How the idea of Immortal Soul got into the Church

I gather the point of Melchizedek having no end or beginning to his days is a play on a technicality because his genealogical record seems to be missing. I didn't think they actually thought he was still alive, but who knows honestly. However, why couldn't 1 John 5:13 actually happen? Is it that...

How the idea of Immortal Soul got into the Church

I doubt Melchizedek is actually still alive right now. I was thinking of 1 John 5:13 for example. 1 John 5 13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Bibliolatry: Worship/knowledge of the book MORE than the author

That's a good point, but why did they also change Yeshua's name? His name isn't actually Jesus. Is it possible he hates being called that?

How the idea of Immortal Soul got into the Church

There's probably enough room to assign a theological definition to eternal life in a way that it doesn't necessarily refer to immortality. However, the text book definition of eternal life should be equal to immortality or it would be possible that all of the promises of eternal life would only...

More on the deity of Christ

If we can't discuss it outright then let the Bible make your arguments for you. John 17 1When Jesus had spoken these things, He lifted up His eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may glorify You. 2For You granted Him authority over all people, so...

How the idea of Immortal Soul got into the Church

The immortality of the soul is a curious thing because it pre-supposes that eternal life is not conditional on the gospel. Why would one need the gospel if their soul is already immortal? I believe this doctrine undermines Christianity.

How the idea of Immortal Soul got into the Church

It was possibly created to help support the other false doctrine of eternal conscious torment. There are several false doctrines prominent in Catholicism and Protestantism that are not present in Judeo-Christian theology. Why they did it is speculative at best. Could have been a tool to help...

The Character of God - Reader Poll

I think it's one of those things in which God changes toward someone depending on their disposition to Him. This probably requires interaction with God and cross referencing that experience with the Bible.

God the Father,God the Son,God the Holy Spirit are ONE!!!

On the matter of oneness with God the Father, Jesus prayed that his disciples would not only be one with each other, but also one with the Father and himself in the same way Jesus is. This refers to ontological oneness, not Peter becoming John or John becoming Peter nor the son becoming his...

    Understanding the GodHead.

For me, what Jesus said is enough. Provided that he said the Father is the only true God, he never taught anyone to pray to himself and never taught anyone to worship himself then that seems clear. It's possible people are coming at the Bible from different approaches. When I first started...

The Bible also speaks of God's children being His offspring in the general sense because there are two different sides to this coin. What's your take on people being both adopted and offspring at the same time and in what sense?

    Understanding the GodHead.

It's true that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God and that makes him unique, but on the other hand there are also many children of God. What status do the various sons/daughters of God have?

Thanks, but I just wanted to see if you thought it was literal like you do with John 1:1. I just wanted to see if you would agree or try to explain it all away. I think you have a heavy Trinitarian bias or at least a heavy bias toward the alleged deity of Jesus because you had previously said...

    Understanding the GodHead.

Not to interrupt, but, if I may, would you consider 1 John 1:1-3 literal? John departed from his narrative concerning the Word in John 1:1. He wrote about the Word, not as a personal being, but as a thing. What do you think? 1 John 1 (KJV) 1That which was from the beginning, which we have...

    Understanding the GodHead.

The Father is stated to be a distinct individual from the Son in Trinitarian thought. In Trinitarian thought, each of the three are God, yet not three Gods, but one God. While these sorts of statements can be found in creeds, they cannot be found in the Bible. A statement contrary to the...

    Understanding the GodHead.

How can Jesus be the creator when God didn't speak in the past through the Son, but only spoke through him in these last days, contrary to the Bible saying God spoke in beginning to create the heavens and earth? And how can the Son be the creator when he is an appointed heir? The Creator doesn't...

The Rapture is About to Happen, Here's Why--Rapture?

A literal taking-up into the sky after being resurrected seems to be the case because it happened to Jesus. I wouldn't say it makes complete sense to spiritualize the concept for everyone else. It seems to be the case that early Christians believed they would experience what Jesus did after...

    Exploring Trinitarian Logic

If Jesus is the Word, and God is the Trinity, then which God was the Word with? In this particular verse, the words "goings forth" can also mean origin. Many versions translate it this way and it would mean Jesus had a point of origin or a beginning and therefore would not literally be from...
