Christ chose Paul for today not Peter etc

You just keep repeating the same thing. How does Paul saying that he is an example to Christians in his future mean that he is an apostle to those Christians? How does it mean that I, as a Christian who happens to be a Gentile, should only take note of the parts of the bible written by Paul...

Christ chose Paul for today not Peter etc

Yes I do, but as I said, Paul is talking in that verse about being an example. He is not talking about listening to his preaching, or about his being an apostle. The verse does not lend support to your idea that Gentile Christians today should only heed the words of Paul - at least, that is...

    Paul's Gospel

1 Timothy 1:16 is about Paul being an example, not about his preaching or his writing or his apostleship, all of which ended when his earthly life was over. I agree that we should be taught by Scripture, all of it, not just the parts Paul penned.

Christ chose Paul for today not Peter etc

True, but that is Paul talking about himself as an example, not about his preaching or his writings. What is your real point in all your postings about this matter? Do you really believe that Christians today who are Gentiles should only read Paul's epistles, and those parts of Acts which deal...

Many Say ‘Just BELIEVE’… But What Did JESUS Actually TEACH?

In that case, it seems we are in agreement. Apologies for not understanding straight away. Thanks!

Many Say ‘Just BELIEVE’… But What Did JESUS Actually TEACH?

Thanks, that is much clearer. However, I don't agree that Paul fought baptism. He did actually baptise some people, for example the Philippian jailer in Acts 16, and those he mentions here: (1Co 1:14) I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, (1Co 1:15) lest anyone...

Many Say ‘Just BELIEVE’… But What Did JESUS Actually TEACH?

Of course modern day circumcision is not baptism. All the Jewish boys who are circumcised, all the other boys who may be circumcised for health reasons, are not being baptized when they are circumcised. I have heard the idea that baptism is the equivalent of Old Testament circumcision, but it...

What was Jesus like as a child?

A Google search brought up this from an AI Overview: "1. The Holy Family's Flight into Egypt (Christian Tradition) According to early Christian apocrypha and medieval texts (such as the Golden Legend), the Holy Family’s arrival in Egypt caused the idols in pagan temples to fall and shatter."...

Many Say ‘Just BELIEVE’… But What Did JESUS Actually TEACH?

The Philippian jailer was NOT told, "Be baptized and you will be saved," but "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved" (see Acts 16:31). Philip told the Ethiopian that if he believed with all his heart, he could be baptized. Then we read: (Act 8:37) And he answered and said...

Christ chose Paul for today not Peter etc

But you were not just talking about parts of God's word, for which God used Paul as the human penman, applying today. You have said repeatedly that Paul is the minister or the apostle to Gentiles today.

    Paul's Gospel

Being a pattern is being an example, not the same thing as being a minister or an apostle.

    Paul's Gospel

Those verses do apply today. However, the verses about Paul ministering to Gentiles could only apply while Paul was here on earth. Certainly the parts of the Bible for which God inspired Paul as the human penman remain true and relevant today, but so do other parts of the Bible.

Christ chose Paul for today not Peter etc

Here are some: (Mar 16:16) He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (Act 16:31) So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." (Joh 3:14) And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the...

    Paul's Gospel

True, but where do any of those verses say that Paul would still be a minister to the Gentiles two thousand years later?

BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF CHRIST

Running water? Where do we read that in the bible as a requirement for baptism? Granted, many were baptized in rivers, which were "running water", but as far as I am aware, we are not told anywhere in the bible that the water used to baptise somebody had to be running water.

    Paul's Gospel

I agree. This notion of Paul being an apostle for us today seems to be appearing in several threads. Yes, Paul was the human author of quite a bit of the New Testament, and of course the whole of the bible is God's revelation of Himself to people in all ages, but others wrote bible books too...

Christ chose Paul for today not Peter etc

The bible, as far as I am aware, did not select any of the apostles as the apostle and minister to me in the 21st century. All of the apostles went to glory about two thousand years ago. Certainly God used some of them (Peter, Paul, James, John etc.) is the human penmen of the New Testament...

Christ chose Paul for today not Peter etc

I agree that Paul was mainly the apostle to the Gentiles, though he did preach to Jews as well, and Peter was mainly an apostle to the Jews, though he did preach to Gentiles as well. But the title of your thread is not about Jews and Gentiles, but about now and then: "Christ chose Paul for...

Christ chose Paul for today not Peter etc

I find in my bible that Christ chose Peter, and Christ chose Paul. Neither of them is alive on earth today, but both of them were used by God as the human "penmen" of His word. That word is for us today; we have no right to take the letters of Peter out of the bible.

BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF CHRIST

Because one thief believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and was saved. The other thief continued to mock the Saviour. Because the Pharisee was trusting in his own goodness to save him. His "prayer" consisted of telling God all the good things he had done, and favourably comaring himself to...
