Why are there so many versions of the Bible?

Thanks for the advice, I'll remember that the next time the Lord gives me the unction to proclaim truth. He's not that big into providing evidence in the areas of faith, but He has always confirmed the word of His prophets. Are you asking for some personal sign? That's about all the evidence the...

Why are there so many versions of the Bible?

Don't be ignorant Tom. My comments were not my observations of the book, but from the footnotes and publisher's comments found in that paperback copy of the Jerusalem Bible used as a text book. If you don't like what the authors said about their own work, take it up with them.

Why are there so many versions of the Bible?

See my previous response. The Jerusalem Bible was used in a biblical "survey" class at Suffolk Community College back in the 1970s which my cousin Tony took while attending that school. I purchased a copy after he showed one to me as it was the first modern translation (in English) that I'd...

Why are there so many versions of the Bible?

I don't debate, I proclaim, and there is a big difference. I no longer have my old paperback copy of the Jerusalem bible, but I couldn't give you an example of the additions and changes, because I didn't observe them. I read about them in the foot notes, which were in that respect surprisingly...

Is God shamed by our evil deeds?

A week or so ago, an assistant Pastor delivered the sermon for our Sunday morning service rather than the congregation's principle Pastor. The man has a strong accent and I wasn't following his message all that closely as the accent is a distraction to me, but one part of his message was a bit...

Why are there so many versions of the Bible?

So, let me understand something, when Catholic Scholars created a new translation, the Jerusalem Bible, and changed the order of some verses to make it fit Catholic doctrine more closely, and duplicated some lines of text while deleting others, they were producing an invalid approved version of...

    New years eve comet

I don't put any weight in modern astrology because, as I've alluded to, people reading stars or cards or crystal balls give meaning to their visions from their own minds which are typically corrupted, carnal, and separated from the grace of God. I might regard the visions of one who has been...

    New years eve comet

No one alive knows how God used the stars for signs (in the past) with the exception of their mention in scriptural books as signs (such as those verses in the book of the Revelation that specifically identify certain celestial activity as signs of the return of Christ.) But I've never declared...

    New years eve comet

First of all, the stars of the Zodiac belt are the stars of the Zodiac belt because they lie close to what we call "the ecliptic." The ecliptic is a mathematical plane which cuts through the sun and the orbit of the planets (roughly). That is the planets orbit the sun, mostly, in the plane of...

Why are there so many versions of the Bible?

I know that your question was not directed to me, but I'll give you an answer from scripture itself and one of the greatest passages to be found in the bible: 7. Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. 8...

    New years eve comet

I've heard about the book though I've never read it and there may be some validity to it, however, this is my objection to such things: The stars as a whole are nothing more than points of light in the sky to us as observers on the Earth. The constellations are mental constructs, pictures of...

    New years eve comet

What is your opinion of the star In (Mat. 2:2) ? "Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him." Stranger I think that the visitors were most likely astrologers or navigators or they probably would never have noticed a...

Why are there so many versions of the Bible?

There are many translations of the scripture because there are many people who have been unhappy with available translations for one reason or another. That is, people tend to want a word from God that is more aligned with what they already believe. The Jews have the Tanakh which only contains...

    New years eve comet

A review of the night sky for last evening showed Venus big and bright where the star was seen, just a few degrees off of the ecliptic and within the constellation of Aquarius. The moon was just slightly above the western horizon, and so obscured by terrain and clouds. I think that I'll drag my...

    New years eve comet

Perhaps, but what I observed tonight was brighter than any star that I've ever seen in the night sky anywhere from here to California (and it definitely appeared stationary until disappearing beyond the horizon.) Of course with the sky partially obscured I couldn't see any crescent and the new...

More signs of an earth in travail

It sounds to me like you haven't seen very much of the Earth. I'm not real thrilled with malls and parking lots, but the Earth's population tends to be mainly concentrated around its cities, and when you look at satellite images or just travel around you see mostly water, dirt, rock, and...

More signs of an earth in travail

Earlier while scanning news stories on Bing I'd come across a story about a comet being visible for new years eve. I might have seen it tonight (or I might have seen Venus looking extraordinarily bright) and while looking at related stories came up with another interesting headline about a foul...

    New years eve comet

I went out in the yard with the dog at about 6:10 this evening and though the horizon was a little cloudy the brightest object in the sky was a "star" to the south west approximately 220 degrees from magnetic north. The moon is just beyond "New" phase and wasn't visible so it would be hard to...

    New years eve comet

I just ran across an on line story that we're being visited by a comet which should be visible on New years eve. I'm not really about looking for signs in the sky or signs of the times, but comets were once looked at as signs or omens (possibly because of the first chapter of Genesis) and the...
