It's really a before/after matter: before the Fall or after? Ephesians 2 explains the situation after the Fall: 'dead in trespasses and sins...fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind...' It's only when the 'But God' comes in by His grace that the person is truly regenerated.

There is indeed a sense in which at the Lord's Supper - with the meaning of the emblem of the bread - the Incarnation is in view, in any case, year round.... (I do like the idea of a Christmas card with a Scripture verse quoted on it to people....)

Luke 22 shows the transition from the Passover to the Lord's Supper; one looked forward, the other looks back to a finished work at the Cross, after the veil of the temple was rent in twain; no going back to the types and shadows once the fullness of revelation in Christ and His finished work...
