    The Trinity definition

A few minutes ago I was called a liar by a Catholic member of this forum for saying that trinitarianism teaches us “Jesus is not a human person” (he called it “patently false”) and advised me to “investigate whatever caused you to post such a lie”. In other words, he suggested that I study the...

    Mother of Jesus?

Thank you for confirming. Are you familiar with Catholic Answers (catholic.com)? If so, do you recognize it as a reliable source of information on the Catholic faith?

    Mother of Jesus?

I was raised in the Southern Baptist Church. That is where I first learned it. I married a woman who was raised in the Roman Catholic Church. She was taught it there. Yesterday I asked a trinitarian member of this forum (Christophany) if it is true or not. He assured me that it is true. I find...

    Mother of Jesus?

Spoken like a Catholic, not a Protestant. Whether you personally are a Catholic (which is what I believe you to be just from listening to you for a few minutes) or not, the difference in the faith traditions between Catholic and Protestant is another reason some Christians find the phrase...

    Mother of Jesus?

A fundamental tenet of trinitarianism, as is “Jesus is not a human person”. The concept of God himself having a mother is controversial because it requires us to ignore the common meaning of words and explain it as a mystery.

    Mother of Jesus?

Jesus himself is a human person. (Note: Trinitarianism teaches us that Jesus is not a human person.) God himself isn’t a human person. A human person having a mother isn’t a controversial concept. God himself having a mother is a controversial concept.

    The Son of Man

Why do you think Jesus called himself “Son of man”? When you read scripture are you left with the impression that Jesus is a human person?
  8. Mattathias

    The Trinity definition

A deceased human person. No, but it’s usually close. No, but it’s usually close. No. No. No. No.
  9. Mattathias

    The Trinity definition

Power and authority. To those who didn’t believe Jesus, it meant Jesus was making himself something they thought he wasn’t - the Messiah their/his God had promised to raise up from among them.

    I am DancesWithGnostics

Internet martyrdom (the permanently banned are dead to those who issue the permanent ban) is a piece of cake. They killed you (metaphorically) and then went out of existence (literally) on the internet. Meanwhile, here you are, alive and well on the internet. I expect some of them will...

    The Trinity definition

God is our Father. When an individual Jew or Christian says “God is my Father” the Jew or the Christian is not making himself equal with God, is he?
  12. Mattathias

    The Trinity definition

At the very least it means having the same authority as the Father. I would ask, did Jesus make himself equal with the Father (the accusation) or did the Father make Jesus equal with him?
  13. Mattathias

    The Trinity definition

It’s taught, but seldom at church. As a non-trinitarian, shouldn’t you want it taught? Doesn’t a teaching which “invariably raises more questions than it can possibly answer” present you with a golden opportunity to present an easily understood alternative for people to consider?

    I am DancesWithGnostics

    * I’ll try this again * Pardon me, sir. Haven’t we met somewhere before? I’m sorry to hear that you were banned from a forum. If that forum happened to be TF, it is no more. (As of 11/11/2020.) Good to see you here.

    Is Jesus the WORD?

“The OT belief in God is grounded in historical experience and develops in constant contact with history. The name Yahweh is thus distinguished by a specific content. God is not just any deity but a distinct divine person.” (Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, Abridged in One Volume...

    The Trinity definition

While I wouldn’t disagree with that, I think the trinitarian clergy bears responsibility for failing to preach it from the pulpit and seeing to it that it is taught in Sunday School.
  17. Mattathias

    The Trinity definition

Thank you. That’s my understanding of what the doctrine teaches, too. I’ve come across many trinitarians who’ve told me that it isn’t true. Have you? If you have, what do you attribute it to?
  18. Mattathias

    The Trinity definition

I disagree, for the simple reason that the head of the body is himself not trinitarian. You strike me as someone who is knowledgeable about the doctrine of the Trinity. That being the case, I would like to ask you a question: Is it true that historical orthodox trinitarianism teaches us that...

I squeal (with delight) whenever I hear it.
