What Is "Predestination"? How Does It Shape Your Daily Life?

As a causation theory this makes no sense. God knows that all ravens are black because all ravens are black, not the other way around.

What Is "Predestination"? How Does It Shape Your Daily Life?

    How can foreknowledge "precipitate" anything?

The Seventh Day Is A Good Sign For Christians

What's at stake here? As long as every seventh day is dedicated to the Lord, why would it matter whether the count started on, say, a Wednesday?

    Interpretation based upon Systematic Theology

    How do you know this?

What Is "Predestination"? How Does It Shape Your Daily Life?

I don't see it that way. If God wills something to happen or some event to occur, then it is going to happen, period. And if God wills something to happen contingently or some event to occur contingently, then it will come to fruition if and only if the contingency is satisfied. God can...

    Peter the Rock?

I am not disagreeing with you, my friend (except about the Bible not having contradictions; it does). I think the Apostles did know why Simon got renamed. But I don't. Unlike them, with their first-hand access to Jesus for years, all I have to go on are ambiguous verses. And while I am...

Why do some people not like the idea of OSAS?

What is The Great White Throne? I'm just a dumb Episcopalian, and don't know these nuances.

    Peter the Rock?

It's clear that the name "Cephas" stuck when Jesus renamed Simon. Everyone knew it, including Paul and John. But we can't automatically assume that they knew why Jesus renamed him that. If John was present for the colloquy recorded in Matt. 16:18, and if he authored the gospel that bears his...

Why do some people not like the idea of OSAS?

Here, I think. At least that's what I say when reciting the Nicene Creed.

    Peter the Rock?

@Marymog, sorry to steal your platform. Wrangler asked YOU to explain the question you've been ignoring. I don't mean to preempt any other answer you care to provide.

    Peter the Rock?

I agree that other writings can sometimes help resolve the meaning of an ambiguous verse like Matt. 16:18. But not First Corinthians. The two most plausible interpretations of Matt. 16:18 -- the petra was Peter himself, or the petra was Peter's confession of faith -- are BOTH inconsistent with...

Why do some people not like the idea of OSAS?

I pray aloud, “Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven,” but I think to myself, is God’s will not always done? Scripture reports that Job said to God, “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” Doesn’t that make it pointless to pray that God’s will...

Why do some people not like the idea of OSAS?

Well, maybe we will all be reconciled and redeemed. Maybe some of us won't. I don't know. It's nice to think that Jesus won't lose a single one of us (John 6:39), but some Christians do seem bent on getting lost.

Is Sola Scriptura a valid Biblical position?

Good questions! (There are lots of folks posting on this site who draw no distinction between the two.)

Covering up traces on Biden cases in Ukraine. What documents and why were destroyed at the US Embass

Has anyone posting on this thread actually seen the documents that got destroyed? Or is this Biden-bashing all based on hearsay? I think Biden is pretty much a Bozo myself, but even he gets the benefit of the doubt with me when it comes to conspiracy theories and the like.

Why do some people not like the idea of OSAS?

Understood. But Christians are subject to the judgement too. Are they all to be ushered in past the Pearly Gates. regardless of how they have lived their lives or how well they have walked the walk? That would make their judgment rather pointless, wouldn't it?

Why do some people not like the idea of OSAS?

I just can't square eternal security with the coming judgment that Scripture references. There is little point in a judgment if 100% will be judged positively.

Why do some people not like the idea of OSAS?

The "with fear and trembling" reference in Phil. 2 might suggest exactly this.

The Raising Of Lazarus From The Dead, The Pharisees Plan To Kill Jesus

Have you ever wondered why this supposedly notorious miracle (see John 12:11) is never mentioned in any of the earlier-written synoptic gospels?
