    'God working' question

You are quite at liberty to use whatever translation you prefer. But I love the KJV for the majesty of it's language and the beauty of it's poetry, and will continue to quote it. And, I might add, it is an important part of our tradition and heritage, and it lives for me. Best wishes, 2RM.

    'God working' question

Just as Satan and his demons tempt us to evil, so God and His angels tempt us to good. I dare say that is an ongoing project for Him. Best wishes, 2RM.

Are we meant to please people, or please God?

Well, my current project is to eradicate poverty. Worldwide. I think that would please God immensely, and give Him reason to think His Son had not died in vain. But, I cannot, of course, do it alone. So, I guess, I also need to please potential collaborators along the way. Best wishes, 2RM.

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

I do now. Thank you for that clarification. But I think your antipathy misplaced. Where did I say Graham did 'a bad thing'? I merely implied that his take on Christianity is not the only one possible, and that we Brits might have stuff to say it could be useful for Americans to listen to. We...

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

Interlude 2. This is an organisation I have recently found, and am testing out. Any budding entrepreneur with a bright idea, but unable to find the funding, will know how frustrating that can be. So, I have been looking for a microfinance charity for some time. A hand up, not a hand out...

    What Is A Genuine Christian?

So, thanks for that, Walter. Let me enquire of you, do you believe Genesis? I only raise the matter, because my position prevents me agreeing wholly with your OP. Best wishes, 2RM.

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

Ha Ha! That's me bound for Hell then! For, although I have been born again of the spirit, there are too many who have not and whose company I find congenial and would not want to lose, and too many smug, complacent, self righteous born again Christians whose company I could perfectly well do...

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

Hmmm. You did not quite answer my question. That's fine, as I think you were building a justification for your answer. So, what do you think happens to these people? Heaven, Purgatory, or Hell? Best wishes, 2RM.

    What Is A Genuine Christian?

Not at all sure I entirely agree. Jesus left us with two commandments: Love God! and Love each other! So far as I am concerned, anyone who strives to keep these is a 'genuine' Christian. Best wishes, 2RM.

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

Incidentally, what do you think happens to people who are reasonably good, reasonably virtuous, reasonably decent individuals, as I have found in my happy experience most are, but are not Christians? Best wishes, 2RM.

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

I agree. But unless He had first died, the resurrection could not have happened. Best wishes, 2RM.

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

Agreed. But we Christians have the duty and privilege to reciprocate Jesus' gift, by doing in our time what He could not manage in His. Or, if we don't, as the parable makes clear, woe betide us! Best wishes, 2RM.

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

Because otherwise Jesus would have been, at best, just another Jewish prophet no one paid much attention to. Best wishes, 2RM.

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

Agreed. But what is politically, economically and psychologically radical is the extent of the help I request. Did you actually read that parable? I cannot see any other conclusion you can reasonably draw. And I do not think Jesus ever meant His life and death to be misconstrued as a 'Get into...

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

Interlude 1 This is one of my favourite charities. It hits so many desirable targets at once: Provides food for the poor. Provides employment opportunities for the poor. Locks up carbon to combat climate change. Increases the availibility and reduces the price of cashew nuts (my favourites!)...

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

Read the context! (Matthew 26:11 and Mark 14:7 KJV). Jesus was talking to a specific audience (His disciples) at a specific time, in a specific place. And it was quite true: His disciples always would have the poor with them, for the rest of their lives. But for the first time in history, we...

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

The Parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man. Luke 16: 19-31 KJV. 19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with...

Good for you. I applaud that. Best wishes, 2RM.

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

I do not deny that the world needs a radical rethink of the way it does stuff. But selfishness and greed can only be fixed one soul at a time. Our own. And this is the opportunity I am trying to lay out in this thread. Best wishes, 2RM.

Billy Graham, and a new crusade

So, I presume you are one of those that wants to lift. That's good. We can make a start, simply by gradually reducing our annual budgets to the figures I gave, and donating any excess we might have at the end of each year to appropriate charities. Are you up for that? Best wishes, 2RM.
