LAZARUS AND THE RICH MAN ISN'T A PARABLE AND CAN TEACH US SOME PRINCIPLES ABOUT LIFE AFTER DEATH

The phrase, "Abraham's bosom" is found only in Luke 16:22. There is nothing in that verse or the surrounding verses to indicate that "Abraham's bosom" means "the heart of the earth." We are not told in the Bible that Jesus went to Abraham's bosom.

    Should I buy a sword?

Thanks for the reply. "MKJV" apparently stands for the Modern King James Version, published in the 1960s. I don't know anything about it, and have not used it. It is just one of the translations available on my E-sword program.

    Should I buy a sword?

Sorry, what has Tuesday got to do with it? And why is it a Strawman attempt? Yes, there is plenty of violence in the Bible, but the particular question under discussion is whether New Testament believers are ever said to have gone around retaliating against those who persecuted them by using...

    Should I buy a sword?

No it doesn't. You had asked: "Are you aware God's people throughout the Bible were armed with weapons?" Therefore, what Anchorite asked you to do is, in my view, a fair response to your question. He wrote: "So do tell us which New Testament believers were armed and used weapons to defend...

    Should I buy a sword?

Who do you mean by "we?" Christians? I for one am certainly not in a war fought with guns or other physical weapons. The bible makes clear that the Christian's warfare is a spiritual one.

    Should I buy a sword?

Christians are indeed in a war, but not one that is to be fought with guns: (2Co 10:4) For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, The Christians "armour" is likewise of a spiritual nature, as described in Ephesians 6: (Eph 6:10) Finally, my...

    Should I buy a sword?

Are you really suggesting that Christians should use firearms to help stop the spread of Islam? It is God Who builds His church. We are called to be faithful. We can leave the "success" to Him. And it is through words that the message of Salvation in Jesus Christ is to be spread: (1Co 1:21)...

Salvation : A Gift from God.

Not without any priest all. But we are told that Jesus Christ is the high priest of all who believe in Him: (Heb 4:14) Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. With a High Priest like that, what...

BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF CHRIST

Because Scripture is God's inspired word: (2Ti 3:16) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (2Ti 3:17) that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. It has...

    Should I buy a sword?

Sorry but I don't understand why widespread gun ownership in a country would make the spread of Islam harder there.

    Should I buy a sword?

I was comparing the UK with the USA. In 2023, the latest year for which I could find figures, there were 31 deaths by stabbing in the UK, and 1,688 in the USA. Obviously the population of the USA is far greater than the UK, which accounts for much of the discrepancy. As for Western Europe...

    Should I buy a sword?

That sounds good, but compare the minuscule number of murders involving firearms here in the UK, where very few people own guns, with the much larger number of deaths, including some horrific mass shootings, involving firearms in the USA.

The thief on the cross beside Jesus is an example of this.

So sorry. I must have misunderstood your post. (I thought it was unusual for you and me to disagree.)

BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF CHRIST

I really don't see where in the bible we are told that a person who has believed on the Lord Jesus Christ will burn in hell because their baptism was deficient. Besides, the command of Jesus was not to baptize in His name, but in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit...

    Should I buy a sword?

Some modern bibles might leave it out, but by no means all do so. For example: (Mat 5:22 NKJV) But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever...

    Paul's Gospel

I can only repeat what I have said before, that Paul there is talking of himself as a pattern or an example. He is not saying that he is the first or the only apostle to the Gentiles, or that he would continue to be an apostle to Gentiles after his death. Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus...

    Paul's Gospel

Sorry, what request? I have just looked back at my last 5 or 6 posts on this thread, and I cannot see where I have asked you for verses. Also, I don't think I accused you you being impolite or disrespectful. I am not sure how this relates to my post to which you were replying.

Christ chose Paul for today not Peter etc

That's what I try to do. I have yet to see any verse of Scripture that tells me that Paul is an apostle today, or that he is the only apostle to Gentile Christians today, or that Gentile Christians should only take Paul's writings as their New Testament. Paul himself wrote: (2Ti 3:16) All...
