    Ephesians

Actually looking through this thread overall, it appears extremely thoughtful. I applaud @Ziggy .

    Ephesians

That's quite an involved post @Ziggy! Let me know if you want an LDS Christian (aka "Mormon") to comment on anything at all.

    The god of mormonism, Omnipresent?

You do realize that vast majority of LDS Christians ( including myself) don’t live in Salt Lake City. In fact majority don’t even like in the USA.

    Another question for mormons.

The OP doesn’t make any sense, and doesn’t have anything to do with actual LDS Christian beliefs.

    Another question for mormons.

I can’t speak as to the OP. But as an actual LDS Christian: of course Joseph Smith is dead. That’s a different thing than a person receiving revelation from God. Let me know if you want me to address anything.

    Another question for mormons.

Ah, thank you for taking the time to answer. I agree that it's not something essential to salvation. On the subject of literalness Noah's flood, LDS Christians have a variety of beliefs. Some are literal global, I'm personally of the "local world" camp, and there's a bunch of other views too...

    Another question for mormons.

Would you say that believing the following is required for salvation: a literal global flood with literally every type of animal on a boat of the portions literally described in the Bible?
  8. J

    Another question for mormons.

@TLHKAJ, which parts of the Bible do you believe *must* be literally true, and which parts do you acknowledge as being parables or having symbolic components?

    Santa Claus

I have no problem with Santa, given two caveats (these apply to to my conduct, other people do what they do)- 1) Christ comes first. No crowding Him out. 2) Always acknowledging the whole flying reindeer and chimney thing is pretend. And of course, try to keep the commercialization down.

    Black Friday

In the early 2000’s, I had a lot fun doing the stupid-early Black Friday thing with friends. We had these huge battle plans, and had a blast. Nowadays no, do to a couple of factors: - the sales moving on to Thanksgiving Day proper. That’s not ok. - Lack of people to go with - moving to a...

    How do you 'do' Christmas?

I love the atmosphere... but I’m just not a decorator. My daughter (6) is though, so we’re starting to do more. As to church services: my church typically does its Christmas celebrations the Sunday before Christmas, giving the 25th itself to family time and worship. I really like that. Oh-...

    How do you 'do' Christmas?

I didn’t have the heart to take down our Christmas tree... January 2015(?), and still haven’t. Past then we don’t do much decorations here, but I love decorating at my parents house. My parent’s house has lots of tradition of decorating, gingerbread houses, breadset, etc. My house...

    Another question for mormons.

I’m not sure which “those people” you are referring to, but LDS Christians believe that the Bible includes things which are literally true (like the resurrection ) and ones that are stories to convey a true message (like the parables of Christ ). There’s also parts we don’t know the extent of...

    Another question for mormons.

Doing quick answers for your connivence, feel free to ask for elaboration and/or quotes at any point. The Father, Son, and Spirt are 3 persons in 1 God. Christ's doesn't pray to Himself, He prays to the Father, etc. They are one (John 17 is a great chapter) Jesus Christ alone is the Son of...

    Another question for mormons.

Same reason the Bible has long "begat" sections: families are important. It's important to know about our heritage and also to connect with each other, reaching out and being there for each other. I do intend to spend the eternities with my family (and Christ of course :) ). I can elaborate...

    Another question for mormons.

And how do you reconcile that with me (a very devote & involved LDS lady) regularly buying my daughter bubblegum? People aren't clones of each other, and there are beliefs that are more rooted in culture than anything doctrinal. There are odd-ducks sitting in every set of pews.

    Another question for mormons.

Do you have to live in Texas to display Texas culture? Nope, I live in WY and there's a ton of Texas culture people here. I also gave you some examples in my own family that don't match your aunt & uncles. People aren't clones of one another: there's difference in personalities, cultures...

    Another question for mormons.

Two different things: LDS Doctrine - no problem with caffeine. Culture of one state especially decades ago - dislike of caffeine because it's not good for you. And yes, people from that one state do move other places and people from other places do move to that state. Two different things.

    Another question for mormons.

Feel free to disgree with my beliefs (or anyone else’s) but be accurate as to what is is your disagreeing with. That video is fiction, in no way actual LDS beliefs.

    Another question for mormons.

Nope! Though Utah culture does traditionally has a thing against caffeine because it’s not good for you. This has decreased in recent decades. Also: LDS Christian beliefs and Utah culture are two different things. I for one, could never live in Utah. Vast majority (90%) of LDS Christians don’t.
