    Biblical Cosmology

When God first created light, on Day 1, that light clearly did not come from the sun, because that was not created until day 4. When He did create the sun, moon and stars, we read: “14 ¶ Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and...

So Joseph married Mary but didn’t have sex?

At that stage, his brothers didn't believe in Him: “For even His brothers did not believe in Him.” (Joh 7:5 NKJV) Like other Jews, they probably thought He was crazy.

So Joseph married Mary but didn’t have sex?

We surely all believe in her virginity until after the birth of Jesus. Roman Catholics and some others believe that she remained a virgin all her life. They say that the brothers and sisters of Jesus were either cousins, or children of Joseph from a supposed former marriage.

    Faith alone

They do and Christians are taught by Paul in his letter to the Philippians: “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;” (Php 1:6 NKJV) He doesn't begin a good work in a sinner, then leave it to the sinner to...

Is the claim of only one God false? - How many gods are there?

The false gods (Baal, Molech, etc.) are idols, as Psalm 115 says, which I quote in Post 65. Apart from Satan, whom Paul calls the god of this world, the false gods are just idols, not spiritual beings. I cannot recall a passage in the bible where God addresses a godess directly.

Is the claim of only one God false? - How many gods are there?

Thanks. Yes, as I understand it, the word "gods" is sometimes used in the bible of God-appointed judges. That seems to be the case in Psalm 82.

Is the claim of only one God false? - How many gods are there?

Where in the bible does it say that there are gods who die like men, or that men become gods when they die? The bible mentions the true God, and false gods. Of the false gods, the psalmist wrote: “4 Their idols are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands. 5 They have mouths, but they do not...

Religion : The "broad way" that leads to Hell.

I would say that Behold was not cherry-picking. Yes, James was writing to Christians, and telling them that as Christians, they should live holy lives, for example, visiting orphans and widows, and keeping oneself unstained from the world. Doing those things does not make anybody a Christian...

Religion : The "broad way" that leads to Hell.

That is true. A non-Christian can indeed visit orphans and widows, and merely doing good works doesn't make a sinner dead in trespasses and sins into a Christian. That is why I say that religion, as the bible describes it, can never save anybody. As you say, that requires the new birth.

Religion : The "broad way" that leads to Hell.

True religion in the bible is not Christianity as such, but the outward aspects of being a Christian. As James wrote: “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” (Jas 1:27 NKJV) So...

Religion : The "broad way" that leads to Hell.

Thanks for that. Yes, I said that in the bible, the word "religion" is used to refer to the outward aspects of being a Christian. Christianity is not referred to as a religion in the bible.

Religion : The "broad way" that leads to Hell.

That is strange. I have just looked at Post 37, and it is yours, not mine. You quoted the words of another poster, Behold, who had written, "Religion is always a barrier between God and man." I didn't write those words at all, so I am afraid your post has ended up as being rather confusing.

    No Escape : From Hell

I do not agree that Jesus was telling the robber that he would be with Him on earth.

    Jesus Chooses Us

I agree. I had not even heard of John Calvin or the "TULIP" acronym when I believed the doctrines of grace. I believed them and still do believe them, because I find them in the bible. When you look at the Confessions of Faith of those who hold to the doctrines of grace, such as the...

The Bible - Fiction, or non-fiction?

You might as well say that the very first sin in the Garden of Eden was not charged because the law had yet to be given. But a law had been given. God had told Adam and Eve that they were free to eat the fruit of every tree in the garden except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They...

    No Escape : From Hell

Where does it say that it applies only to the Pharisees? John 5;28-29 say: “28 “Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 “and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the...

    Jesus Chooses Us

No I don't think that. The bible does say that Christians were chosen/elected by God: “3 ¶ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly [places] in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the...

    Jesus Chooses Us

No, not a robot or a car, but we are all sinners by nature, and the bible tells as that as such, we cannot receive or know the things of God, and salvation is surely such a thing: “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he...

    Jesus Chooses Us

No I don't think that monergists believe that God the Son didn't contribute anything to the work of salvation, but that the work of salvation is the triune God's work, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

THE LORD'S PRAYER: JESUS DIDN'T PRAY IT, SHOULD WE?

But Israel had already been chosen as the people of God.
