@Johann So much so that Jesus doesn't even find fault with the lazy servant, when he accuses Jesus of being "an austere man"; He only finds fault with the lazy servant for NOT WALKING CONSISTENTLY WITH HIS CONVICTIONS--for not walking in his faith! Matthew 25 26‘You wicked, lazy servant!’...

Consider : Romans 2 says the Gentile believers are "a Law unto themselves", and, accordingly, will not be judged by the Law, but by "their own thoughts accusing or else excusing them"--this is nothing other than the ultimate expression of/culmination of Romans 14:5 "each man must be fully...

Yes, "God's righteousness" doesn't count as "works", which word corresponds to "a righteousness of my own". "My own righteousness from [knowledge of good and evil--of which "the Law" is but a species]" would lead people to focus on me and praise me as I boast of my goodness; "God's...

Paul is hard to understand. Taking a tiny strip of Scripture, "I'm not justified by 'works'", has led to a misunderstanding; saying, "I'm not justified by my own righteousness (which is what 'works' corresponds to), I'm justified by God's righteousness (which is what 'faith' corresponds to), by...

Walking in faith (not qualifying as "works") is the topic lol

This is a forum for discussion. I assume I'll find views different from mine here.

And there is a reason: the Law of Faith extends into the walk.

    Justified by Works

Yeah, people get confused about this issue : "If I'm not justified/saved by my good works, but God's grace through faith, surely nothing I do after being justified/saved by faith can contribute to my justification/salvation!" They would do better to switch to thinking "I can't be justified by...

You immediately jumped to accusation instead of being understanding. Let's cool the conversation down, de-escalate.

Nope, I don't agree that mere faith in Christ is the basis of justification, because that idea is not the whole story, just part of it. I'll copy paste the OP as my explanation : Walking by faith is not "works". "Works" is "a righteousness of my own"; walking in faith is God's righteousness...

I'm on my phone. It's hard to type. Also, I don't see a point in re-typing everything I've already spent my time explaining. Why is it offensive for me to ask that you read the OP?

Do you dispute Jer 23:6? They're both true : "God Is Our Righteousness" is one of Christ's names, AND "God's Righteousness" is the basis of justification (by God's grace through faith).

I made a typo : "God's love IN us is our means of righteousness / service"

    Justified by Works

If "God Is Our Righteousness" (Jer 23:6), and "God is love", maybe it is true, to some extent, that God's love is us is our righteousness.

This just struck me this morning--so many individual "commands", even New Testament expectations, are wrapped up and fulfilled in "love". I'm hoping this will restore/change my life. This is reassuring, sounds like the same stuff God is always saying to me.

In my view, sin in them doesn't give them freedom, but works its works in them against their inner man's will, causing them to be guilty, killing and enslaving them (this is all from Romans 7)--the question is whether they will be honest about their slavery or not.

It is an abomination to love what oughtn't be loved; i think, also, it is an abomination to not love what ought to be loved--and God ought to be loved. Then again, Jesus brings glory to the Father, and the Father glorifies the Son, so, could it be that they're not self glorifyng? On the other...

Unsaved Jews could not keep the Law. The Tree of The Knowledge of Good and Evil always leads to death, even if the "promise" it holds forth is life--if righteousness and life came by the Law, Christ died in vain.
