THE CHURCH IS NOT THE BRIDE OF CHRIST

Yup, there were myriad things the Apostles didn't understand before receiving the Spirit--they didn't even know Gentiles could be saved, even though Christ said "Go preach to the nations", bc the Jews who went with Peter were all astonished that the Gentiles received the gift of the Spirit, but...

The Roman Catholic Church Infallibility Thread

I understand it is hard to let go of traditions, but the tradition of taking vows before marriage is a tradition of men that flies in the face of God's Word.

    Mary as New Eve

Very little is written about Mary, so I don't know how she could be an example to me. Oh, she received the Word? So I am to receive the Word? Was that something I needed to learn from Mary? I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous.

THE CHURCH IS NOT THE BRIDE OF CHRIST

I really am confused at how people--eg, @Doug, the author of this thread--can fall into such obvious errors. Some errors are subtle, and more understandable, but you have to go OUT OF YOUR WAY to believe some of this nonsense.

    Mary as New Eve

To me, Mary is not a type or figure of anything. I do not look to Mary at all. She was blessed, sure, but we are to look to Christ. I don't expect the Catholics to be honest about this, because they have their tradition, I am just sharing it.

    Mary as New Eve

LOL! Clutch your pearls all you want. You don't have a single substantive thing to say. Your being offended doesn't prove your point. It is EVIDENT that you haven't read the Bible--either that or that you are an outright rebel, take your pick (it's better to be ignorant)--because you REJECT its...

THE CHURCH IS NOT THE BRIDE OF CHRIST

The idea falls apart when we realize Paul corrected Peter's veering from the truth of the Gospel--only one Gospel, and Peter had to submit to it. He wasn't a free agent roaming around preaching his own thing.

THE CHURCH IS NOT THE BRIDE OF CHRIST

    1. The text says Israel will dwell alone and not be numbered with the Gentiles. 2. Therefore, they found fault with both his going to the Gentiles' home, and with eating with them. 3. Peter was told to eat unclean food, and, then, he ate with Gentiles. This is because if the food laws are not...

THE CHURCH IS NOT THE BRIDE OF CHRIST

No, the occasion for having written Romans was that the Jews had been expelled from Rome (so the Christian Jews also had to leave), and, now, they were being permitted to return, but they were finding that the Church had been filled with Gentiles, and they had to have and understanding for how...

THE CHURCH IS NOT THE BRIDE OF CHRIST

Paul says "when we WERE in the flesh" (Ro 7:5). Why does he say, of himself and his audience, "WERE in the flesh" if what he meant was "now we're not in bodies anymore"? Why does he say, of believers, "you are not in the flesh but in the spirit" (Ro 8:9)?

THE CHURCH IS NOT THE BRIDE OF CHRIST

Yeah, God is doing something today, and that thing is that God is saving a small portion (in those days, it was 7000) of Israel. Paul is part of that small portion.

The Roman Catholic Church Infallibility Thread

Remember, there is nothing wrong with God swearing, because God is actually God--it is wrong when we do it BECAUSE we are not God ("you can not make one hair white or black"). When we say that we swear, we are assuming Godhood, making ourselves out to be something much more than we really are...

THE CHURCH IS NOT THE BRIDE OF CHRIST

@Doug Another user observed... Ephesians 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you also were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. There is only one faith, not two--which explains...

    Mary as New Eve

Yes, it is : you already disagree with me, and, to try to prove you're right, you simply emptily assert, "It's a simile"--you address nothing, you simply assert your disagreement as if it is obviously true. You haven't read the Bible on your own, and, now, you even ignored the references I gave...

    Who Are You Looking At?

I think, ultimately, the first error (Adam's) was looking to self, and the Old Covenant (the Law being a species of "the knowledge of good and evil") "rehearses" that error, showing us what we are doing, and the purpose of the New Covenant is to address and correct that error, bringing us to...

    Mary as New Eve

LOL! Buddy... The "begging the question" fallacy, also known as circular reasoning, occurs when an argument's premises assume the truth of the conclusion, rather than providing independent evidence for it. It essentially restates the conclusion in different words, rather than proving it. This...

So, to you, is math (eg, 2+2=4) also just a coincidence? lol

    Mary as New Eve

    1. You're begging the question, not addressing the actual evidence. simile : a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid (e.g., as brave as a lion, crazy like a fox ). 2. Deal with the...

The Roman Catholic Church Infallibility Thread

We don't need to guess what Jesus was after : Jesus says taking vows is the sin of pride, thus "of the evil one", thus He bans them. Rather, you should learn not to add to Scripture, violating God's Word, so as to uphold your vain tradition. You had better not lie against God's Word, because...

The Roman Catholic Church Infallibility Thread

I disagree : If you read the text, Christ was saying it was the sin of pride to make a vow, thus "of the evil one".
