How many consider Adam our father?

My suggestion, rather, is that the Genesis account of Adam and Eve's creation is metaphorical, and that humans evolved from lower primates over an extended period of time. The scientific evidence of this seems compelling to me. It doesn't rule out a creation role for God.

How many consider Adam our father?

Even if we evolved from apes, there was a first instance of sufficient similarity with us to qualify as man rather than ape (although I'd be hard-pressed to draw that line with total accuracy). But it is theoretically possible that parallel evolutions stemming from different ape lineages...

How many consider Adam our father?

Do you mean "father" or do you mean "ancestor?" If Adam was a real rather than a metaphorical person then he was my ancestor. But I prefer to confine "father" to a single generation, at least when discussing human beings rather than the deity. Any other use of "father" is idiomatic at best.

Why its important to keep the Sabbath

I absolutely do mean to deny what the Roman Catholic Church claims to have done. Taking credit for this is a spurious claim, one of many the RCC is fond of making. The RCC thinks everything in church history that happened from Pentecost on is their exclusive domain -- but it ain't true.

Why its important to keep the Sabbath

Let's pause a second before we pin this on the Roman Catholic Church. Observance of Sunday rather than Saturday as "the Lord's Day" became the practice of the "Catholic" Church -- the consensus Christian church throughout the Mediterranean world that referred to itself as "universal" in the...

    The Sabbath

Just a misunderstanding, I suspect. One that has been around since at least the time of Tertullian, who bemoaned "They are constantly throwing out against us that we are preachers of two gods and three gods." CHURCH FATHERS: Against Praxeas (Tertullian)

Are the Democrats Trying to Kill Donald Trump?

Let's say Trump is sentenced to prison. How might Secret Service still have a role in that prison? What would it look like?

Are the Democrats Trying to Kill Donald Trump?

Very much so. The only one presuming a conviction in the New York trial now underway may be Trump himself, as he is proclaiming that the Judge is biased against him and that he cannot get twelve fair jurors in the Borough of Manhattan.

Are the Democrats Trying to Kill Donald Trump?

I doubt the felons will be killed on their way to prison. Almost as much as I doubt this House bill will ever become law.

Are the Democrats Trying to Kill Donald Trump?

If one is in prison, it shouldn't be Secret Service's job to protect the inmate. (We have prison guards for that.) The question is, what happens post-sentencing but prior to incarceration?

Where does the Pope get his authority?

Prophecy of Two Swords has a different take.

Why its important to keep the Sabbath

I said ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS of Luke 23:54, not that Luke meant it that way. I don't think he did.

Where does the Pope get his authority?

Add me to the list. When the apostles replied to His buy-sell suggestion with "we've got two swords already," and He said that would be enough, I seriously doubt He was suggesting that nine of the eleven should remain unarmed if self-defense were His concern. Two swords sufficed to fulfill...

Why its important to keep the Sabbath

I thought I was doing the opposite! English translations of Luke 23:54 have adopted the English idiomatic sense when translating. I was suggesting Matt 28:1 as an example of the non-idiomatic sense.

Why its important to keep the Sabbath

Fair point. I was combining the two trips.

Why its important to keep the Sabbath

My point was that the word has the connotation of "dawning" -- which may or may not mean, in an idiomatic sense, "beginning" or "approaching." But the idiom is English, not Greek.

    The Sabbath

Not sure where you are going with this "not found in Scripture" argument, Randy. Although it's not in the Scriptures either, I require a rest every day of the week. All-nighters just do me in! o_O

Why are Christians leaving their churches?

Christians leave their Churches for diverse reasons. The OP quotes four, from among probably millions. I doubt we can draw any firm conclusions from so small a sample. Conversely, I have noticed that many people start going to church again when they are elderly. Their reasons may be diverse...

Why its important to keep the Sabbath

ἐπέφωσκεν is used in Luke 23:54, but the same story in Matt. 28:1 uses ἐπιφωσκούσῃ, which the KJV renders "began to dawn." That suggests an early morning trip rather than a mid-afternoon one, and in Matt. 28:1 it's occurring after rather than before the Sabbath.

I would like a different name for discussion purposes

Forgive my ignorance: what's the difference between a unitarian and a "bible" unitarian?
