Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

I’m a Jewish monotheist, not a trinitarian. My answer would provide you with how a Jewish monotheist who believes Jesus is the Messiah understands the incident. That is education about Jewish monotheism, not education about the Trinity. I agree that Jesus is God and the Holy Spirit is God...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

Jewish history doesn’t prove Jesus was a hypocrite, a blasphemer and a false teacher. The church began as a sect of Judaism. It was comprised almost entirely of Jewish monotheists who believed that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. That’s primitive Christianity. The history of Christianity...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

I’m using church history. Why do you believe church history is flawed?

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

The Hebrew Bible and the New Testament were written by Jewish monotheists. Trinitarianism is built upon those writings. I don’t agree with that and I doubt that those who recite the trinitarian creeds will agree with you about that.

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

That’s a fine question but it falls outside of the focus of this thread. My answer to your question doesn’t have anything to do with educating people about the doctrine of the Trinity. Right?

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

So what does that produce in this case? It produces the spectacle of a trinitarian parade being led by a Jewish monotheist drum major who knows the history. A trinitarian member who knows the history should be leading the parade. In their absence, I’m filling the gap.

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

Whatever stock we put into such polls, they point to some degree of educational failure.

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

I don’t want to do it but I will if it becomes necessary. A moderator may step in at any moment of their own accord and close it anyway. I believe in the constraints of history. They ground us. It would be better if a trinitarian member walked us through it but that’s part of the problem...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

I would like for us to get back to the creeds. We left off with the Apostles’ Creed. Would one of the trinitarian members post the original Nicene Creed here for us?

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

It’s beginning to turn into an argument. This was supposed to be a clinical, unemotional, education on the development of historical orthodox trinitarianism in and by the church. I’m close to requesting that the thread be closed.

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

The Catholic scholar Edmund Fortman calls this “elemental trinitarianism” in his book The Triune God: A Historical Study of the Doctrine of the Trinity. We can think of them as building blocks. ”If we take the New Testament writers together they tell us that there is only one God, the creator...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

That’s fine. Many trinitarian churches recite the Apostles’ Creed. The trinitarian church I was raised in (Southern Baptist) isn’t creedal. It was quite a while before I even became aware (in a short Bible study led by the pastor) that there were any such thing as creeds. It’s not that the...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

Yes, I agree that it would be helpful to post the text of those creeds. That’s a very good suggestion. You could do it, I could do it, anyone who wants to could do it. It doesn’t matter who posts them. The trinitarian creeds teach trinitarian orthodoxy. If I was going to do it I would begin...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

The trinitarian was calling me a dog. A dog is an unclean animal in scripture. He was dehumanizing me. To hound is also to pursue something relentlessly. In my case that something is Jewish monotheism. That’s the word play: He was saying in a thinly guarded way that I’m nothing but an unclean...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

Thank you for the invitation but this thread has nothing to do with my interpretation of the Trinity. When I taught the doctrine I played it straight. The doctrine teaches what it does no matter what I think about it. [Anyone who has been a member here for a while knows that I’m a Jewish...

    QUOTE for the day

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

Most people today believe they are emulating the early church in their theology. Most clergy are focusing their attention on “Christian living”, not on teaching church history. A very good friend of mine is a trinitarian pastor. We’ve discussed the matter a few times. He once told me that...

To the only God our Savior

I’m a 1st century believer living in the 21st century. The Board administration / moderating team is willing now, and always has been, to recognize me as Christian. The only option the Administrator has offered for you (and others like you who insist on speaking here against trinitarian...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

I understand your position; the trinitarians do too. It’s been beaten to death. What you stated is potentially going to provoke the argument which I explicitly stated in the OP is not the intention of the thread. (I’m not a trinitarian but your comment put me on the brink of doing what a...
