The Relationship Between Israel and the Church

The "tree" isn't Israel. It's Christ. That's why it's an olive tree... olive oil is the substance of "anointing" and "the Anointed One" aka Messiah.

Would you go to your brothers 2nd wedding after he commited adultery?

There was a marriage contract, typically arranged between the groom and the bride's father. The groom brought a party of friends and family to the woman's house. A bride price was paid. Then there was a feast, with music, dancing, etc. You might call it the 'reception' but it was the middle...

Would you go to your brothers 2nd wedding after he commited adultery?

English Bibles sometimes translate as "marriage" where the original language just means "feast." It's not exactly wrong, but it's imprecise. Every wedding is a feast. But not every feast is a wedding.

    The Garden Of Eden

Have you noticed that Ezekiel knows ALL about Adam & Eve? He even writes about the covering cherub guardian Angel that keeps the way back into Eden. Ezekiel knows things about Eden that modern scholars seem to have forgotten

    Amelek and Gaza

Well, that's the appropriate response. Not sure what else to tell you... the wealthy preying on the weak is abhorrent.

    Amelek and Gaza

You're right - I don't know that. I do know something about the Pharmaceutical companies in America. I also understand something about what the New Testament calls "sorcery" - that word is "pharmakeutikos" in the original language. It refers to those who make people sick, for the purpose of...

Would you go to your brothers 2nd wedding after he commited adultery?

I understand your point. Actually, I approve. The chapter has that. The point is valid. It isn't clear that it applies to the case in the opening post. Let's make it personal. I'm divorced. My (ex)wife cheated on me. I hold no guilt over divorcing her. She wanted the divorce. I agreed...

    Amelek and Gaza

False. The pharmaceutical companies are evil.

Would you go to your brothers 2nd wedding after he commited adultery?

I did. I find that actually reading the passages in question puts me ahead of many posters, who don't. This comes back to what I said earlier about the difference between sinning and choosing to live in sin. The man who chooses to live in sin SHOULD be put out. The man who sins and repents...

Would you go to your brothers 2nd wedding after he commited adultery?

It's a one sentence synopsis. I don't wish to give a doctoral thesis on this chapter any more than you want to hear me give one. What is your point? It would be helpful if you just stated it. I'm not much of a mind-reader Right. The situation as I see it: A wife divorced her husband for...

A WORD OF CAUTION ABOUT THE NEW BIBLES

I assumed you would have known. I did not come equipped with sources. I'll just say that The Father of Ecclesiastical History has a bit of a reputation for Revisionist History.

A WORD OF CAUTION ABOUT THE NEW BIBLES

Don't think Eusebius would have agreed. A little forgery is fiiiiine, just as long as it's pious forgery. Right? hmn

It prohibits fornication and especially incest. Do you see something there about divorce? I don't

Would you go to your brothers 2nd wedding after he commited adultery?

You make a lot of assertions, but there's nothing backing them up. What the Bible actually says is different from what you're saying. I think you're just repeating something a pastor said to you once.

Would you go to your brothers 2nd wedding after he commited adultery?

Usually that's the reason not to do it. A couple gets divorced, one of them gets the kids, and usually some government assistance that may or may not be cleverly disguised as a tax refund. If she gets re-married the assistance generally goes away

    Amelek and Gaza

Probably. The Amalekites were always enemies of Israel. They just aren't related to the people in Gaza, so it's a little bonkers to equate the two

A WORD OF CAUTION ABOUT THE NEW BIBLES

The NRSV is quite recent - it came out in 1989. Also of note, is that a separate version of it was made for Catholics: the NRSV-CE. The CE stands for Catholic Edition.

    Amelek and Gaza

Would be nice if he knew his own history. Amalek is a tribe of the Edomites. The Philistines weren't Amalekites, or vice versa. The Philistines controlled what is now Gaza. The Edomites, including Amalek, lived further inland and south. Of course, the modern-day Palestinians aren't...

Would you go to your brothers 2nd wedding after he commited adultery?

We don't need specific permission from the Bible to do most things. I'm perfectly allowed to go drink a Dr. Pepper, or to cook a Beef Wellington, despite the Bible's silence on the matters. I think a better question is whether there's a Biblical prohibition on taking a second wife. I don't...

How so? The marriage was dissolved for reason of unfaithfulness
