings have a higher code of ethics than God? We used to burn people alive for all sorts of stupid reasons. Then we realized it was morally reprehensible and stopped doing it. Eternal punishments for finite...

Why belief in a god is an unfalsifiable claim that serves no purpose

I was taught critical thinking at a very young age. We had good teachers in the 90's. Apparently I've also been denied entry into the rest of the forum. So I guess I'll just be sticking around here for a while longer.

Why belief in a god is an unfalsifiable claim that serves no purpose

His words seem like deception to me. If one doesn't believe in the scientific consensus on evolution, then just say so. Instead he cloaks it in this sort of word salad, about not trusting in his own thinking.

Why belief in a god is an unfalsifiable claim that serves no purpose

If he can't trust his own thinking, how did he function day to day?

I hate myself, and hate being an atheist.

Only if they say that it was a waste. Some do when they get older. The longer you live, the more you lose. It's enough to make a man bitter.

Ah, okay. Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to pray for me. You bet. Likewise, friend.
